Buck, a famous cross-cultural female writer, during the past century has appealed to both domestic and foreign scholars, as her works are remarkably distinguishable from other Western writers. This article investigates the comprehensive narrative features of Pearl S. Buck, by taking the perspective of post-colonialism. The reasonability of applying the theory to the research of Pearl Buck’s works lies in two aspects. Firstly, the historical background of post-colonial criticism is similar to that of Pearl Buck’s works, namely, to break the grand narrative of Western World and to make the voice of the Orient be heard. Secondly, the core concepts of both are consistent ─ the relationship between “knowledge” and “power” and how to promise sovereignty in intercultural communication. The findings are summarized features in perspective, character and language use of Pearl S. Chinese prose has attracted numerous literary experts who devote themselves to the spread of it. As an outstanding translator in China, Zhang Peiji spent most of his life devoting to Chinese-English prose translation and theoretical research. His four-volume Selected Modern Chinese Essays has been well received by translation learners and foreign scholars for its clever use of words, vivid language and expressive force. Since the translation version was published, many scholars have researched it from the various aspects, but their researches generally start from the textual level and the sentence level. The study of vocabulary is not deep enough. They do not systematically explore the translation features of words of Zhang Peiji’ s prose translation, and researches are still not in-depth enough in terms of the analysis of translation skills. Word translation has a great relationship with the improvement of the quality of the translation version. Therefore, this paper, based on the three principles of Skopos Theory of Translation proposed by Vermeer, studied the translation of words in Zhang Peiji’ s Selected Modern Chinese Essays and the translation techniques used in them, and analyzed the translation purpose and effect the translation has realized. The study shows that the three principles of Skopos theory have practical significance in guiding the translation practice of words in prose. Instead, it has interacted with different cultures, giving rise to the emergence and rapid development of varieties of English. In the expanding circle countries where English is used as a lingua franca, it is important to strike a balance between language proficiency and cultural background when choosing a medium for classroom-based instruction. It is crucial to select an easy-to-use and sustainable variety of English based on the teaching practices in a particular context, in order to better cater to the needs of learners. The results showed that: (1) Japanese proficiency effects the accuracy rate of indirect speech act, the higher the Japanese proficiency, the higher the accuracy rate. However, there is no clear linear relationship between the learners’ Japanese proficiency and the indirect speech act’s response time. (2) The lexical accessing speed effects the learners’ response time of indirect speech act, the faster the accessing speed is, the shorter the indirect speech acts’ response time. The lexical accessing speed also affects the comprehension accuracy rate of the high-level learners. In The Great Gatsby, the main characters, such as Gatsby and Daisy, tactically violate or abide by the relevant maxims of Cooperative Principle in their conversational communication, thus generating Conversational Implicature and expressing their true feelings. Comparing the records of \"Xinian\" with the records of \"Zuozhuan\" , it is concluded that the two records are consistent. But also found that its narrative angle and style are different. But, compared the record of this incident with the records in the \"Bamboo Annals\" and \"Shiji\" , and found that there was no deviation from the historical facts in the records of each family, and there was a problem with the angle of knowledge narration.
