There are two screenwriters named Zhen Chong and Wang Yao. They used unique writing strategies to narrate the story of Princess Tai Ping and Empress Wu Zetian who are trapped in a delimma of power and emotion during a special period of Tang Dynasty, showing the confusion of women in the feudal society of ancient China. This article will use the theory of feminist stylistics to analyze the script of Palace of Desire. To be more specific, the paper focuses on narrative voices in Palace of Desire. It is hoped that how the screenwriters construct the narrative authority of women and make the work a feminist classic can be interpreted.","PeriodicalId":223840,"journal":{"name":"Lecture Notes on Language and Literature","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116231477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the two female leading characters were in different times and countries, they share a lot in common in the causes of destiny tragedy. Both Hester and Tess were born in poor families and suffered the oppression of religion and male-oriented society. Both of them were victims of two men. However, they finally went to different endings of salvation and destruction for different resistance attitudes and personalities. Tess was hesitant in resisting tradition and adopted a radical way of confrontation while Hester insisted on countering the tradition and adopted a sustained way. Hester was tough, self-reliance and sustained while Tess was weak, dependence and radical. Through comparative studying the similarities and differences between Hester and Tess, we can reflect the same trouble of female survival under male power and gain some enlightenment on the current male-female relationships.","PeriodicalId":223840,"journal":{"name":"Lecture Notes on Language and Literature","volume":"194 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129279586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With textual analysis and qualitative approaches, the paper first examines them in terms of the number of reports and then applies the content mining software ROST to analyze the coverage of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics at the following levels: (1) The issue setting of the Beijing Winter Olympics in Indian English mainstream newspapers. (2) The discourse presentation of China’s national image in Indian English mainstream newspapers. The results show that the mainstream English newspapers in India present a more positive image of China as a powerful country. Although the shaping of the national image saw some success in terms of communication effects, to actively set up issues and change the “pre-determined” perspective is needed in order to fully comprehend and recognize China’s ideas and values. This paper uses textual analysis and qualitative approaches to examine the China-related reports of The Times of India, Hindustan Times, and The Hindu (online versions). The national image of China, as it appears in reports of the Beijing Winter Olympics in Indian English-language mainstream newspapers, is analyzed and the opportunities and challenges facing the communication of China’s image are explored.","PeriodicalId":223840,"journal":{"name":"Lecture Notes on Language and Literature","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114341925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
