The study about the trainees’ satisfaction evaluation aimed to identify aspects of the training program that could contribute to the adoption of innovative pedagogical practices and didactic models in universities in partner countries in Central Asia. In this study, a questionnaire was used to measure the trainees’ satisfaction regarding different aspects of the training program. The results show a clear satisfaction of the trainees in relation to the vast majority of the measured dimensions. The implications of this satisfaction study will have a direct impact on the restructuring of the course, namely with regard to some methodological options to be taken.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127199357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project is aimed to design and implement a highly interactive digital collaborative learning platform. VIE envisions a digital work environment through which students will design solutions to learning challenges through brainstorming and synthesizing by building on each other’s ideas. The VIE solution will simulate the way that students work together in a classroom towards design solution by taking notes on a common blackboard that all can see and update at the same time. The service functionality will include: avatar presence through which participants will be able to recognize their team members in the digital environment; sharing of ideas in the form of building blocks that all can see, review, edit, and combine simultaneously towards building a larger solution from smaller contributions; and project organization that allows the effective management and prioritization of tasks in a visual and engaging manner. Interaction will be supported through both desktop and mobile devices for maximizing access flexibility.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127524733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through a brief exploratory qualitative study, which despite being insipient, intends to give clues of the usefulness of the resource for future research. The EKUI methodology is designed to help identify, assess, and intervene in the skills necessary for learning to read, write, and communicate. The study has methodological options for the application of questionnaires to professionals who are applying the EKUI methodology in the current year. Furthermore, the methodology aims to applicate a semi-structured interview to professionals who have already applied the methodology in their pedagogical intervention, in order to validate its contributions. The results obtained show the importance of the EKUI methodology as a strategy of Universal Learning Design and, consequently, as a promoter of a reflective attitude in teachers. On the other hand, it also contributes to the identification and intervention in necessary skills for learning to read, write and communicate.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115188368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is usual that the student’s work is assessed through one or more practical activities in the form of projects in which it is common to work in groups due to their length and complexity. In this context, a quick and detailed feedback from the teacher helps students to identify mistakes in time and to improve possible shortcomings. However, correction, evaluation and feedback tasks are time-consuming. Thus, having tools that help in the monitoring and assessment processes of students’ activities would be very useful.What is presented in this paper is an approach capable of assisting teachers in the evaluation process of Programming courses through the use of readily available tools and without the need for complex development environments, APIs or frameworks.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122166961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research under the umbrella of self-regulation of learning (SRL) investigates students’ use of learning strategies and how to design interventions to support its development. SRL is a psychological construct that seeks to understand how students intentionally control several aspects of their learning to reach academic goals. There is increasing interest in investigating how this theory applies in the programming education domain. Still, more evidence is needed to understand how this process occurs and how educators could design interventions to foster this ability among programming students. Both of which are the objective of this PhD research.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127927535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reports of these projects are usually published in the institutional open access repository of the universities in the state. The network of Spanish university libraries (REBIUN) comprises a directory of 76 university repositories where reports on end-of-degree, end-of-master and thesis projects -among other documents-are published under an open access license. Any student of the degree in computer engineering (or any other degree) who wants to start the development of his EDP should, at least, query these repositories about the existence of previous related works to rely on them (or to avoid duplicities). However, there is no option to execute a global, simultaneous query in all repositories filtering by the degree in question. Yet, the institutional repositories that are part of REBIUN fully implement the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). This work describes how this OAI protocol has been used to capture the meta-information of the stored reports and how we created a search engine (RepoSearch) allowing queries on said metadata throughout 19 repositories of universities offering the Degree in Computer Engineering. Finally, we propose some reflections about the reality of open access policies in university repositories.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131083905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A year since the moment the “world stopped”, there were several studies and analyses everywhere and within the scientific community of all areas of knowledge. In this context, this article presents some reflections on how the teaching and learning process in distance learning occurred in a higher education institution (HEI). A questionnaire survey was conducted on 101 of the 158 professors who teach at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. This analysis deals mainly with the use of technologies in teaching to understand the impact of the pandemic on teachers’ work in the context of online education and whether this has increased stress and working hours, seeking to establish some correlations such as gender, age or family situation. The results obtained show a great capacity of teachers to adapt to this new reality despite doubts and concerns at the beginning of the process. Other relevant aspects of this study point to the increase in work resulting from the need for more time to prepare classes, the adaptation of teaching materials, and reformulate the way the contents were taught.","PeriodicalId":244532,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium on Computers in Education (SIIE)","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133640063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
