Due to coupling forces and structural vibrations, the dynamic performance of direct-driven machines is still restricted. Therefore, we analysed the effect of kinetic coupling in typical machine tool applications and derived a simplified dynamic model for predicting acceleration-dependent disturbance forces. Special consideration is given to the additional damping of elastic structural components. Their effect on the feedback-controlled system is described by a simplified but suitable dynamic model that allows state observation and effective parameter identification for all relevant cases of structural flexibility. This leads to an extension of standard servo drives by a robust state space controller. Standard numerical control systems for machine tools do not support model based control. Therefore special functions on a commercial numerical control system have been developed to compensate dynamic coupling forces and to damp dominating structural modes. The proposed technique is based on a simple startup test using a standard V/F inverter. The recorded startup currents are compared to that obtained by simulation of an induction motor model. A Modified PSO optimization is used to find out the best model parameter that minimizes the sum square error between the measured and the simulated currents. The performance of the modified PSO is compared with other optimization methods including line search, conventional PSO and genetic algorithms. The reliability of such systems is dependant on trustable embedded controllers. The design of such embedded controllers is moving towards reliability-centric hardware/software co-design frameworks. This paper proposes a novel approach to the development of such embedded controllers, by proposing a special embedded monitoring scheme. An experimental evaluation framework is described that supports runtime verification of a software application executing in an embedded system, where the processor is a Java Optimised Processor (JOP) soft processor, instantiated in the fabric of an FPGA (field programmable gate array). The experimental system employs the Java-MaC (Java Monitoring and Checking) runtime verification method, arranged to indirectly monitor the execution behaviour of the application software in its native environment. A case study example is described, which demonstrates the verification of a condition for a software model of a railroad crossing system. The example shows that such a runtime verification scheme can be used effectively as a software testing approach for such a specialised embedded controller. In this strategy it is sufficient to measure the source voltage and the load currents. Analyses of the balanced nonlinear and unbalanced linear load cases are performed. Simulations are performed for these cases as well as for a nonlinear load drawing quasi-square-wave currents from the mains. Stability analysis is also performed to determine the stability region of the proportional-integral controller gains used in the voltage control loop. Simulation studies show that the proposed strategy is quite effective in eliminating harmonics, compensating for reactive power and also balancing unbalanced loads. Applied to the PMSM, this technique conducts to a separation of the variables into disjoined subsets or two separated models: one having a slow dynamics, and the other a fast dynamics. To ensure certain robustness to the decoupled control system based on this technique, the control speed and the Id current are carried out by neuro-fuzzy regulators (ANFIS). Each stage is actuated by piezoactuator and the motion is sensed by laser displacement sensors. The simplified model of the stage was derived and the finite element model was developed to analyze the motion of the stage. Then the QFT algorithm was proposed to design robust controllers for the stage. It was found that the rise time of the stage is about 0.1 sec for a 10 um input. In order to be compatible with maintaining a high stability of the whole swarm and advancing to the goal, virtual forces; local forces and an advancing force which are produced by the algorithm, are applied to multiple autonomous mobile robots. Local forces such as an attraction and a repulsion, are applied to each robot for increasing the stability of the local swarm. Overlapping each local swarm partially increases the stability of the whole swarm. The advancing force is applied to each robot for advancing to the goal while maintaining the stability of the local swarm. Since obstacles which prevent the robot advancing are considered as a disturbance from the viewpoint of the stability of the whole swarm, an effectiveness of the algorithm in obstacle space is evaluated using a dynamics simulation. The control equations are derived by making use of Lyapunovpsilas direct method. It is shown analytically that a globally stable operation is possible for the closed-loop system. The amplitude of the dc current is adjusted by employing a proportional-integral regulator in the output voltage control loop. The correct operation of the proposed strategy is verified through simulations. The full MPU consists of a Permanent Magnet (PM) brushless motor, a three-phase MOSFET inverter with digital control and a gear pump for the hydraulic circuit. The MPU designed in this project is characterized by low voltage supply and high hydraulic output power, so that the choice of power electronic components have been particularly challenging, mainly because of conflicting requirements in terms of current rating and total cost.
