However, not all nurses are able to communicate in English well. Considering the gap between the needs of English for nurses and the problems they faced in learning English itself, a course designed specifically based on the nurses needs of English in their daily work is required. Moreover, because the purpose of the course is being able to communicate in English, the learning method must be more practical rather than theory. Flipped learning is one of the learning methods that facilitates students-centered learning. This research was descriptive qualitative research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of flipped learning implementation in English for Nursing course from the students’ perspective. One of the key factors in determining the success of a teaching method is the students’ engagement so that the students’ perspective toward the teaching method applied needs to be considered. Based on the result of questionnaire and interview, most of the students gave positive responses toward the components of learning such as the materials, the learning activities, the assignment, the learning media, their engagement, and their motivation in learning. Thus, it can be concluded that from the students’ perspective flipped learning is effective to be applied in English for Nursing course.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130159201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adhyanggono","doi":"10.56444/lime.v1i2.1870","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.56444/lime.v1i2.1870","url":null,"abstract":"In the first decade following reformasi , three main factors fostered the revival and re-signification of documentary film in Indonesia. First, there was resistance to the New Order’s repressive paradigm of censorship which was still imposed, particularly on issues such as sexuality, religion, and ethnicity. Second, there arose wider freedom for individuals to express their creativity due to the zeitgeist. Third, there was a coherence between the spirit of ‘make-your-own-film’ and the increasing popularity of the digital camera to produce independent films. Ayu Utami’s Jamu (2002) provides a subtle and yet excellent example of a documentary film from this period. It is a documentary that might have never had the opportunity to be made in the New Order regime. The film, set in Jakarta, represents the power of jamu - traditional herbal medicine - which pertains to sexuality and its myth. Using an unconventional expository mode, this film explores jamu as a socio-cultural artifact that forces issues relating to power and sexuality to be brought out into the open. I contend that the representation and symbolism of power and sexuality in the film is predicated on challenging the prevailing view that Indonesia is a moralized society as once constructed by the New Order regime. Therefore, the effect of Jamu can be perceived as twofold: a celebration of freedom of expression and the creative resistance to a hegemonic view of sexuality. My analysis is designed from a semiotic and cultural approach, concerning Roland Barthes’ photographic paradox, Michel Foucault’s power/knowledge, Jeffrey Weeks’s inclusive sexuality, as well as Robert Segal’s and Laurie Honko’s concepts of myth. of the human mind, a product of social, cultural, and historical forces, then such an invention, I argue, also converges myth since myth is also a social, cultural, and historical abstract in the guise of a narrative belief. Weeks (2010) further asserts that the subjective and fictional qualities of sexuality are rendered by the fact that throughout human history, the notion of sexuality did not exist, and sometime in the future may not exist again. This underlines the idea that sexuality is invented and narrated. Again this coalesces myth in that narration is the very medium where myth is perpetuated due to its regenerative capacity (Eliade, 1987), and is most frequently embraced as part of the ritual (Honko, 1984). As an inclusive notion, sexuality covers disparate areas such as “marriage and the family, illegitimacy and birth control, prostitution and homosexuality, changing patterns of moral, legal and medical regulation, rape and sexual violence, sexual identities, and sexual communities, and oppositional cultures, reproduction, erotic activities and fantasy, intimacy and warmth, love and pleasure, sin and danger as well as violence and disease” (Anna et al., 2011: p. 3 ). In addition to the subjective and narrative characteristics that both sexuality and myth share, this inc","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124066354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Linguist who work in these branches of linguistics are interested in the ways in which words acquire meaning and the processes by which native users of a language are able to give stable interpretations to word strings. Problems of meaning are arguably among the most significant which addressers and addressees experience in communicating with the other. This is principally because of two things: first, the range of possible meanings of which many words are capable; and second, the considerable contextual features which influence how strings are interpreted. We are all aware, in everyday communication, just how much factors such as intonation, word stress, and situational context can affect the interpretation of utterances. In the other hand, phonology is defined about the speech on sound including intonation and stress. This paper describes that semantic and phonology have the correlation in analyzing the language communication.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126235394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This issue becomes very interesting to be analyzed because the readers will get more understanding on how immigrant children face several cultural differences in America, especially on how they develop their identity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the identity development of immigrant children in America as portrayed in Yoon character in the picture books by Helen Recorvits. As a Korean girl who moves to America, Yoon has to adapt and adjust with new different environment. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative based on the library research. This paper uses sociological approach to analyze the story of Yoon in the picture books. During childhood, children engage in activities to build friendship, have fun, and above all to develop particular life qualities. Though children’s folklore did not quite attract folklorist’s interest in the early development of folklore studies, now, it has become an attracting arena of interests for many social scientists. This research attempts to give a descriptive analysis of the children’s folklore, i.e. games, in eastern Sumba, Indonesia. The invasive presence of technology certainly affects the existence of “old-time” children’s folklore. Children of the present are heavily exposed to “modern games” that overpower the vitality of the traditional games. Some people see this shift as something inevitable, and the only way to respond to this situation is by accepting this “game revolution.” However, some oldtime game supporters attempt to revitalize the old-time children folklore by holding events where children’s traditional games are performed. The latter believe that maintaining children folklore is of importance because it is a matter of identity, and above all, children’s modern games cannot replace the social values offered by the traditional ones. This present article, written based on the data from interviews and discussions on social media, aims to list some traditional games in eastern Sumba. Like any other children in other parts of the world, Sumbanese children are also friendly with modern games. Yet, some still perform the “old time” games. In addition, this article also gives some description of each game and the values the participants might learn from the children’s folklore.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116757450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
