The advantage is that these agents do not leave residues in the egg or meat of the poultry, and do not cause risk of developing antibiotic resistance in human microbiota. The use of probiotic microorganisms, mainly lactic acid-producing bacteria in poultry feeding, contributes to maintaining the integrity and stability of the intestinal flora. This hampers the proliferation of harmful microorganisms, which helps to prevent the onset of disease and improves productive performance. Nevertheless, regarding their effect as growth promoters, results are contradictory, largely because of the variety of microorganisms and doses that can be administered, the type of poultry used, methods of administration, diet compositions, and environmental conditions in which bioassays are performed. Therefore, given the need to eliminate antibiotics as growth promoters, it is essential to continue researching and expanding our knowledge of these additives, by conducting bioassays to determine bacterial strains and the most suitable methods of administration in modern poultry lineages under intensive production. The objective of this review is to present an analysis of the conditions under which these substances work, and to explain why their effects are sometimes insignificant.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"28 1","pages":"175-189"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77115358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this paper was to demonstrate the validity of this theory in the urine of sheep with hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis. An experimental-type study was conducted to induce hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis in sheep. During the control and induction periods, calculated pH, measured pH, net acid excretion, ammonium and strong ion difference (SID) in urine were examined every 24 hours until development of paradoxical aciduria or physical deterioration of subjects. Pearson’s correlation (r) was determined between measured and calculated pH based on SID in urine. A high correlation between measured and calculated urine pH was observed using SID calculated from net acid excretion (r = 0.874). The correlation between calculated SID and urine pH was significant (r = 0.839). However, the correlation between SID and measured urine pH was moderate (r = 0.588). It is concluded that there is a high correlation between pH calculated from SID using net acid excretion and pH measured in the urine of sheep with hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis. This indicates that urine pH depends strongly on SID and, therefore, a reduction in pH can be explained by a decrease in SID.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"29 1","pages":"113-127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83716030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A biological model with mice was developed to evaluate the effect of CLB on weight gain and histological lesions. Mice were fed rabbit meat, which was previously supplemented with CLB. Body weight was recorded 35 days post-exposure; muscular and serum concentration of CLB was obtained through the ELISA test, and tissues were collected from liver and heart for histopathological analysis. Values obtained from the experimental animals (G1 and G2) were analyzed by a completely randomized experimental design with two treatments (n = 10), subjected to an analysis of variance and comparison of means with the Tukey test (p < 0.05). There was an increase of 7 g in body weight in G1, compared to 4.0 g in G2. Liver weight was 2.58 g and 1.79, respectively (p < 0.05). In G1, CLB concentration in muscle was 5324 pg.g –1 , and 4378 pg.g –1 in blood serum. Only histological changes were observed in the tissues of G1 mice. Liver showed cellular swelling, moderate mitosis, pyknosis and hydropic degeneration; in addition, fiber thickening, pleomorphism and nuclear atypia were observed in the heart. CLB contributed to weight gain in exposed mice and caused structural alterations in liver and heart.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"60 1","pages":"129-136"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91102441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Random samplings were performed in 5 colonies of Cienaga de Oro from June to August 2015. By means of urban excursions, direct observation and photographic records, 325 pigeons were studied. Autosomal markers encoding plumage color and design were used: Grizzle (G), Spread (S), Checker (C), and the sex-linked Ash-Red locus (B). Genetic parameters—allele frequency, genetic diversity, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and population structure—were calculated using the PopGene 1.31 program. Genetic structure and genetic distance were evaluated using the FSTAT v. 2.9.3.2 program. A dendrogram was elaborated using the MEGA 5.2 program. The marker with the highest allele frequency was Spread , while the Ash-Red marker showed the lowest values. Little genetic differentiation between populations and high gene flow were obtained. An excess of heterozygotes was observed, in addition to the absence of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. A possible natural selection for the Spread marker was evidenced.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"16 1","pages":"93-101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90419184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each batch was sacrificed at pre-established times, and blood, muscle, and liver samples were obtained over a period of up to 120 h post-application. The assay consisted of the liquid-liquid extraction of analyte and its separation and quantification by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Time averages for plasma and tissue concentration were analyzed using the PK Solution software. Withdrawal period was calculated using the WT 1.4 program, based on maximum residue limits (MRL) of 200 and 400 μg/kg, established for chicken muscle and liver, respectively. Danofloxacin exhibits a rapid absorption, resulting in a Cmax of 1.1 μg/ml with a Tmax of 1 h; t½β (h) was 7.64; 6.16 and 12.77 in plasma, liver, and muscle, respectively; a Vd of 5.51 L/kg; tissue/plasma ratios of 0.48 and 6.61 in muscle and liver, respectively, and levels up to 72 h. Based on residual concentration analysis, a withdrawal period of 1.4 and 3.34 d was estimated for muscle and liver, respectively.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"26 1","pages":"103-111"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87949845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aimed to determine the effect of the supernatant of Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus lactis on pork loin. The supernatant (500 μl) was used in 50 g of loin, and as controls, lactic acid (2%) and physiological saline (without additive). Each treatment was evaluated at 4 and 20 °C for 15 days. On days 0, 7 and 15, microbiological, physicalchemical and sensorial measurements were performed; the first two were evaluated with a 4×2 factorial block design. The block consisted of measurement days, and the factors were additive and temperature. Sensory evaluation was done by analysis of variance. There was no interaction between factors (p > 0.05). Total coliforms, sulfite-reducing clostridium , and pH showed no difference in the additive factor (p > 0.05), but fecal coliforms, acidity and water retention capacity did (p < 0.05). Refrigeration (4 °C) had better results. It is concluded that the supernatant of L. plantarum preserves pork loin; in addition, it maintains organoleptic characteristics and avoids microbial growth. L. lactis showed similar results to lactic acid and was better than the treatment without additive, although the values of this strain were inferior to those found in L. plantarum .","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"35 1","pages":"159-173"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79139959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is the first report on the most common neoplasms in domestic dogs in northeastern Mexico, which establishes important bases for future epidemiological research. A retrospective study covering 2013 and a prospective study from January to August of 2014 was carried out in the Animal Pathology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas, as well as in a private laboratory. A total of 250 samples of cytopathology and histopathology of tumors or lesions suggestive of neoplasms were analyzed. 213 of them were diagnosed as neoplasms and 37 as non-neoplastic processes. Malignant neoplasms were more frequent than benign ones. They were classified as epithelial or mesenchymal neoplasms. Mixed breed dogs were the most affected, followed by the Labrador breed. Female dogs developed tumors with the highest frequency, with 145 records. For the statistical analysis, Fisher’s exact test was used, which determined the existence of a statistically significant association (p < 0.05) between the presence of the five most frequent types of tumors and the patients’ sex, race, and age in the development of neoplasms. No significant differences were observed when evaluating the relation of the neoplastic tumor with race and sex, although there was a significant difference (p < 0.05) regarding the patients’ age.","PeriodicalId":21407,"journal":{"name":"Revue De Medecine Veterinaire","volume":"4 1","pages":"53-71"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85047215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
