Moreover, higher nesting score (score 3, the situation in which calf legs and hooves are not visible), a hallmark of bedding sufficiency, can be easily achieved by using deep straw bedding. Also, wheat straw beddings should be deep enough to prevent possible pelvic dislocation in newborn calves. Shortly after birth, calves are unable to stand sturdily and may slip on thin ABSTRACT This article aimed to review and highlight the importance of different bedding management on health, welfare, and growth of young dairy calves. Rearing healthy calves with maximal growth rate is a first goal of any dairy heifer rearing program. Nutrition alongside comfortable environment can optimize growth and health of dairy calves. Bedding for young calves seems to be an important environmental effector of calf wellbeing. Since calves are in direct contact with bedding materials; quality, quantity and type of bedding can greatly impact on their health and growth performance. Bedding management is also critical when disease outbreak and cold weather threaten dairy calves. Adjusting the bedding characteristics (type, quantity, and quality) in any situation contributes to keeping calves healthy. Wheat straw, sawdust, wood shavings, sand and rubber or plastic mats are the most common materials used for bedding worldwide. Understanding advantages and disadvantages of each bedding system can help manage calves less stressfully and thus more gainfully.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"15 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129596576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the incidence of some congenital cardiac disorders such as ventricular septal defect (VSD) in young calves, detection of ASD in Holstein calves has been rarely reported with no distinct picture of the area involved. In the current report, ASD is pictured noticeably which would be an appropriate example for diagnosing it in other cases. Apparently, issues related to cardiac system occur more frequently than expected, however, they are not diagnosed precisely on farm mainly because of inadequate knowledge of such disorders. Young dairy calves are often diagnosed with respiratory distress or fever with weakness and hyperpnea. Severe hyperpnea may be associated with heart defects which can be confused with respiratory diseases and fever in newborn dairy calves. In the current report, the calf was initially diagnosed with respiratory distress. However, further examination of heart beats and sound by palpation of the thorax led to suspect on heart defects. In the physical examination of both sides of the thorax, murmur and trill were clearly diagnosed. The calf died after 48 hours. After necropsy, ASD was identified as the cause of calf death. Calf loss means economic loss. Thus, diagnosing the problem timely can help minimize congenital issues risks and in turn increase calf survival and herd productivity.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128847590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results obtained indicated the dependence of Soybeans on mycorhizal symbiosis. Inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhiza significantly improved the growth performance of Soybean. The height growth increased significantly by 85% after only three months. Shoot production increased by 213% while root biomass increased by 241%. Inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhiza increased plant tissue phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium content. The better growth response of mycorrhizal plants was attributed to improvement in nutrient uptake, especially phosphorous, nitrogen and potassium. Arbuscular mycorrhiza inoculation has a high potential in agriculture as a biofertilizer.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"212 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132652415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, however, there is a substantial trend towards the study of positive psychological processes (e. g. joy, happiness, altruism, or hope) as well as of those factors that make life worth living (e. g. having a sense of purpose and direction in life, goals, or love). The concepts and ideas regarding SWB are being increasingly used to address clinical phenomena, assess organizational climate, and improve quality of social life Diener et al. [6]. Furthermore, there exist solid evidence which indicate that SWB is closely related to success in interpersonal relationships Herbers [7], good work ABSTRACT In recent years, the science of subjective well-being (SWB) has grown significantly. However, the variables that have the greatest impact on this phenomenon are still unknown. From Diener’s SWB theory, the objective of this cross-sectional research was to analyze the relationships between optimism (OP), gratitude (GR), resilience (RE), self-esteem (SE), family support (FS) and friends support (AS) on SWB. Seven scales were applied to 600 Mexican medical and psychology students. Non-probabilistic sampling was used. Structural equations modeling was used to analyze the data. Through maximum likelihood estimation, the model showed a good data fit and was valid for both groups of students. The results are discussed, within the framework of positive psychology, with regard to their practical implications in university contexts. It is concluded that there exists a direct effect of OP, RE, SE, FS, and AS on SWB in both medical and psychology students.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129418411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With regards to neck of femur fractures (#NOF), many cases are managed with an internal fixation approach rather than arthroplasty. National data suggest that hip arthroplasties (THAs) are increasingly being used in preference for hemiarthroplasties (HAs) for intra-capsular #NOF to improve patients function post-op. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to continue building a robust prospective local Revision Registry in order to continue evaluate trends in local data regarding the aetiology and rates of revision hip arthroplasties at Flinders Medical Centre, where the primary arthroplasty was undertaken secondary to trauma. Data was compiled from our own documented records cross-matched with national records. Patients were included if their primary surgery was a HA or THA in the setting of #NOF, who had revision surgeries that were performed within FMC during the time period of 2016-2019. Data were evaluated descriptively with basic quantitative analyses. 455 post-traumatic arthroplasty surgeries were performed within the time frame, 78.9% of which has at our centre. Of 359 HAs performed, five were revised; of 96 THAs performed, two were revised. Revision of THAs occurred earlier, with an average of 2.17 years compared to 2.62 years. Revision of THAs occurred in younger patients, with average age at revision of THAs of 62 compared to 85.5 years. Revision of hemiarthroplasties was mostly performed due to instability of prosthetic components and patient factors, whilst revisions of THAs may have been related to surgical error. Revision of THAs seems less frequent and more related to surgical error and affects younger patients. The development of a specialised Arthroplasty service for THA in trauma may lead to an increased use of THA which is common in other centres and reduce surgical errors. Long term follow-up in the form of a local registry is ongoing and early data shows it to be a beneficial resource to guide local future management principles.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117191918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preservatives, which aim to extend products due to their ability to inhibit the growth and proliferation of microorganisms, are at the forefront of this change. The present study is characterized as an integrative review carried out about the use of essential oils (EO) as a cosmetic preservative, evaluating its effectiveness to replace or complement the current preservative system. The research’s guiding question was: EOs are effective as cosmetic preservatives and substitute equivalents for synthetic ones? Twenty-eight articles were selected in the consulted databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scielo). EOs are promising natural preservatives either alone or combined with other EOs and with synthetic preservatives and additives. The results in vitro and cosmetic formulations demonstrated antimicrobial action in a broad spectrum of microorganisms. However, there is no standardization of the methods used to assess the antimicrobial efficacy and few studies with continuity, being necessary to carry out more studies concerning the preservative activity in ready-made cosmetic formulations and in vivo studies with humans using the final product for comparison and, in the future, replacement of synthetic preservatives by the OE.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130570725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most cases, neuro-degeneration of the occipital, parietal, and posterior temporal cortices occurs as a consequence of the Visual Variant of Alzheimer disease (AD). Less frequent etiologies include Corticobasal Degeneration, Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and the Heidenhain variant of Prion disease. It is unknown what predisposes these conditions to present as PCA. Given its rarity and variable presentations, misdiagnosis is common. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman with PCA who was initially undiagnosed. She measurably improved on donepezil and memantine suggesting AD as its pathogenesis.","PeriodicalId":207626,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Biomedical Science","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131650181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
