In 2011-2013 National Transmission Company (CN Transelectrica SA) performed a refurbishment project for the OHL elements. A part of this large project is executed in LW technology by the maintenance subsidiary of Transelectrica (SC Smart SA). The live working part of project consist of: replacement of suspension insulation strings, replacement of insulation chain elements, replacement of dampers, replacement of vibration dampers, Installation of armour-rods together with suspension clamps, painting, Installation of aerial plates on towers, replacement of damaged tower elements. The work was done using some new methods for access on the conductors, including the aerial insulating platform class A. When a project starts we should consider all the ways to complete the works. Considering present technologies used in Romania some works needs deenergization of the line. For other parts of the project Live Working is mandatory, in order to maintain the system's stability. At the end of the project an economical analysis is done. Was it efficient to use Live Maintenance technologies?","PeriodicalId":238060,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114237737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has transformed the world in many ways since the day it was discovered. Today, we are depended heavily on electricity to run our daily activities. To meet customers' demand, utilities built extensive networks of transmission and distribution grids with efforts to ensure reliable power supply. A part from that, with global concern over changes in business models and entities, power utility companies are faced with tremendous pressure to sustain their businesses operation. New engineering solutions are sought after to ensure continuous availability of power supply while reducing operating costs. One of such engineering solution practiced in Malaysia is maintenance and refurbishment of electrical apparatus in high voltage 132kV and 275kV substations using 'live' method. This paper highlights Malaysia's four years achievements and experience in successful implementation of live maintenance technology.","PeriodicalId":238060,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117320338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This allows for a more cost-effective disconnection of line sections between two switching points for the purposes of carrying out work on the grid. Some abnormalities during switching operations with guying switch disconnectors have caused us to look into the electrical engineering process in greater detail. In doing so, we have examined more closely a potential impact on the operation of the grid and the safety of the switching staff. The relevant findings have been integrated into the development of a calculation tool. During preparation of the works, this tool is being used to carry out a feasibility check in terms of where the guying switch disconnector shall be installed and in what sequence the switching operations are to be arranged.","PeriodicalId":238060,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM)","volume":"218 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128171627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the thick ice covering the conductors during the winter times causing the shieldwire breaking the shieldwires had to be dismantled long time ago. Without the shielding screen of the shieldwires the line section was left open to be struck by lightning. To reduce the lightning impact the solution of arrester installing was selected. Two types of towers are to be analyzed to may find the best solutions to locate the arresters. Both the electrical and mechanical aspects were considered. The 400kV OHL Gutinas- Brasov being an important line it is very difficult to be deenergised. That was an important reason for which live working technologies were developed and applied for mounting the arresters.","PeriodicalId":238060,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122086576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main advantage of this technique that it represents a balance between technical and economic factors: no consumer disturbance is needed, there is not any service outage caused and losses can be kept as low as possible. Because of these reasons different live-line methods are becoming more and more popular on all voltage levels. Special techniques are available for low, middle and high voltage grids. On high voltage levels “barehand method” is widely applied worldwide. The main principle of this method is an enclosed metal surface around the worker acting as a Faraday cage. Inside an ideal Faraday-cage electric field is zero from outer source. The efficiency of a clothing mainly depends on the size of holes (so called “Faraday-holes”) on the surface. A proper face mesh can guarantee the safety of the live-line worker. Calculations, simulations and measurements in the High Voltage Laboratory of Budapest University of Technology and Economics have proved that poor, coarse or missing face shield decreases the efficiency by the increase of body current.","PeriodicalId":238060,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Conference on Live Maintenance (ICOLIM)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122249866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
