In the LoCoMedia project, researchers, newspaper representatives and readers/users have co-created innovative user generated content (UGC) services. Using a Living Lab approach with the user in focus in a real life setting, we have experimented with a variety of ways of involving different stakeholders in nine experimental UGC projects. The study concludes that careful recruitment, face to face meetings as a compliment to online activities, heterogeneous participant groups, feedback and careful selection of a flexible online platform are important aspects for involving different stakeholders in co-creating innovative processes.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129433480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mergers and acquisitions, new regulations, rapidly changing technology, increasing competition and heightened customer expectations mean companies must become more responsive to changing demands, i.e., become more agile. This move to agility through innovation has been referred to as the \"innovation-services-based economy.\" If properly applied, 'service oriented' concepts and \"service systems\" can support the agility organizations are seeking.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129988267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This capacity is not evenly distributed, and has reached levels of operational importance in many utility balancing areas. Earlier research has shown that the ability to forecast production from these resources over important operational time horizons - from an hour to a day ahead - is a key for minimizing integration impacts. In this paper, the current state of renewable generation forecasting is described, along with the scientific challenges, existing and emerging applications, and prospects for the future.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129066096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large pool of university computer programming course undergraduate and graduate students was paired into three distinct pair categories: male-male, male-female, and female-female. All pairs performed pair programming tasks under a controlled lab environment. The pairs' final outputs in the categories of code productivity and code design were quantitatively measured, and the post-experiment questionnaire was also measured. The results revealed that the male-male pairs had the highest scores and female-female pairs had the lowest scores in both code categories, but not significantly. In the post-experiment questionnaire, the communication and compatibility levels showed significant differences between the three different pair categories. The male-male, female-female pairs or same gender pairs had significantly higher levels than the male-female or mixed gender pairs. Additionally, the female participants particularly voiced gender-biased concerns about collaborating with male partners in doing the pair programming task.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129297518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique facilitates managerial decision-making and strategy formulation. However, the process for RS-based rule induction is complex and computationally intensive. Moreover, operational databases that are used to run the day-to-day operations, thus large volumes of data are continually updated within a short period of time. The infrastructure required to analyze such large amounts of data must be able to handle extreme data volumes, to allow fast response times, and to automate decisions based on analytical models. This study proposes an Incremental Rough Set-based Rule Induction Agent (IRSRIA). Rule induction is based on creating agents for the main modeling processes. In addition, an incremental architecture is designed, to address large-scale dynamic database problems. A case study of a Home shopping company is used to show the validity and efficiency of this method. The results of experiments show that the IRSRIA can considerably reduce the computation time for inducing decision rules, while maintaining the same quality of rules.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130550898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Success in these two areas holds the potential to reduce theory clutter in IS and related social sciences. As a proof-of-concept, we identify theory domains that share ancillary variables or functional/structural components, using a 20-year sample of construct-based quantitative research published in core journals of the IS discipline. Identification of shared variables provides possible extension and integration development that will reduce theory fragmentation and may lead to discovery of fundamental unifying processes that underlie phenomena across disciplines.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130645077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we argue that conflict should be treated as part of the process and not as an antecedent or post-facto analysis to VT performance. We propose the concept of conflictual balance, grounded in structural balance theory (SBT) [12], to study the complex relationship between conflict and VT performance. Our paper proposes to answer the following research questions: \"do virtual teams develop structural stability over time\" and \"is there a relationship between structural stability, conflict, and virtual team performance within a project?\" As our paper is a research in progress, it is broken into two sections: a theoretical section and empirical section. The empirical section proposes a new research model that will be tested as a next step in the research process.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130763050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a pilot study conducted on third graders where a series of AR contents about Natural and Social Sciences have been used as a teaching tool. The main objective of the application is to help the students to learn complex concepts that present a difficult understanding. A user centered approach was followed to create the AR contents, where several teachers collaborated on its definition. The AR application combines 3D models and animations, mini games and quizzes. An evaluation of the educational contents was made from the point of view efficiency (academic achievement), usability and motivation. Results confirm that the use of desktop AR has had a positive impact on the learning and teaching process and reinforce the vision of AR as an affordable and feasible technological tool to support the students' learning activities.","PeriodicalId":207610,"journal":{"name":"2013 46th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132483524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
