The ability to write is acquired through a learning process not inherited. In college, the ability to write is very important for students, especially for compiling scientific works such as papers, theses, theses, dissertations, and reports. Problems faced by novice writers. These include: (1) fear of starting, (2) not knowing when to start, (3) organizing, and (4) language. Determining the initial attitude for novice writers will determine success or failure in writing. Regarding the process approach, writing activities are divided into three stages, namely: pre-writing stage, writing stage, and post-writing stage.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114975497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is often used to help songwriters create beautiful songs by conveying unusual words in a song's lyrics. It also gives the right role to the reader or listener. Therefore, the use of figurative language in a work will make the reader or listener excited. The use of figurative language can also make listeners have a broad imagination and understand the meanings available through figurative language in a song explicitly. When people listen to music through its lyrics, language plays an important role in conveying the meaning of the song. Moana is a Disney film that also uses many songs as the background. Therefore, this study aims to determine the types of figures of speech and the meaning of song lyrics in the Moana movie. The researcher analyzed the types of figurative language and the meanings contained in the song's lyrics. The aim of this paper is two-fold: (1) to suggest use of listening-first approach towards successful listening comprehension teaching; and (2) to propose a challenge of teaching listening strategies to help students acquire good competence in listening comprehension. It cites significant research findings in second language acquisition and reviews the concept of listening comprehension and listening strategies and their relationship language teaching and learning. Research suggests that listening is prerequisite to other language skills, speaking, reading, and writing, and listening should be the primary skill to be acquired in learning a new language. There are major reasons for applying the listening-first approach. Listening comprehension sets a foundation for the future acquisition of speaking. Emphasis on aural comprehension training, and relaxation of the requirement for oral production in the initial phase of instruction, fosters development of linguistic competence, and produces better results than those obtained through intensive oral practice. Additionally, research also suggest that listening strategy is something teachable, so that it can be taught students in such a way that they will have opportunities to choose which suits their learning capability.","PeriodicalId":258385,"journal":{"name":"LINGUAMEDIA Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133406562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
