Because sensor nodes operate with limited power based on a battery which cannot be easily replaced, it is very important to reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node. One of the primary mechanisms for achieving low energy operation in energy-constrained wireless sensor networks is the duty cycle operation, but this operation exhibits several disadvantages. In this paper, we propose an unsynchronized duty cycle control scheme. The scheme achieves energy efficiency and congestion avoidance by duty cycle control in sensor-based home automation networks.","PeriodicalId":256368,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116174474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a dynamic channel reservation scheme for higher priority calls that does not reduce the channel utilization. The number of reserved channels for each traffic class is calculated using real time observation of the call arrival rates of each traffic classes. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme is able to reduce the call blocking probability of the higher priority user within a reasonable range without sacrificing channel utilization.","PeriodicalId":256368,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122086821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solid-state disks (SSDs), based on NAND flash technology, have emerged as an alternative to magnetic disks. There is a clear motivation to use SSDs to do DVR, but there are severe reliability issues that must be addressed in order to make this possible. This outlines the issues associated with NAND-flash-based DVR and derives expressions for the usable lifetime of SSD-based DVR in a handheld / mobile application.","PeriodicalId":256368,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124886959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the most practical mobile robots that bring heavy burden have variant weight parameters: robot's weight and center of gravity. This paper suggests the design of adaptive PD controller, which estimates and adapts the weight parameters of the robots, for a home service mobile robot that brings varying heavy burden. Using the suggested adaptive PD controller, the motion of mobile robots can be independent of the weight parameters, and the operational performance is confirmed by the simulations of target tracking.","PeriodicalId":256368,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128598176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach involves the division of encoding process spatially, between four similar processors with distributed memory system, in such a way that each frame of the input video sequence is divided into four separate sections, each individually processed by a processor. The results thus produced were compared with those of the Sequential Encoder for a number of different input bitstreams and a speedup in the range of 3 to 3.5 with four processors was successfully obtained.","PeriodicalId":256368,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128696386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
