Different factors contribute to the success or failure of the IT Governance model adopted by the organizations, among which the organizational culture. However, much research addresses this subject following a generic approach, not identifying the relationship with IT Governance. This empirical-exploratory study attempts to identify how the pillars of IT Governance are influenced by the variables that form the organizational culture. Based on a proposed conceptual model, 14 CIOs of Latin American companies, selected for convenience, were interviewed using a semi-structured instrument. The results demonstrated that, according to the perception of these managers, there is a strong influence of organizational culture in the IT Governance model, especially with regard to processes and structure.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"96 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120888251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the level of awareness towards ITG is evident, it is hardly manifested in practice. The purpose of this study is to elicit factors that act as barriers to the adoption of formal ITG practice. This qualitative study consists of 9 semi-structured interviews with the key person in charge of ITG adoption and practice within their respective organizations. The interviews were analyzed using thematic content analysis, guided by themes previously obtained from the literature and from an earlier pilot study. Findings obtained supported previous findings and also reveal new factors noticeably absent from the ITG literature. The findings will provide useful input towards the development of a causal model on barriers to formal ITG practice.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126270810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although social shopping communities have the potential to transform the way online customers acquire knowledge in everyday life, research in information systems has paid little attention to this emerging type of social media. Thus, the goal of this paper is to enhance our understanding of user behavior in this new form of community. We propose and empirically test an integrative theoretical model of customer knowledge contribution based on social capital theory. By analyzing panel data collected over two weeks from 2,251 customers in a social shopping community, we found that reputation, reciprocity, network centrality, as well as customer expertise have significant impact on customer knowledge contribution. These results contribute significantly to the literature and provide important implications for future research and practice.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131099501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Managers must anticipate potential problems of key factors affecting performance. This study explores performance influencing factors and establishes a performance model for comparing performances of technician in Taiwanese public and private colleges (i.e., non-profit organizations vs. profit-making enterprises), respectively, along with the relationships among performance influencing factors. Results suggest that task-technology fit (TTF), core competencies, and professional involvement determine technicians' performance along with technology characteristics. Technician's motivation for achievement motivation and personality traits significantly affect the degree of job involvement and core competency.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127868773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The central issue faced by a manufacturer with the mixed retail and e-tail channels is pricing strategy. In this paper, we investigate the pricing strategies of a manufacturer and a mix of retailers and e-tailers in a two-echelon supply chain with price and service level dependent demands. We compare different pricing options of the manufacturer to discuss its optimal pricing strategy. In addition, we analyse the effects of different manufacturer's pricing strategies on supply chain profit.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114657231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially in low-volume-high-mixture fabrication plants, knowledge discovery in databases is extremely challenging due to complex technology mixtures and reduced availability of data for comparable process steps. Thus, actual research focuses on Data Mining using Machine Learning methods to model unknown functional interrelations. High Density Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition appears to be a process area in semiconductor manufacturing predestinated for application of Data Mining. Promising results have been achieved by implementing statistical models to predict the thickness of dielectric layers deposited onto a metallization layer of the manufactured wafer. This paper describes the approach to predict the layer thickness using a state-of-the-art Machine Learning regression algorithm: Support Vector Regression. The recent extension of Support Vector Machines overcomes pure classification and deals with multivariate nonlinear input data for regression.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124496958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Until recently, there have been limited solutions for enlarging the access to DVBRCS video feeds. With the advent of wireless technologies, such as WiFi, WiMAX, 3G, and LTE, the opportunity to extend the access should be considered. In particular, the IEEE 802.21 standard, known as Media Independent Handover services, could be the solution to not only extending the network beyond the reaches of the forward operating bases, but allowing for no loss in connectivity, due to its ability to conduct seamless handovers, while on the move. In this thesis, a proof of concept evaluation of the compatibility of the IEEE 802.21 standard and the DVBRCS system, using an open source implementation, is presented. This work is to determine if the standard is to be a viable solution for extending the services of DVBRCS to forward deployed units via wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116261420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address our research question, we use a unique and very rich dataset containing actual market transaction data for approximately 7,000 pay-per-bid auctions. Our research design allows us to isolate the impact of aggressive bidding, used in an attempt to signal a high valuation to deter other auction participants, on the probability of winning an auction. We analyze more than 600,000 bids placed manually by approximately 2,600 distinct auction participants. We find a strong and significant positive effect of aggressive bidding on the total number of bids placed, and on the total number of participants in an auction. The strong and significantly negative effect of aggressive bidding on the individual probability of winning an auction supports the finding that aggressive bidding is ineffective as a strategy for deterring competitors in an online auction.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128915963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
