The objective was to determine the frequency of skin diseases in donkeys ( Equus asinus ). A total of 238 cases of dermopathies were treated, but the most frequently diagnosed cases were: traumatic wounds (26.4%), tick ectoparasitism (19.7%), dermatophytosis (16.3%), sarcoids (8.9%), habronemiasis (7.1%), pythiosis (6.3%), scabies (5.4%), myiasis (4.6%), abscesses (2.9%), dermatophilosis (1.7%), papillomatosis (0.4%), melanoma (0.4%), photosensitization (0.4%), and burns (0.4%). The most affected age group was between 5 and 10 years (60.3%), followed by young animals under 5 years old (20.8%), and those older than 10 years of age (19.2%). The major skin diseases diagnosed in donkeys were traumatic wounds, tick ectoparasitism, and dermatophytosis. This work is a significant contribution on the epidemiological status of different dermopathies, with their respective importance for management and control.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"65 1","pages":"81-92"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74599429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the objective of characterizing milk production systems in this valley, a qualitative descriptive study was carried out, using a survey aimed at producers in specialized dairy production systems in order to evaluate different technical and productive aspects. It was found that 79.26% of the parcels have less than 7 ha; 78.6% have 2 to 5 animals; animal load capacity ranges from 1.14 to 2.92 large livestock units (LLU); 45.72% of the parcels are leased; in 80% of the parcels, administration and management is carried out by the owners with a low level of schooling (63.7%); 48.9% do not have any type of livestock installations, and 100% do manual milking; most of them do not keep accounting records (57.1 to 86.7%); 57.1 to 80% of the treatments are performed by persons other than veterinarians; the degree of technical assistance is very low regarding the agricultural as well as administrative management of the grassland; there is a low degree of associativity, composition of the herd, reproduction and grassland management; there is a medium degree of land use, as well as sanitary, labor, and calves management. It is concluded that the production systems evaluated are mostly small landholdings, with a high animal load and a low degree of technical assistance, which is reflected in low productive, reproductive, sanitary, and administrative efficiency.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"58 1","pages":"31-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76940865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study systematized the experience of the undergraduate professionalizing academic practice in Animal Health Administration (AHA) at the Universidad de Antioquia, which is developed in municipalities of the department of Antioquia. The methodological route involved three stages: historical construction of the practice from collective memory, critical analysis of the practice, and learning from the practice to improve it. Process flow devices were used, such as semi-structured interview, conversation, storytelling, exit interview with former participants, workshop, document review and interpretation, and field diary. In total, 17 municipalities were visited and 74 people were interviewed. Results included the construction of the contextual framework of AHA, listing and location of municipalities with AHA historical presence, construction of a timeline with a network of agents and events, construction and analysis of the guiding discourse, identification of strengths, limitations, and shortcomings of the practice in university and municipal environments, as well as contributions to transcending shortcomings and strengthening the practice. The AHA practice represents the materialization of the University’s potential to foster dialogue between the University and society by supporting the role of municipalities in animal health and public health, although it requires profound interventions to exploit its transformative and educational potential.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"26 1","pages":"149-166"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73896551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El proyecto Nucleos Integrales Sostenibles Agropecuarios (NISA) apoyo estos procesos. Un nucleo NISA lo conforman entre 20 y 28 productores que comparten conocimientos de innovacion ganadera. Un ejercicio previo de epidemiologia participativa permitio conocer los problemas mas sentidos, entre ellos las afecciones parasitarias. Se realizo un estudio epidemiologico transversal en bovinos jovenes de diversas edades para establecer las dinamicas de infeccion parasitaria en nucleos NISA en los municipios de Puerto Rico y La Macarena, como fundamento para intervenciones de prevencion y control. En cada finca se muestrearon diez bovinos jovenes y algunos animales adultos para analisis hematologico y coprologico; se determino peso y condicion de