Abstract
Programming students often face difficulties caused by their deficiency or inefficient capability to organise and monitor their learning process. Research under the umbrella of self-regulation of learning (SRL) investigates students’ use of learning strategies and how to design interventions to support its development. SRL is a psychological construct that seeks to understand how students intentionally control several aspects of their learning to reach academic goals. There is increasing interest in investigating how this theory applies in the programming education domain. Still, more evidence is needed to understand how this process occurs and how educators could design interventions to foster this ability among programming students. Both of which are the objective of this PhD research.
