"Dzień jego powrotu" – w perspektywie krytyki literackiej i teatralnej dramatów Zofii Nałkowskiej

Abstract

A comprehensive review of the literary and theater criticism concerning Zofia Nałkowska’s second play reveals a great discrepancy in the reviewers’ opinions (Karol Irzykowski, Antoni Słonimski, Jan Lorentowicz, Adam Grzymała-Siedlecki). It is an exceptionally peculiar testimony of reception, perhaps also revealing to some extent the reasons for the gradual turning away of the author of "The House of Women" from playwriting. The most important aim of the study is to show the text of the play itself ensnared by overpowering critical commentary and to reflect on Nałkowska’s precursory intentions, which were ridiculed by her harsh critics who did not recognize their potential.
