The present study was focused on the interaction of bioactive peptides extracted from silver carp (H. molitrix) bones with human keratinocytes in culture. The potential of fish bone bioactive peptides to influence cell viability, proliferation and migration was evaluated in different experimental models in vitro. The results demonstrated a high efficiency and bioactivity of the enzymatically extracted fish bone peptides in several processes involved in cutaneous wound healing, in particular stimulation of keratinocytes metabolism and migration. In conclusion, they present a huge potential for applications in skin tissue engineering, but also in the biomedical and cosmetic fields.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2692-2699"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42585711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fungi from the phylum Glomeromycota can establish symbiosis with roots of more than 70% vascular plant species, ensuring enhanced nutrient uptake. Aim of this study was to assess functional integration of inoculated arbuscular mycorrhiza and implications for success of symbiose in field conditions and host fitness. Iris pseudacorus was used as perennial model plant for study of seasonal continuity and persisting effects in second year after inoculation. During 2019 was conducted Trouvelot microscopic evaluation for 1080 stained root samples and parameters were obtained using Mycocalc. Results showed that colonization was significantly influenced by phenophase. Inoculated plants presented values with 1.56-14.49% higher. Plant height correlated significantly positive with inoculation (r=0.336*). Results showed that colonization parameters are useful indicators in tracking symbiose across a temporal gradient.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2631-2639"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41512537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many different alternative products that are preferred for use among cancer patients. Our study is based on shark cartilage and liver oil as alternative products within alternative treatment (CAM) due to low incidence of cancer in sharks. Method: With this study; it was aimed to search the toxic effects of DMH on colon, SC and SLO ‘s conservative effects against these toxic and carcinogic effects. 40 rats have been classified as follows: 40 DMH group: 4; control group – 6; given DMH but not cured group – 15; given DMH and cured with SC group – 15; given DMH and cured with SLO group. Results and Conclusion: The negative effects of DMH on biochemical, genetic, and pathological were observed in rat column; The treatment of SLO and SC against to colon cancer is thought to be associated with damage and regression of tumor cells. When we look at the numerical results, it can be said that SC is more successful and effective in correcting the effect of DMH. It can be said that our experimental model provides the desired aim and success in this direction.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44956407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Probiotic Labneh was prepared by the traditional method (TM) and direct formulation method (DFM). In both methods, used skim milk powder (SMP) for treatments (A and C), while used a mixture (1:1) of whey powder (WP) and whey protein concentrate (WPC) was used for treatments (B and D). The results indicated that total solid (TS), fat, protein and ash had the lowest values (P≤0.05) in B treatment, whereas the differences between the rest treatments were insignificant (P<0.05). Labneh made using the DFM had the lowest values for carbohydrate content and acidity and the highest pH values. The counts of Bifidobacteria and L. acidophilus were not influenced by the ingredients used or by the method applied for making the product. All fresh and stored Labneh had more than 6 log CFU/g for probiotic bacteria. Organoleptically, the general appearance, consistency and flavour of bio-Labneh were not significantly influenced by the applied treatments or by the manufacturing method but a gradual decrease in their scoring points were recorded with advancing storage period.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2587-2593"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47805220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A series of 23 cases of healthy young individuals, treated for bacterial keratitis, provoked а research on the predisposing factors for its development. Results: 55% of the patients had started to wear contact lenses without specific examination. 75% had made mistakes in the hygiene and storage of the lenses. We identified risk factors for development of bacterial keratitis in all cases. Conclusions: A thorough anamnesis and ophthalmic examination are crucial in decision making about contact lens wearing because they could reveal some of the predisposing conditions for the occurrence of ocular complications. The usage of contact lenses without a prescription poses health risks and could have a negative impact on the social and healthcare system.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2626-2630"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45112927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intrapancreatic injection of mesenchymal stromal cells may be a viable delivery route for experimental therapy in type 1 diabetes. Adequate in vivo cell imaging is important to evaluate the treatment efficiency, the fate of the transplanted cells, and the mechanisms of the effects observed. Here, we present a technique for delivering these cells into the mouse pancreas and tracking them using fluorescent near-infrared quantum dots and in vivo imaging. Methods and results. