This paper describes also the charging process of lead- acid batteries integrating the MPPT algorithm making an charging autonomous system that can be used to feed any autonomous application. The photovoltaic system exhibits a non-linear i-v characteristic and its maximum power point varies with solar insolation and temperature. To control the maximum transfer power from a PV panel the Perturbation and Observation (P&O) MPPT algorithm is executed by a simple microcontroller ATMEL ATTINY861V using the PV voltage and current information and controlling the duty cycle of a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal applied in to a DC/DC converter. The schematic and design of the single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is presented. This DC/DC converter is chosen because the input voltage can be higher or lower than the output voltage witch presents obvious design advantages. With the P&O MPPT algorithm implemented and executed by the microcontroller, the different charging stages of a lead-acid battery are described, showed and executed Finally, experimental results of the performance of the designed P&O MPPT algorithm are presented and compared with the results achieved with the direct connection of the PV panel to the battery.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122954177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control scheme is based on the droop method, and it uses some estimated variables from the grid such as the voltage and the frequency, and the magnitude and angle of the grid impedance. Hence, the inverter is able to inject independently active and reactive power to the grid. The controller provides a proper dynamics decoupled from the grid impedance. Simulation results are provided in order to show the feasibility of the control proposed.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122489447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This novel technology is implemented within auxiliary power distribution systems used to deliver 50 Hz, 60 Hz or 400 Hz three-phase, four-wire power to remote locations from a variable DC power supply (engine, generator, battery bank). The regulation of the output voltage waveform during operation of each individual converter is ensured with a special algorithm. Blanking time, zero-current clamping, and the cross-coupling inductive terms are compensated from the instantaneous phase current. This new algorithm allows multiple identical units to work on the same three-phase AC bus in a parallel manner. The parallel operation includes a start-up and synchronization algorithm able to provide hot-swap operation. The conventional droop coefficient method is herein transformed into a non-linear controller able to satisfy the requirements of isochronous frequency operation. Such requirement is imposed by operation of military or medical equipments based on a constant grid frequency.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114454287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implemented controller is based on Actel fusion field programmable gate array (FPGA). The objective of this work is to evaluate the ability of the proposed SoC solution to ensure all the required performances in such applications, especially in terms of integration capacity and time/area performances. To this purpose, a current control algorithm for a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) has been implemented. This machine is associated with a resolver position sensor. In addition to the current control closed-loop, all the necessary motor control tasks are implemented in the same SoC fusion device. The analog to digital conversion is ensured by the integrated analog to digital converter (ADC) avoiding the use of external converters. The resolver processing unit (RPU), which computes the rotor position and speed from the resolver signals, is implemented in the FPGA matrix, avoiding the use of external resolver to digital converter (RDC). The sine patterns used for the Park transformation are stored in the integrated flash memory blocks.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129611188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the standard fifth-order model of the three-phase induction motor in a stationary two axes reference frame, the flux ldquoassumed inherent sensorrdquo is constructed and its left-invertible is validated. The artificial neural network (ANN) left-inversion flux estimator is composed of two relatively independent parts - a static ANN used to approximate the complex nonlinear function and several differentiators used to represent its dynamic behaviors, so that the ANN left-inversion is a special kind of dynamic ANN in essence. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested through simulation and experiment, proving good behavior in both transient and steady-state operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128607763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel calibration methodology is detailed, establishing a discrete relation between 3D points and the corresponding pixels. The 3D reconstruction adopted is an adaptation of the classic volumetric scene reconstruction technique. Complete voxels are projected onto the image planes and consistency measurements are computed on pixel surfaces. To ensure fast processings, 3D/2D matchings are processed offline and results are stored in Look-Up Tables (LUT). Calibration results are given and 3D reconstruction algorithms are validated on synthetic images. Some results obtained for real scenes are provided.","PeriodicalId":262939,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128690057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
