Because it is frequently defected, we chose the bearing element to diagnose. Applying the pattern recognition principle, we used the bearing vibration signals which represent this element in its different states (normal, defected and severely defected) to extract their power spectral density parameters and classify them using the Feed Forward Neural Networks. The antenna is microstrip line-fed, and is printed on a 40 mm × 35 mm × 1.6 mm FR4-Epoxy substrate over a partial ground plane. The incorporation of each OLR contributes a resonance that depends on the OLR's design frequency and electrical length. Ansoft HFSS, an FEM-based solver, is used to design and simulate the proposed antenna. A prototype is fabricated and experimentally tested, where a credible analogy between simulated and measured results is witnessed. The radiation patterns are found to be omni-directional with acceptable gain values at the frequencies of interest. The antenna is low-cost, easy to fabricate, and is suitable for WLAN and RFID applications.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115818243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design, implementation, and experimental results of 4 W wideband Si-LDMOS PA are presented. A method based on source/load--pull characterization has been used to extract optimum source and load impedances over the desired bandwidth. Following this, a systematic approach to design wideband matching network is suggested. In the frequency band 1.7-2.7 GHz, 3.4 - 4.0 W output power and 25 % drain efficiency were achieved. The 3rd-order intermodulation distortion (IMD3) performance of the designed PA is evaluated by providing a two-tone signal to the amplifier. At two-tone output power of 1 W, IMD3 of around -30 dBc was measured over the design band.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"388 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115913091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work explores design and analysis of Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) based in p-q instantaneous theory and using hysteresis current band to obtain the gating signals for five-level diode clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI). The technique used is capable of reducing the Total harmonic distortion drawn by the non-linear load, compensate the reactive power and correct the power factor, therefore, the power quality problem of a distribution system is reduced especially harmonic problems. The simulation results of the systems have been carried out with MATLAB. Also, the PI controller is employed to reduce the ripple voltage of the dc capacitor of the diode clamped inverter. It allows more autonomous vehicles and it can alert the driver to possible hazards and changes in the road. In this paper we focus on the recognition of a wide set of triangular traffic signs using a novel algorithm, the Number of Peaks. Once a traffic sign is detected, three horizontal lines (T, H, B) and three vertical lines (R, V, L) across the image are used to recognize the sign. The number of crossings from a black pixel to a white pixel (peak) on each line is calculated. A simple and fast decision-tree-like search algorithm uses the number of peaks to differentiate between the triangular road signs. A 100% correct detection rate is achievable even in a fairly noisy environment.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122901934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes a mobile application built on a distributed architecture that allows tourists to obtain additional information about location names and menu entries in Arabic language. By simply taking a photo, translation and additional information are displayed to users in their preferred language. While several mobile applications exist to translate the texts into photos, the present application offers the advantage of translating both handwritten and printed texts. The work was focused on two important aspects: the recognition system and the mobile application. The major challenge was to build a recognition system able to recognize handwritten or printed texts of various writing styles or fonts. Therefore, we propose an original approach consisting of recognizing handwritten and printed words using the Balamand-ENST handwriting recognition system, trained on handwritten texts. Experiments conducted on a collected database have shown that the recognition system trained on handwritten text provides excellent performance when used in recognizing printed text. This recognition system and its performance in both modalities are briefly described in this paper. In addition, a full description on how the mobile application was designed and its functionality is presented.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125962296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method for multiplexing Left and Right images in stereoscopic images requires double quantity of information and more bandwidth: with Right (Q amount of information) and Left (Q amount of information), 3D image will require 2*Q amount of information. Our objective is to reduce this amount of information, and send the 3D image over one communication channel instead of two which will save bandwidth. In this paper, we tried different methods for reducing the amount of information from reducing the size of the right image, to compressing one image but they did not give 100% accuracy, and resulted in blurred images. Our proposed solution is to encode Right image based on the Left. Hence, the amount of information will become Q * (1 + α) instead of 2*Q, with α very small. This encoding will be done using one of the disparity methods in order to prepare the image to be sent over one channel using one of the watermarking techniques.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131197485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
