I focus on the previous interpretations of the text, in which researchers asked questions about human relations, the possibility of knowing other people and women’s identity, but also about fate and destiny. Moreover, they referred to the biographical context and undertook comparative analyses regarding the dramaturgy and poetics of the text. It considers the original and peculiar features of medieval Scandinavian historiography, as well as the difficulties that authors of translations from the Norn language may face. Due to the ambiguity of the very concept of a dead body (corpse, cadaver) and the special approach to this issue in Polish positivism (with all its dimensions and complexity), many of the author’s works contain interesting perspectives and opportunities to interpret the problem. The author analyzes and interprets the male viewpoints on two protagonists: Renata Słuczańska and Agnieszka Blizbor. In the story about an affair, the affair itself is somehow not crucial – more interesting are the men’s expectations and ideas about women (as sexual objects, as mothers or wives, as guardians of the hearth and home), which influence how they are portrayed. The basic concept for the analysis of their plays is the gaze that synthesizes events and allows us to capture changes. Nałkowska started writing plays in the third phase of her creative work (Ludwik Fryde) and considered them “little laboratories”. It is an exceptionally peculiar testimony of reception, perhaps also revealing to some extent the reasons for the gradual turning away of the author of \"The House of Women\" from playwriting. The author of the article tries to unravel the mystery of the dark tones and black color that dominate the tenor and landscapes of this text. The “aporias and ambivalences” mentioned in the title are the key to the semantics of this represented world. The analysis of individual lines shows their compositional dominant and great carrying power of meanings. Haska","doi":"10.31338/2657-599x.ph.2022-2.4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31338/2657-599x.ph.2022-2.4","url":null,"abstract":"An important element of the Polish colonial propaganda of the 1930s were the pioneers’ testimonies, which were not only a source of knowledge about the living conditions and countries where they established plantations, but – above all – an important element in shaping the image of the colonizer as a modern hero of the independent Poland – and thus a role model. The issue of “struggle for the Polish type of colonial pioneer” was one of the topics discussed frequently in the press of the period, and the image of the colonizer itself was changing. The initially dominant romantic vision of an emigrant pioneer who tames wild nature was over time often contrasted with the positivist model of a Polish entrepreneur, merchant, employee of commercial and trade companies or a merchant seaman. The article is an analysis of the testimonies of colonizers published in magazines issued by the Maritime and Colonial League. Polish SF literary colonies are not only the result of the intense ideological activity of the Maritime and Colonial League but – like many works of literature of the interwar period – are deeply rooted in the concepts of the 19th century. The literary colonies were frequently variations on the project of rebuilding the Polish state and nation beyond the existing borders, proclaimed, among others, by Piotr Wereszczyński in the 1870s.
