A predisposicao biologica no desenvolvimento da gagueira ainda nao e bem compreendida, mas contribuicoes geneticas para esta predisposicao sao reforcadas tanto por referencias a agregacao familial da gagueira, quanto a gagueira familial, que tem aparecido na literatura ha mais de 70 anos. Assim, procuramos estabelecer uma revisao quanto aos provaveis fatores geneticos envolvidos com a manifestacao da gagueira desenvolvimental persistente familial. A identificacao de genes relacionados a gagueira, bem como de alteracoes em suas estruturas (por exemplo, mutacoes), contribuem significativamente para sua compreensao. O modelo exato de transmissao da heranca genetica para a gagueira ainda nao esta claramente definida e, provavelmente pode ser diferente entre diferentes familias e populacoes. As analises genomicas demonstram, concomitantemente, a relevância dos componentes geneticos envolvidos e sua complexidade, sugerindo assim tratar-se de uma doenca poligenica, na qual diversos genes de efeitos variados podem estar envolvidos com o aumento da susceptibilidade de ocorrencia da gagueira. O clinico devera estar alerta ao fato de que uma crianca com historico familial positivo para gagueira podera ter uma forte tendencia a desenvolver o disturbio de forma cronica. E importante que o clinico esteja atento, de modo a fornecer as familias orientacoes precisas sobre o disturbio. As avaliacoes objetivas e os tratamentos controlados tem um papel muito importante para o dominio da evolucao do disturbio.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"489-494"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/S1516-80342012000400021","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67597711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: Subjects were 50 children (mean age 7 years 11 months) with diagnosis within the autism spectrum that were assessed according to the FCP-R criteria. Answers were scored and classified according to severity, and the results were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: This group characterization evidenced results that agree with the literature, showing disorders mainly in the areas of language (expressive and receptive), behavior and pragmatics. Individuals without verbal communication also showed speech and fluency disorders. CONCLUSION: The FCP-R was sensitive to characterize the studied population, and even more efficient for individual assessment.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"454-458"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/S1516-80342012000400015","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67597393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The following variables were involved: most affected phonemes, severity of phonological disorder, and age. METHODS: Participants were 50 children, with an average age of 6 years and 5 months. Speech data were collected by means of the Avaliacao Fonologica da Crianca (Phonological Assessment of Children) and submitted to contrastive analysis. The severity of the phonological disorder was determined by the Percentage of Consonants Correct - Revised. Then, it was analyzed which plosive and fricative phonemes were affected by the devoicing strategy, with occurrence greater than 40%. Afterwards, statistical analysis was performed. RESULTS: The simultaneous comparison the six phonemes showed no difference regarding the use of devoicing. Difference was found only for /g/ x /v/, and for /b/ x /v/. Regarding age, no significant difference was found. As for the severity of phonological disorder, difference was found only for the variable devoicing of /d/ and /ʒ/. CONCLUSION: The phonological process of devoicing have high occurrence in children with phonological disorder, with higher prevalence for stops consonants. Age does not influence the occurrence of this process, and the severity of the phonological disorder is a relevant factor to its use, with higher prevalence in the most severe degrees.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"430-434"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67597015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, the demand for CI also occurs by deaf parents, fluent in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), who resort to this treatment to offer their children another reality. The environment of these children is bilingual, with exposition to LIBRAS through their parents and to oral language through close relatives, audiologist/speech-language pathologist, and the school. In this sense, the present study aimed to follow-up four implanted deaf children - two with deaf parents fluent in LIBRAS (exposed to a bilingual environment), and two with hearing parents (exposed to oral environment). For this purpose, abilities of hearing and oral language development were compared in these children with CI. It was observed that all four children in this study presented similar language development and auditory skills throughout the first year of CI use. However, after this period, children inserted into a bilingual environment had better auditory and linguistic performance when compared to the other children. Children in bilingual environments can benefit from the CI, developing auditory skills and oral language similarly to children inserted into an oral environment. It is emphasized that the benefits of the device is dependent on several factors, and further studies are needed.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"476-481"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67597349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: Participants were 118 full-term and preterm infants, from newborns to 6-month-olds - 63 with clinical diagnosis of physiological GER performed by pediatricians or gastroenterologists, and 55 without GER -, who were submitted to tympanometry with probe tones of 226 and 1 kHz. RESULTS: Higher compliance values were found with 1 kHz in both groups. Comparing the average compliance between groups, we observed that the group without reflux showed higher values. The mean value of the tympanometric gradient was higher in the group without reflux, when compared to the one with reflux. CONCLUSION: The 1 kHz probe tone has higher compliance in infants with and without GER, when compared to the 226 Hz probe tone. Infants with reflux have compliance within normal limits, although they present lower compliance than infants without reflux. Regarding the gradient, infants with GER have altered values and/or within normality limits in both ears.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"156-160"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/S1516-80342012000200009","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67594778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS: Cross-sectional study carried out with 126 children from the south region of the city of Sao Paulo, with ages ranging from 6 months to 6 years. The Denver II Developmental Screening Test was administered to detect the risk for language disorders. The test results were compared to the following variables: age, gender, mother's level of education, child nutritional status, number and order of children's birth, and anemia. Results were statistically analyzed. RESULTS:According to the Denver II test, 18.3% of the 126 participants were at risk for language disorders, and 9.5% presented anemia. No differences were found between risk and non-risk groups regarding age, nutritional status, gender, and mother's education. Differences were found between groups regarding number of children per family, birth order, and presence of anemia. CONCLUSION: The risk for disorders in language acquisition and development was higher in the group with anemia, in the eldest children, and in the children with less than four siblings. Similar studies are necessary to detect possible deviations in language development and, consequently, in the child's learning process and future social performance.","PeriodicalId":21204,"journal":{"name":"Revista Da Sociedade Brasileira De Fonoaudiologia","volume":"17 1","pages":"177-181"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/S1516-80342012000200013","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67595286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
