En este sentido, el biocarbón, considerado como un sub-producto derivado del proceso de conversión termoquímica de la biomasa, se posiciona como un tratamiento alternativo gracias a sus propiedades fisicoquímicas, como lo son su gran superficie específica y grupos funcionales. En este trabajo, se presenta el concepto, clasificación y propiedades de los colorantes, así como los efectos adversos que causan estos contaminantes en los ecosistemas acuáticos. Adicionalmente, se exponen los tratamientos usados en la remoción de colorantes del agua residual, haciendo énfasis en el uso del biocarbón como tecnología alternativa. Finalmente, se presenta la relación costo-eficiencia del biocarbón, teniendo en cuenta su capacidad de reusabilidad. Con este trabajo, se abren nuevos horizontes en el uso del biocarbón para el tratamiento de aguas contaminadas, contribuyendo a la economía circular y al tan anhelado desarrollo sostenible.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad. The scope of this research is to analyze the environmental and economic effects of the integration of a gasification system to a biodiesel plant. The environmental impacts are quantified by a Life Cycle Assessment and the economy is assessed based on the Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Investment Recovery Period models and the Levelized cost of electricity. The results demonstrate that a gasification system, using this biomass as a source of electricity generation, is a promising alternative for energy supply, with good economic effect. Estimated efficiencies are: Net Present Value > 0, Internal Rate of Return > 10%/yr and Investment Recovery Period = 2.08 years, representing very good outcomes for this kind of system. Nevertheless, the project exhibits a very low Levelized Cost of Electricity of 0.054 USD/kWh. From the environmental point of view, there is not critical step during the whole life cycle of electricity generation from Jatropha curcas biomass.negative environmental impacts were found for breathing-inorganics and acidification-eutrophication, but both at negligible levels.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad. Rice straw and banana peel (BP) are among the most produced agricultural residues in Manabí, Ecuador. Anaerobic digestion is an ideal alternative for the treatment of these residuals, the purpose of which is to produce methane. The objective of this work is to propose a model for estimating methane yield from anaerobic digestion of organic waste generated from the elemental characterization. The developed dynamic model is based in the consumption of volatile solids (VS) according to first order kinetics. MATLAB® was the software used for the implementation of the model. The statistical criteria for the model implementation were Root Mean Square of Errors (RMSE) and Average Relative Error (ARE). It was possible to represent the anaerobic digestion process of various organic substrates by using the dynamic model based on VS consumption with RMSE values lower than 0.13. Another aspect considered is the estimation of the annual energy generation (48.59 GWh) and fuel savings (3 ~ 7.5 million USD/year) from the results of the model. Likewise, a factor proposal for the evaluation of the residual and the generation of methane with respect to its biodegradability.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad. The oil extraction process required an experimental design DCA of 33 with the application of factors such as sample moisture, water volume and extraction time in three levels (high, medium and low). These factors, evaluated by the oil yield response variable, were analyzed using the statistical software statgraphics plus. For the oil components, a gas chromatograph coupled to a mass detector (GC-MS) was used. Extraction results show significance to the oil yield applied to dehydrated leaves, extraction times and amount of water at medium and high levels. The volatile chemical composition of the sample essential oil revealed the presence of 34 components, highlighting DL-carvone with 36.5%, anethole with 15.3%, germacrene D with 8.8% and limonene with 7.2%; Consequently, it is concluded that these components provide aromatic and antioxidant characteristics for functional fragrances to be used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Due to its biological activity, the essential oil is also recommended for the agricultural sector as a bactericidal and insecticidal inhibitor, with prospects for research and immediate application.