In this paper, we propose a system architecture that aims at addressing both issues. The system is composed of multiple intelligent nodes that acquire, process, and archive data/video at a remote site and then automatically generate either alerts or summary reports that are sent to a station at the central operations office of the customer. The intelligent nodes are capable of analyzing multiple types of input data, including video, and take actions ranging from communicating alerts back to the human operator to automatic shutdown of a complete facility. These intelligent nodes serve as the middleware devices in this distributed architecture. In this paper we outline a novel hybrid hardware architecture which enables a range of image processing primitives to be directly generated from a video frame as it passes through the standard imaging pipeline. These primitives can be either efficiently stored with a sequence of video frames, or depending on the computational capabilities of the device they may be recombined with the original video frame data, concurrently with the acquisition of the following video frame, to implement a range of image processing functions prior to MPEG video data compression. This paper presents a computational ca mera approach to near-lossless, high-quality digital zooming using a fisheye lens. Conventional digital zooming systems employed in compact consumer's imaging devices result in severe distortions in output images due to the limited amount of information. In spite of such lim ited quality, the digital z ooming function is e quipped in many inexpensive cameras because of its desirable properties, such as compactness, low power consumption, and low cost. In order to overcome the limited quality of the conventional digital zooming system, we use a fisheye lens with appropriate digital image processing algorithms. For realization of the proposed computational camera-based digital zooming, we fir stge nerate input test images using a commercial optical simulator. We then calibrate the fisheye lens using a special rectangular grid patterns. Finally, we remove the barrel distortion in the output of the fisheye lens, and crop an appropriate size of rectangular region in the center. The media access control (MAC)/ physical layer (PHY) part of the developed chip is based on the WiMedia standard. ARM9 is adopted for high speed data transaction and USB 2.0 and SDIO are supported for host interface. The modem part occupies about half of the whole chip area, and is developed by using most of standard cells. 90nm CMOS technology is used and the chip size is about 5mm × 5mm. For displaying images on small-sized display panels of mobile devices, content-aware image retargeting has attracted a lot of interest due to its small quality loss of important contents in the images. In this paper, we present a novel content-aware 3D image retargeting method. In the proposed method, the depth information of the 3D image is exploited to impose the perceptual importance on the contents in the scene. With the development of flash-memory based solid state storage for computers, the consumer computer storage hierarchy is becoming more complex. Solid state storage and hard disk drives are already being combined in data centers to provide significant performance improvements at a reasonable cost. Computer storage including some flash memory and HDDs can boost overall system performance while still providing low cost mass storage. Recently there have been several product introductions for combining solid state storage with hard disk drives in consumer computer applications. A user who manipulates and plays with these ‘objects’ wants to haptically ‘feel’ the presence of a static object or the motions of dynamic objects. To satisfy the demand, we previously proposed a vibrotactile rendering method based on the vibrotactile traveling wave. Even though the proposed method can haptically simulate the dynamic behavior of a target object, it is not easy to delicately generate a traveling vibrotactile wave. The reason is that the sampling rate of the haptic loop in the system determines the performance of the traveling vibrotactile wave. Therefore, this paper proposes a haptic processor which can control multiple motors and create a traveling vibrotactile wave for mobile devices.
