In particular, Hiromi wants to know more about her own identity as a descendant of Japanese-American immigrants. What makes Hiromi unique is that she was born and raised when her parents immigrated to the United States of America, so despite being of immigrant descent, she has been automatically in the American environment since childhood. Hiromi's first problems involved the process by which immigrant children making the transition, making the connection, and becoming American. The writer uses the identity theory of (FU, Lamme, & Lowery, 2004); (Serpe & Stets, 2016), starting that the second problems are internal issues such as thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and external issues are social problems. The objectives of the study to examine this problem is to describe the process of identity that Hiromi experienced so that she become American and to explain how Hiromi solved the identity problem. The method use in this research is descriptive qualitative and uses a mimetic approach. The source of the data is Hiromi's picture book, and the data use the text and pictures in the picture book. As a result, it is revealed that Hiromi has a dual identity as a Japanese American girl. Hiromi is physically of Japanese descent but socially American, Hiromi eventually becomes comfortable and prefers being American. In this study, quantitative methodology was employed. In a quasi-experiment, two classes were compared as the experimental and control classes consisted of two groups of samples. The findings of this investigation revealed that the experimental class had an average post-test score of 79.72 whereas the control class had an average post-test score of 64.69. The experimental class had a post-test average score of 48.47, while the control class received a score of 16.53, demonstrating a clear distinction between the two classes. The two classes that were taught in different ways have a big difference, although the approach that used YouTube videos from \"GIA Academy\" to improve students' writing skills worked well enough. Jessie Ware is an English singer, songwriter, and podcaster. The theories are used to find sentence patterns refer to transformational generative grammar (TGG) theory by Noam Chomsky, the theory of phrase structure from Goodman, and the tree diagram theory by Bornstein. The research method used is the descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this study is Jessie Ware’s song and to collect the data, the writer chooses “Say You Love Me” The result shows that there are 6 syntactical structures that are dominant in 18 lines, and there are 4 syntactical structures composed of different pattern constructions found in 5 lines in Jessie Ware’s song lyrics “Say You Love Me”. Data as follows. There are 6 categories of dominant syntactical structures which used in the three songs of Jessie Ware’s song lyrics namely (1) S ⇨ NP + VP in 5 lines, (2) S ⇨ VP + NP in 4 lines, (3) S ⇨ Conj + NP +VP in 4 lines, (4) S ⇨ Conj +VP + NP in 2 lines, (5) S ⇨ S + Conj + S in 2 lines, and (6) S ⇨ VP + Conj + NP in 1 line. There are 5 other syntactical structure categories also founded in these songs, namely (7) S ⇨ Conj +Adj P + VP in 1 line, (8) S ⇨ Conj + adj P + NP + VP in 1 line, (9) S ⇨ Adj P + NP + PP in 1 line, (10) S ⇨ Adv P + VP + NP in 2 lines. Also, the writer identified the following syntactical structure as having the highest frequency in Jessie Ware's song lyrics “Say You Love Me” from the result above (1) S ⇨ NP + VP in 5 lines, (2) S ⇨ VP + NP in 4 lines. (3) S ⇨ Conj + NP +VP in 4 lines. On the other hand, the less common syntactical structures are (4) S ⇨ Conj +VP + NP in 2 lines, (5) S ⇨ S + Conj + S in 2 lines, and (6) S ⇨ VP + Conj + NP in 1 line. (7) S ⇨ Conj +Adj P +VP in 1 line, (8) S ⇨ Conj + Adj P + NP +VP in 1 lne, (9) S ⇨ Adj P + NP +PP in 1 line, (10) S ⇨ Adv P + VP +NP in 2 lines. From the result above, the writer suggests that this research could be continued by future writer or researcher and that it might be utilized as a resource for learning about syntax in the hopes that it will be interested to the reader. It helps students improve their critical thinking skills and reading skills. The ability to read is needed in student learning today. By reading, students get a lot of information. Not only to retrieve information but also to learn grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Therefore, a method is needed to improve student’s reading skills, some of which are often used, such as the SQ3R method and critical reading. This study aims to determine the role of the SQ3R method and critical reading in improving students' reading skills. This study uses a qualitative method in the form of interviews conducted virtually through a communication application (WhatsApp) with students at an Indonesian higher education. The results of this study show that the SQ3R reading method is helpful for students in improving their reading skills and critical thinking.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"329 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135776218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this thesis, the writers focuse more on the discussion of presuppositions in pragmatic studies, where presuppositions are everything that is in one's mind about everything that exists in this world. Presuppositions are needed to understand the meaning of a conversation between the speaker and the listener so that there is no misunderstanding in communication. In this research the writers use a descriptive research method, because all data comes from film script. Presuppositions in Encanto movie taken from the dialogues of the characters in the movie and analyzed based on the theories by Yule (1996) and classifying them into various types of presuppositions. The result of this study shows that there are many variation of presupposition contained in this move script. There are six presuppositions, specifically 5 existential, 14 factive, 1 non-factive, 3 lexical, 23 structural, and 5 counterfactual.
