Keeping in mind the hardware limitations of sensors, this work focuses on complementary signal processing techniques (temporal, spatial correlation and self organizing map) in order to cover several types of data faults, reduce the misdetection rate and also isolate faults when possible by specifying the defaulting sensors. The methods applied to a real database show that 31.6% of data are faulty by applying SOM3D in conjunction with the spatial correlation. The combination of the above technique in addition to the temporal correlation reduces the misdetection by increasing the detection percentage by 17.6%. SOM3D model also helped identifying the least trustful sensors among the network sensors, this can be helpful when reconciling errors.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115407141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Originally designed for RADAR and SONAR image denoising, the Kuan filter can be adapted for other applications by emulating its parameters. However, these parameters need to be calibrated for each image by applying the filter several times with the parameters modified upon each filter run, until the desired quality is reached. In this paper, we propose a novel technique for automatically estimating the optimal filter parameter value, which results in near-optimal performance, where the PSNR loss does not exceed 0.1 dB most of the time, compared to the best possible filter output, and yielding a significant gain with respect to the basic filter used with the default parameters.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124205982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A PSOC microcontroller CY8C27643 manufactured by Cypress was chosen as a test vehicle. Fault injection sessions were performed using the so-called (Code Emulated Upset) approach in two different HW/SW environments. Obtained results put in evidence the potentially critical consequences of some of the faults occurring in the digital blocks when a matrix multiplication benchmark is being executed.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122393503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such fluctuations contain key information relating to sympathetic and parasympathetic activity within the cardiovascular control system. This employs ECG complexes to determine the R-wave occurrences and IBI interval lengths. It has been shown that the variations in the interbeat interval time series show key frequency-specific properties. This work demonstrates high precision algorithms (Matlab and MikroC algorithms) and a state of the art “interpolation process”, to accurately detect R-points and translate them into uniformly sampled signals. Power Spectrum analysis of HRV signals has shown distinct differences between MI patients versus normal subjects. This provides the opportunity to quantify ANS imbalances, leading to distinct classification of Myocardial infracted patients from normal subjects. For real time implementation, a dsPIC microcontroller was programmed using the “MikroC” software.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121431936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So, to ensure good performance in Grid, scalable fault tolerance should be taken into account. Research in fault tolerant MPI has led to the development of several fault tolerant MPI environments. The most popular approach is with coordinated checkpointing. Traditional coordinated checkpoint suffers from high storage and communication overhead because all processes must participate in the checkpointing at a time; also they all must roll back to the latest consistent global checkpoint even those processes that didn't fail. So in this paper, we propose a mailbox-based non blocking minimum-process coordinated checkpoint protocol (MNMCCP) for hierarchical Grid in which processes on different processors communicate indirectly by sending messages over the network through mailbox-based technique at a shared node. In this protocol, only the processes that communicated since last committed checkpoint will participate in the checkpoint at a time resulting in a reduction in stable storage access and enhanced performance. Our proposed protocol also exploits the mailbox of each process as an events logger since it logs the messages sent to the process in strict FIFO order. This combination of our coordinated protocol with message logging offers several additional advantages including limited computation lost, simplified recovery procedure and bounded recovery time because the effects of a failure are confined only to the processes that fail. From the other hand, using the proposed mailboxes technique ensures the reliable delivery of messages and prevents messages sent to the migrating or faulty process form losing and retransmitting. They will be kept in its associated mailbox, and the process will get them from the mailbox after restarting on the new resource. All of these make our protocol most suitable for highly dynamic environment where processes frequently migrate from one node to another thereby ensures the job to be executed within its deadline making such environment trust worthy.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127166865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently a faster, tougher, and more efficient replacement of pure silicon has been introduced; it is the Silicon Carbide (SiC). Several SiC devices are being developed. These devices include Junction Barrier Schottky (JBS) and Schottky Barrier Diodes (SBD), Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET) and Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor-Field-Effect-Transistor (MOSFET), Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT). Each one of these devices has different characteristics, structure and properties which make them suitable for many power switching applications. Moreover, car thefts and parking lots difficulties raise the need for a system that solves these problems and facilitates the daily activities. The proposed solution is the Radio Frequency Car Identity (RF Car ID) system. This system reduces the traffic jam caused by routine license and registration bottlenecks at checkpoints, decreases the risk and severity of accidents, lessens car thefts, and limits access to parking lots and special roads. The RF Car ID system includes the creation of a unique ID for every vehicle using microcontrollers (PIC16F877A), encoding this ID via (MC 145026) encoder, and then transmitting it, wirelessly, at a frequency of 433 MHz. On the other hand, an RF receiver, receives the ID, decodes it using (MC145026) decoder, and then another microcontroller compares this ID with a pre-installed database; the corresponding data is then displayed using a C# program on a personal computer. The RF Car ID developed in this study is a low-cost solution that has a simple architecture and efficient design. Furthermore, the RF Car ID system can be developed to integrate towers that transmit commercial advertisements to cars, in addition to car-to-car communication as social networks, and proximity alert systems.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"2115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116915401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this part, the results of the test bench are shown. Some uncertainties, related mainly to the parametric effects, as the components tolerance, are also presented in order to study the stability and the robustness of the system toward these variations. The results show that this fractional order system behavior is almost unchanged even when introducing these variations whereas the integer order system is affected by these uncertainties. As for the robustness, the fractional order system is robust but the integer order system does not present any robustness when varying the unit gain frequency.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126931735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Manual measurement of micro-expressions is hard labor, time consuming, and inaccurate. This paper presents the Design and Development of a Lie Detection System using Facial Micro-Expressions. It is an automated vision system designed and implemented using LabVIEW. An Embedded Vision System (EVS) is used to capture the subject's interview. Then, a LabVIEW program converts the video into series of frames and processes the frames, each at a time, in four consecutive stages. The first two stages deal with color conversion and filtering. The third stage applies geometric-based dynamic templates on each frame to specify key features of the facial structure. The fourth stage extracts the needed measurements in order to detect facial micro-expressions to determine whether the subject is lying or not. Testing results show that this system can be used for interpreting eight facial expressions: happiness, sadness, joy, anger, fear, surprise, disgust, and contempt, and detecting facial micro-expressions. It extracts accurate output that can be employed in other fields of studies such as psychological assessment. The results indicate high precision that allows future development of applications that respond to spontaneous facial expressions in real time.","PeriodicalId":245530,"journal":{"name":"2012 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications (ACTEA)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131789536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
