Thus, the general objective is to analyze the importance of the field class as a methodological practice for teaching the contents of school biogeography, highlighting a case study in the Fossil Forest Natural Monument of the Poti River. The specific objectives are i) report on school biogeography highlighting the content and skills provided in the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (Common National Curriculum Base, BNCC), ii) discuss the biogeography teaching in the textbook context, and iii) propose a field class in the Fossil Forest Natural Monument of the Poti River as a methodological tool for teaching school biogeography. The analyses carried out on-site followed a qualitative way assisted by the literature available in articles and specialized books in the area. The paleobiogeographic collection in the Natural Monument presents Permian vegetal fossils that help students to understand the subjects in geography classes. Thus, practical field classes related to the physical geography teaching in the Natural Monument of the Fossil Forest of the Poti River provide a significant teaching-learning process for the students, besides generating a sensitization/awareness about the preservation and conservation of such a conservation unit.","PeriodicalId":263940,"journal":{"name":"International Journal Semiarid","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126959465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It occupies 12% of the national territory and is home to about 28 million people divided between urban (62%) and rural (38%) contexts, being one of the world’s most populated semiarid region. Unfortunately, when it comes to the pedagogic context, the Brazilian semiarid region continues to be underestimated, mostly because its schools have a curriculum structure that is poorly integrated with its real features and the need for its conservation. The disciplines of Science/Biology and Geography are the ones that most address the contents and studies focused on the semiarid region and they need tools that develop motivation for learning. Nowadays, an accessible didactic tool is the photography, considered very useful when it comes to teaching. Given this, we performed a literary review on the use of photography as a pedagogical tool of teaching about the semiarid region, consulting journal portals such as Scielo, Google Scholar and CAPES, in addition to physical material. We found out that photography becomes a very effective pedagogical resource in teaching and learning about the semiarid, being quite accessible and allowing the development of activities of observation and description of various phenomena, even if the individual does not know this particular environment.","PeriodicalId":263940,"journal":{"name":"International Journal Semiarid","volume":"331 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125136123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When dealing with erosion, it is important to emphasize that it is a natural environmental process, but it can be accelerated through human actions. In this sense, the aim of this work is to evaluate the natural susceptibility of soils to laminar erosion in hydrographic basins between the Agreste and Zona da Mata, through the case study of the Canhoto river basin (PE/AL). The methodology adopted used data on soil erodibility and slope to identify areas susceptible to laminar erosion, on a scale of 1:100,000. The results showed that more than 75% of the basin area was distributed between classes I and II, which are in the semi-arid area, presenting weaknesses from the point of view of the generation of erosive processes. There are high percentages of soils with high rates of erodibility and a great variability in the percentage of slope, resulting in areas susceptible to erosion, thus becoming an important object of study, given the need for research on this topic in the region.","PeriodicalId":263940,"journal":{"name":"International Journal Semiarid","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125946921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
