The Civic Attitudes and Skills Questionnaire (CASQ) developed by Moely, Mercer, Illustre, Miron and McFarland (2002) were used to conduct a pre and posttest with students who took the course. Qualitative data was also gathered from in-depth interviews. Quantitative data analysis revealed a significant change on Interpersonal and Problem Solving Skills and on Political Awareness. Interviews further confirmed that students experienced a transformational learning process. The study presents a mandatory course model used in Ecuador that could be implemented in higher education institutions from similar contexts in Latin America. Oladejo","doi":"10.18562/ijee.047","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18562/ijee.047","url":null,"abstract":": Decision-making is an invaluable function of any management. Its role in determining the policies of organization and formulating the organizational goals to be achieved cannot be over-emphasised. Understanding how one’s decision-making style affects organisation will therefore assist individual to craft the serious leadership calls that define a successful leader. On this premise, this study investigated academic-administrators’ decision-making styles and institutional goal attainment in public universities, Lagos State, Nigeria. Four null hypotheses, tested at .05 level of significance guided the study. The descriptive survey design was used. A total number of 52 academic-administrators, selected through convenience sampling technique from the two purposively selected public universities in Lagos State constituted the sample size. Data were collected with the aid of a self-designed, validated, and reliable (r=.89) questionnaire. Methods of data analysis used were Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and Pearson Chi Square. Results showed that institutional goal attainment was significantly correlated with academic-administrators’ directive (r=0.404; df= 50; p<0.05) and conceptual decision-making styles (r=0.113; df= 50; p<0.05) respectively. Also, analytic decision-making style and institutional goal attainment were significantly and strongly associated [χ2 (16, N= 52) = 72.40, p<0.05]. However, institutional goal attainment was not significantly independence of behavioural decision-making style [χ2 (16, N= 52) = 25.53, p> 0.05]. It was recommended among others that academic-administrators be more analytical and assertive while making decisions. They should always examine much information before taking action by relying on direct observation, data, and facts to support their decisions. Currently, college students are more exposed to technology integrated to the academic field as well as in their daily lives. This research article aims to measure Nursing students’ satisfaction during their first year as regards the Integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs). The study was carried out in a private university during the 2015-2016 school year. The studied population consisted of 1,130 students enrolled in the Nursing program. Of these, two-hundred-and-ten student (210) were in their first year. We aim to investigate how Nursing students regard Internet use, technological knowledge applied to information and its relation to ICTs in a higher education setting. On the other hand, we will be able to observe whether there is any correlation between Nursing students’ degree of satisfaction and knowledge as regards ICTs and sociodemographic variables. We propose that students exposed to ICTs will have a greater degree of satisfaction and academic achievement as compared to students not exposed to this type of technological tools. This study can help identify the most frequently used tools by students in the academic field as well as the need for technological innovation in Nursing programs curricula. This way, a curriculum adapted to technological innovation in the health field can be developed to prepare students in the use and correct management of ICT integration in an educational context. This questionnaire was sent to some experts: the results show that most agree with all dimensions raised and 100% of them feel the need to know their teaching experience, the reasons for practising their profession, their training needs and their willingness to update their knowledge. Four research questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The design used was the descriptive survey method. A population of 3,000 adolescents were used out of which a sample size of 239 were randomly selected using simple random sampling technique to select respondents for the study. The researcher constructed instrument called “Counselling Services and Study Habit Questionnaire” (CSSHQ), was used to collect data for the study, the reliability coefficient was tested using Cronbach Alpha Correlation analysis, it found 0.76.Independent t-test was used for data analysis. The findings revealed that, group counselling, orientation services, one-on-one counselling and information services influenced study habits of adolescents in secondary schools in IKot Ekpene area of Akwa Ibom State. Conclusions drawn from the study led to the following recommendations among others, school administrator should ensure that counselling is allocated in the school time table, so as to help in improving adolescent students study habits.","PeriodicalId":243145,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Educational Excellence","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115572414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Principals’ transformational leadership has been a focus on education for over a decade because of the crucial role it plays in influencing the performance of teachers and students. There is a call for principals who are more transformational and less transactional. Prior research has established that principals who adopt the transformational leadership style can motivate their teachers to ensure the higher academic achievement of students. Nonetheless, there is limited study on the relationship between the transformational leadership styles of principals and teacher motivation in most developing countries such as Ghana. Using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ 6S), this study investigates the four dimensions of transformational leadership; idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration of teacher motivation in some selected basic schools in Eastern Region, Ghana. Findings indicate that although principals self-reported higher transformational leadership style, it had no significant relationship with teacher motivation. Three of the four dimensions of transformational leadership negatively correlated with teacher motivation (“idealized influence, inspirational motivation, and intellectual stimulation). Teachers also reported low motivation. Further analysis revealed that principals equally practiced the transactional leadership style and less of the laissez-faire leadership style. The laissezfaire leadership style negatively correlated with teacher motivation. School administrators are encouraged to organize more leadership training programs for principals, and ensure teachers are adequately motivated to improve the academic performance of students.
