In this paper it is reported that in the flame of bromine burning in hydrogen about 43 emission bands were found, which are to be attributed to the excited bromine molecules in the flame, and the reaction mechanism of the combustion of bromine and hydrogen is discussed. Experimental: Pure hydrogen was continuously passed through a transparent quartz vessel, 10 cm in length and 3 cm in diameter, into which bromine vapour was sent from the mouth of a quartz tube and the flame blazed at the jet. The colour of the flame was orange yellow. The emission spectrum of the flame is shown in Plate I (exposure, about 1 hour).