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad. Analysis of these metals concentration in Cyperus Alternifolius plant was carried out at first. Subsequently, removal kinetics of contaminants in the wetland were evaluated, obtaining a better fit to the Monod model for both metals. Determination of nickel and total chromium content in the effluent from the National Domestic Household Producer Industry (INPUD “1ro de Mayo”) was also carried out and removal of the employed metals in the wetland was evaluated. The removal efficiency obtained for these metals using standard solutions and the INPUD wastewater was above 98%. Greater retention of metals was obtained in the plant, mainly in roots and leaves evidencing the importance of this component in metal elimination process. The hydrazides (2a-c) were used as starting compounds for the synthesis of a variety of heterocyclic compounds: 3(2H)-pyridazinones (3a-c), N-amino-2(3H)-pyrrolones (7a-c) and 1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-ones (10a-c) via cyclization reactions. Depending on the reaction conditions, the acylation of the hydrazides (2a-c) with benzoyl chloride in toluene afforded the corresponding N`-benzoyl 4-oxobutanhydrazides (5a-b) or 1-benzoyl-1,2-dihydro-3(4H)-pyridazinones (6a-c). The condensation of the hydrazides (2a-c) with various aldehydes gave the corresponding N'-arylidene-4-oxobutanhydrazides (8a-h), which underwent ring closure into the corresponding N-arylidenamino-2(3H)-pyrrolones (9a-d) upon treatment with acetic anhydride.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad. Es por esto, que en la presente investigación se desarrollaron materiales compuestos de hidroxiapatita-zirconia (HA-ZrO2), en donde la zirconia se estabilizó con ytrio y la hidroxiapatita se dopó con plata, cobre y galio, para otorgarle al compósito propiedades biológicas que no presenta la zirconia como tal. Cada componente del material compuesto le confiere diferentes características; como la hidroxiapatita (HA) que le proporciona un comportamiento bioactivo, la ZrO2 estabilizada con ytrio le confiere excelente resistencia; mientras que la Ag, Ga y Cu le proveen propiedades antimicrobianas. Para la obtención de estos sistemas, se sintetizaron los materiales por el método de Pechini y de precipitación química, posteriormente se obtuvieron los compósitos y se probaron en estudios de bioactividad, hemólisis, viabilidad celular por el método de MTT y adhesión de osteoblastos por tinción. Se obtuvieron materiales bioactivos, no hemolíticos, no tóxicos y con adhesión de células al compósito. The effect of combining of air temperatures (40, 55 and 70 °C) and air velocities (1, 2 and 3 m/s) on the drying kinetics of tomato skin were studied. Diffusional and empirical models were fitted to the experimental data. The effect of the drying conditions on the lycopene content was determined from its extraction in moringa oil. Temperature and air velocity combination had a significantly (p > 0.05) influence on the drying kinetic. This combination can promote a reduction on the lycopene content. Drying process was satisfactory described by diffusional and empirical models and their coefficients were reported for the material investigated. La obtención de los extractos con etanol fue asistida por ultrasonido obteniendo rendimientos de hasta 12.08 % en peso; se caracterizaron por espectroscopia de FT-IR (ATR) identificando señales a 3300 cm-1 correspondientes a los estiramientos de O-H del grupo alcohol y/o de la vibración de ácido carboxílico, en 1750 a 1650 cm-1 estiramiento del enlace carbonilo C=O, un doblete a 1400 y 1450 cm-1 de estiramientos de dimetilos cerca de carbonilos y la torsión C-H y bandas en valores de 700 cm-1 de vibraciones de torsión del enlace C-OH; en HPLC se identificaron familias de dímeros de ácido metoxicinámico, dímeros de ácido hidroxibenzóico, flavonas, metoxiflavonas y antocianinas; se hicieron pruebas de solubilidad y antibacterianas, con inhibición de S. aureus. Los extractos incorporados a la tela no tejida de nylon 6 se caracterizaron por FT-IR (ATR) mostrando señales correspondientes a los grupos funcionales de metabolitos secundarios del romero y a la estructura del nylon 6; sus termogramas muestran pérdidas del 5 % en peso a temperaturas de 250 a 400 °C.","PeriodicalId":263806,"journal":{"name":"Afinidad.