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells isolated from NOD mice were cultured and labeled with Qdots 800 nanocrystals, before being injected in the pancreas of pre-diabetic mice. In vivo analysis (IVIS Spectrum system) showed that the cells were successfully injected and remained localized in the pancreas for at least 24 hours. Conclusions. Labeling of mesenchymal stromal cells with Qdots 800 nanocrystals is a reliable method for in vivo cell tracking, after local delivery in the pancreas.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2707-2713"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46145804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study was to assess the profile of cell growth parameters and biomass accumulation of 15 newly isolated yeast and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains from Romanian spontaneous fermented dairy products under different environmental stress conditions (chemical and physical). On this purpose, the yeast and LAB strains were characterized and identified using MALDI-TOF MS and selected for their biotechnological potential. Cell growth was evaluated in presence of extreme pH values, temperatures and different NaCl concentrations. All strains included in this study grew well under their optimal conditions; some of them preferred extreme parameters: acid / very alkaline pH, high temperatures or NaCl concentration The characterization of microbiota from Romanian spontaneous fermented dairy products might represent a great opportunity for the development of dairy industry using native microorganisms, preserving thus the Romanian biodiversity and cultural heritage.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2548-2559"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48672677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Odontoblasts can also form tertiary dentin, as a response to injury, in association with caries, trauma, or restorative procedures. Generally, this dentin is less organized than primary and secondary dentin and mostly localized to the site of injury. The reactive dentin formation that lays under caries, the pulp displays chronic inflammation and tertiary dentinogenesis takes place on the inner walls of the pulp space, in the region of the dentinal tubules associated with the base of the carious lesion. Higher-power photomicrograph of tertiary dentin shown in a primary dentin, first period of tertiary dentin formation, second period of tertiary dentin formation. We initiated a case study regarding depositition of tertiary dentin in the close proximity of the cervical perforation hole on mesial root of the second maxillary molar. The repair material used (Biodentine, Septodont) was found placed under the tertiary dentin layer, rather than at the perforation place, mentioning the fact that the group of residents was not experienced with the management of the endodontic microscope and did not use a proper field. We consider that we have identified dead tracts due to the fact that they were formed consequently carious lesions pathology, thereafter the tertiary dentin at the appearance of the coronal aspect was identified at the end of the dead tracts. The portion of the canal entrances were investigated both with analyzed filters (Crossed Polars) and with compensatory devices (retardation plates). The present study identified tertiary dentine deposits in the coronary portion of the adjacent root canal entered in the perforation. At a thorough analysis of the coronal portions of the mesial root canal with compensating devices and analyzers filters, it was noticed a soft dentin blanket in which the dentinary tubules do not exist or are of very rare deposition.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2523-2526"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48048868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PANC-1, BxPC-3 and SW1990 cells cultured were used for wound healing assay and MTT assay. Western blot was used to see expression levels of mTOR signal pathway associated protein PI3K, p-PI3K, AKT, p-AKT, mTOR, and p-mTOR inhibited by rapamycin. The pancreatic cancer cell lines of PANC-1, BxPC-3 and SW1990 were all resistant to DDP. After the application of DDP combined with rapamycin, the migration and invasive ability of the three cell lines decreased significantly (P<0.01). Moreover, after different concentrations of rapamycin were added, the survival rate of the three cell lines decreased significantly, so did the IC50 (P<0.01). Western blot assay showed that rapamycin significantly down-regulated the expression of PI3K, AKT and mTOR proteins in PANC-1 and BxPC-3 cells, inhibited the phosphorylation of PI3K, AKT and mTOR, decreased p-mTOR protein expression, but its effect on the expression of mTOR protein in SW1990 cells was weaker. Rapamycin can reduce the migration and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells, increase the sensitivity of pancreatic cancer to DDP, and reverse the resistance of DDP. This process is achieved by inhibiting expression and phosphorylation of mTOR signaling pathway related proteins.","PeriodicalId":21566,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Biotechnological Letters","volume":"26 1","pages":"2476-2482"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43097173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
