An anomalously large thermal hysteresis in the dielectric response was found for the mostly disordered PST ceramic. The degree of the hysteresis decreased with increased ordering. The mostly ordered PST ceramics exhibited a typical thermal hysteresis in dielectric response like the normal ferroelectric that forms macrodomains at the transition temperature. The large dielectric hysteresis found in the mostly disordered PST is ascribed to the microdomain-macrodomain transition, which probably occurs when a critical interaction level is reached between microdomains.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":269368,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] 1990 IEEE 7th International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130675761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The LiTaO/sub 3/-type solid solution in the LiTaO/sub 3/-CaZrO/sub 3/ system presented a diffuse phase transition resulting from chemical inhomogeneities. The pyroelectric coefficients of polarized ceramics were close to 4 nC-cm/sup -2/ K/sup -1/, a value which can be increased up to 6 nC-cm/sup -2/ K/sup -1/ by quick sintering for the calcium and zirconium containing samples.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":269368,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] 1990 IEEE 7th International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115069830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was found that d/sub h/ approaches a very large value of approximately 300 pC/N and then saturates at an electric bias field of approximately 3.5 kV/cm. The voltage coefficient and the sensitivity were also found to be comparable to and larger than, respectively, those in lead zirconate-titanate (PZT) ceramics despite a high dielectric constant in the relaxor material. Unlike the d/sub 33/ and d/sub 31/ piezoelectric coefficients, d/sub h/ did not, under the experimental conditions, depend on electric bias field in a manner predicted by the phenomenological theory.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":269368,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] 1990 IEEE 7th International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122887761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unimorph structure requires slightly larger Ti concentration than the simple disk, to obtain the shape memory effect. This is probably due to the compressive stress generated in the unimorph structure. The dynamic response has also been investigated in the shape memory unimorph. Only an electric field pulse with a short period of 5 ms is necessary to drive the unimorph, which gives advantages in control over conventional piezoelectric actuators. The shape memory unimorph has been applied to a latching relay. The size of the latching relay can be reduced considerably by using the shape memory unimorph, in comparison with the conventional electromagnetic latching relay.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":269368,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] 1990 IEEE 7th International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121233578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
