The nano-positioner can output two-dimensional motion at a speed of 0.3mm/s within an area of 5mm × 5mm on a float glass plate, whose theoretical resolution can be indefinitely high, which depends on the driving pulses of the piezoelectric actuators. Different pulses applied to the shear piezoelectric actuators can be achieved by a computer controlled amplifier system. The performance of the nano-positioner actuated by different driving pulses is also analyzed and discussed, e.g. the resolution and the speed. Generally, the motion step will be longer when the actuator provides a higher speed at the end of the sticking mode, i.e., it trades off the speed against the resolution. Finally, a prototype system of the nano-positioner has been developed by using a CCD camera as the observing device, which validates the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125182692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the co-rotational framework, the nonlinear dynamic formulation of the pseudo-elastic flexure hinges is presented, which considers the continuous variation of the cross section, the material nonlinearity and the geometrical nonlinearity. In order to simplify the calculation process and guarantee the convergence, a piecewise linear model based on Brinson's constitutive law is developed to establish the constitutive relation of shape memory alloys. Newton-Raphson method combined with the Newmark time integration method is employed to solve the highly nonlinear motion equations. Finally, the dynamic behavior of an elliptical flexure hinge subjected to an impulse load is analyzed. Numerical results compared with finite element analysis by ABAQUS show that the proposed approach can predict the dynamic response of the flexure hinges precisely and the hysteretic energy-dissipation phenomenon is also observed.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125820446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to analyze the influences of average laser power variation on final chemical composition and microstructure of the ablated titanium, respectively. With the average laser power increasing from 4mW to 30mW, it is found that the main ablation products of titanium were both TiO2 and TiC, and the contents of TiO2 and TiC among ablation products continuously rose; meanwhile, the content ratio of TiO2 to TiC kept falling. Besides that, the increase of average laser power intensified the amorphization degree of microstructure of ablated titanium. Finally, it is concluded that the increased laser fluence resulted from average laser power increasing, which intensified the heat accumulation effect on titanium surfaces. Then, the thermal and mechanical damages were deepened and enlarged in the laser ablated zone.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128708317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, an AFAM was used to study the surface, intracellular structure and elasticity mapping of SMCC-7721 cells, and both topographic and acoustic images of the cells were obtained. In the experiment, the SMCC-7721 cells were treated with 4% paraformaldehyde (PFA), and untreated and treated with Thymidine (TdR). The imaging results were compared and analyzed. The quantitative analysis result indicates that the AFAM is a useful tool to measure the surface, intracellular structure and the elasticity property of the cells.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131445945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its desirable amplification effect, a small physical variable can be detected with weak measurements. Spin splitting of light, which stems from the interaction between the spin and orbital angular momentum in optical reflection or refraction at the interface of mediums, is always a weak effect. However, the spin splitting of light can be detected easily with weak measurements. Remarkably, the spin splitting of light is sensitive to the physical parameter variations of system. Using the spin splitting as a probe, the physical parameter can be accurately estimated with weak measurements. Here, we review some of our works on precision metrology with weak measurements using the spin splitting of light as a probe, such as estimation of the magneto-optical constant of a magnetic film, determination of the focused beam waist, and measurement of the polarization state of light.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117035698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present work, we intended to investigate the effect of nano GO sheets on antibiotic-resistant bacteria or “superbugs”, Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae). Wild-type and capsule-deficient K. pneumoniae were used as model bacteria in this study. The difference between the wild-type and capsule-deficient bacteria is that the thick polysaccharide capsular layer surrounded the wild-type bacteria that can protect the bacteria from environmental stresses has been genetically removed in the capsule-deficient bacteria. Cell viability was evaluated using both a colony counting assay and a fluorescence technique. Both methods demonstrated that nano GO sheets had no observable effects on the viability of either the wild-type or the capsule-deficient K. pneumoniae. The results indicate that nano GO sheets cannot be regarded as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial material to kill bacteria.","PeriodicalId":273846,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Manipulation, Manufacturing and Measurement on the Nanoscale (3M-NANO)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127634092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
