The main groups of psychotropic medications (antipsychotics, antidepressants, and mood stabilizers) have actions on cardiac conduction, rhythm, blood pressure; and are associated with potentially serious cardiovascular side-effects. They are occasionally associated with serious adverse events such as myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. Second-generation antipsychotics and antidepressants are routinely prescribed as first-line treatments for psychiatric conditions, but they are also associated with cardiovascular side-effects and, in case of some of second-generation antipsychotics, higher burden of cardiometabolic side-effects. Once started on treatment, careful monitoring and vigilance is required. This article summarizes the cardiovascular side-effects associated with the three major classes of psychotropic medications and makes recommendations about cardiovascular monitoring during treatment.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123288691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Imbalance of these connections may lead to inflammatory diseases and suppression of the immune system, as occurs in chronic viral infections and cancer [1]. With interferon type I (IFN-Is) as key stimuli IFN-I are produced by virus-infected cells to create an inherent cellular antiviral status in neighboring cells to eliminate infection. However, long-term IFN-I signaling leads to impaired immune function by inducing suppressive agents that impair immunity to promote tissue organization and homeostasis [2]. The patient approach should be used for multiple pharmacological options. Factors to consider include efficacy, cost, potential side effects, weight gain, comorbidities, risk of hypoglycemia, and patient preference. Pharmacological treatment should be initiated when glycemic control is not achieved or if HbA1C increases to 6.5% after 2-3 months of lifestyle intervention. Discussion : Therapy with oral medication should be started in conjunction with intensive lifestyle management. The major classes of oral antidiabetic drugs include biguanides, sulfonylureas, meglitinides, thiazolidinedione (TZD) inhibitors, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4), sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) inhibitors, and -glucosidase inhibitors. If the HbA1C level increases to 7.5% during treatment or if the baseline HbA1C is 9%, combination therapy with two oral agents, or with insulin, may be an option. Although this drug can be used in all patients regardless of their weight, some drugs such as liraglutide may have distinct advantages in obese patients compared to lean diabetics. Conclusion : Inhibitors is for patients not receiving an intensive insulin regimen. According to current guidelines, HbA1C levels should be assessed regularly in all diabetic patients. The frequency of HbA1C testing is flexible and depends primarily on the patient’s response to therapy and the physician’s judgment. HbA1C testing is performed at least every 6 months for patients who are meeting treatment goals.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122005560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known to have a male preponderance and encountered in the older age group. The lesions are locally aggressive, and onset of symptoms is gradual. Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma typically has 2 microscopic components, whereby the low-grade cartilaginous lesion is seen with a high grade sarcomatous component with an abrupt transition between the 2 zones [1]. This pattern of dedifferentiation occurs in about 10% of chondrosarcomas [2,3]. The femur is involved in about 30% of these lesions and majority of the tumors are seen beyond the sixth decade [1]. We report an unusual pattern of dedifferentiation occurring in a chondrosarcoma where the pattern of dedifferentiation was that of a low-grade spindle cell sarcoma.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"27 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130200622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays it is known that the chloride ion is the most abundant inside the body and it has been implied in important biological processes, such as: cell volume regulation, transepithelial fluid transport, muscle contraction and neuroexcitation. Furthermore, within the cell, it participates in endosomal, lysosomal and Golgi acidification. Particularly, voltage-gated Cl- channels-3 (ClC-3) mediate extra and intracellular ionic homeostasis and acidification of intracellular compartments. ClC-3 are expressed in most tissues, including brain, retina, pancreas, intestines, epididymis, kidney, liver, skeletal muscle, and heart, so their participation in diseases such as gastric cancer, cervical cancer, endometriosis, osteoporosis and cardiac hypertrophy has been studied.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129470846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.7 has been proposed as a possible therapeutic target against pain, due to the evidence that certain mutations in the gene that encodes it are associated to chronic pain or the absence of this, depending to its nature. Since the early 1980s, the production, consumption and world trade of meat has increased considerably and these changes are related to world population growth, urbanization and rising domestic incomes in developing countries, as well as changes in consumption patterns, which trigger a global increase in demand for food of animal origin. In general terms, “quality” can be defined as the extent to which a product or service meets consumer expectations over time. When referred to meat quality, it focuses on hygienic aspects during its production, to its nutritional value or to the organoleptic or technological characteristics. The conservation of food implies the action to keep it with the properties or desired nature for as long as possible. The application of cold in meat, as the most used method for its conservation, is mainly due to two purposes: to preserve the initial food quality, with a view to its consumption, and to keep it at an adequate temperature for its maturation and the chemical and biochemical reactions that determine its quality and shelf life. The shelf life of food can be defined as the maximum time in which food maintains its nutritional, sensory, microbiological and safety qualities at levels accepted by consumers. Refrigeration and freezing are the most used traditional methods to preserve meat, based on the application of cold to the carcasses. The main objective is to avoid decomposition due to bacterial alteration.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134193014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study compared the antimicrobial susceptibilities of 56 Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates collected from 28 Romanian pediatric patients over 15 years (2005-2020) and investigated the resistance to the usual antibiotics and the incidence of multidrug resistance Pseudomonas aeruginosa . The susceptibility rates to antimicrobials were as follows: Gentamicin 50%; Cefepime 53.6%; Ceftazidime 64.3%; Amikacin 67.9%; Ciprofloxacin 75%; Piperacillin 75%; Piperacillin-Tazobactam 82.1%; Meropenem 82.1% Levofloxacin 89.3%; Colistin 100%. Half of the patients gain antibiotic resistance during the study period. We noticed the most significant increase in antibiotic resistance for Ciprofloxacin, 14.3%, followed by Meropenem 10.8%, Ceftazidime 10.7%, and Piperacillin 10.7%. Multi-drug resistance Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were identified with a frequency of 25% of 56 samples. 28.5% of patients with multi-drug resistance Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were identified. Only one patient meets the criteria and can be classified as extensively drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa , sensitive only to Colistin. New therapeutic strategies for the treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections are an immediate necessity.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124942072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