cada animal. Las ganancias de peso en terneros fluctuaron entre 450 y 500 g/d. Se encontraron parasitos internos en todas las fincas, pero difirieron en importancia; Strongyloides papillosus y Toxocara vitulorum presentaron altos recuentos en bovinos de 2 a 5 meses de edad. Los trichostrongylidos alcanzaron pico de excrecion a los seis meses de edad. Las concentraciones moderadas de parasitos son inductoras de inmunidad; por tanto, se recomienda tratamiento antihelmintico solo a esta edad. Se sugirio la existencia de estabilidad endemica para hemoparasitos. La asesoria profesional debe dirigirse a asegurar que el productor comprenda estos procesos de estabilidad sin abusar de los farmacos, atendiendo componentes de manejo y bienestar animal. La extension rural requiere ser acompanada de politicas publicas y considerar aspectos socioeconomicos para contribuir al desarrollo rural, lo que reducira las desigualdades en el campo colombiano. Fueron consideradas dentro del estudio solo aquellas historias clinicas completas que presentaran un diagnostico definitivo. Los casos atendidos fueron clasificados segun el sistema afectado, el diagnostico definitivo, el tipo de tratamiento (medico o quirurgico) y la ubicacion geografica en Cordoba. Se analizaron 6356 historias clinicas de casos presentados entre 2005 y 2016, de las cuales el 77,09 % fueron en la especie bovina, y el sistema mas afectado fue el hematopoyetico con 79,29 % de la casuistica, seguido del sistema tegumentario (11,18 %) y el sistema digestivo (2,86 %). Se atendio el 73 % de los municipios del departamento, donde se observo un alto predominio de alteraciones en el sistema hematopoyetico (79,29 %), seguido por el sistema tegumentario (11,18 %) y el sistema digestivo (2,86 %). Se establecio que el sistema hematopoyetico fue afectado por hematropicos endoglobulares como Babesia spp. y Anaplasma spp. , mientras que el sistema tegumentario fue afectado principalmente por infestaciones con Rhabditis spp. (41 %), seguido de infecciones por dermatofitosis (19 %) y papilomavirus (16 %). Se puede concluir que el servicio ambulatorio de la Clinica Medico-Quirurgica de Grandes Animales de la Universidad de Cordoba posee una amplia y variada casuistica, lo que se demuestra variedad en las frecuencias de las patologias que afectan a los grandes animales de Cordoba. In Colombia, there are no studies related to the presence of leptospires in equine semen, and according to health plans designed for this species they are not vaccinated against this disease. Samples were collected from a total of 107 animals, selected by convenience sampling; after serum analysis, 35 were seroreactive (32.7%), corresponding to the Leptospira interrogans serogroup, serovars canicola, pomona, and grippotyphosa. Leptospira spp. DNA was detected by conventional PCR in two semen samples that represented 1.9% of the total samples. Using the dark-field technique, different bacterial forms were found in most of the pre-ejaculatory fluid samples, some of them compatible with Leptospira . Desquamated cells, crystals, and urates were also found. For this reason, it is relevant to analyze the contribution of a field of knowledge to a sector or social field. This is the purpose of this work, which seeks to understand the contribution of veterinary sciences (VS) to Colombian rurality and to provide feedback for educators and researchers. The study evaluated contribution to knowledge generation and the visibility of the relations between VS and rurality in the national context. 91 VS-oriented research groups were identified, 90 of which, with 1553 members, showed contribution to Colombian rurality. These groups are concentrated in the capitals of the Andean and north-west central cultural regions. 2219 rural publications were registered between 2006 and 2016. The article was the most frequently used resource (91%) in national and Spanish media. The main themes were: production (48.2%), animal health (19.1%), environment (13.2%), and epidemiology (7.5%). On the other hand, internet activity exposed the limited public interest in rural veterinary medicine, although upward trends were observed for “veterinary” and “veterinary, rural” results, which reflects a weak relationship between VS practice and Colombian rurality. This is reinforced by the lack of links and actions taken by the public agricultural sector to strengthen the education and provision of veterinary services. The results evidence the contribution of VS in Colombia and provide useful information for the planning of future rural strategies.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"1 1","pages":"67-80"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88594035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Necropsy must be ordered, systematic, and complete, in order to extract as much information as possible from the corpse, so as to determine the cause of death or the presence of a particular pathology. In addition, correctly performed necropsy will allow for an adequate sampling.
