There is concern that completed suicides have increased in addition to the observed increase in suicide attempts.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>The study is based on the police crime statistics (01/2017 to 12/2022) of three federal states in Germany, representing 13% of Germany's overall population. Suicide counts and rates for the child, teenage, adolescent, and young adult age groups were compared between the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods using chi-squared tests.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>860 people under age 30 died from suicide. Suicide rates did not differ between the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods in any of the age groups studied.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>So far, there has been no discernible increase in suicides among young Germans. Individuals hospitalized for suicidal ideation and behavior face an increased risk of suicide following discharge. This study investigates the extent to which outpatient treatment services are utilized the first 6 months after discharge and whether men and women differ in this regard.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>The study examines data of 124 individuals (with suicide attempts (lifetime), 59.7% female) on the use of outpatient treatment services in the 6 months after inpatient treatment.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>37.9% (N=47) of individuals reported not having used any treatment services at all. Men were significantly less likely to make use of the services.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Members of a group with an increased risk of suicide, to a large extent, fail to make use of outpatient treatment services. The number of treatment days in the IG was significantly lower than in the CG. In the IG, psychiatric services at the outpatient clinic were used significantly more often for the first time than in the CG.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The present study suggests that IEHT is superior to inpatient treatment in terms of the risk of inpatient readmission and the duration of inpatient treatment days. There is an extensive literature on predictors of such premature termination concerned with factors established before treatment.</p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>The aim of this paper is to present predictors of premature termination that become apparent during the course of therapy.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>We conducted a systematic literature search and included 16 publications.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Patients and therapists rated impulsivity/aggressiveness, substance use relapses and a lack of patient-therapist relationship as negative predictors. {"title":"[Effectiveness and Cost-Effectiveness of Individual Placement and Support (Ips) in Germany - A Controlled Trials with Individuals with Psychosis].","authors":"Daniel Nischk, Uwe Herwig, Simon Senner, Brigitte Rockstroh","doi":"10.1055/a-2165-8728","DOIUrl":"10.1055/a-2165-8728","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To establish the effectiveness of Individual Placement and Support (IPS) to integrate people with mental illness into the general labor market, controlled comparisons with usual rehabilitative practice in terms of employment rates and cost-effectiveness are needed.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>20 IPS participants with psychoses (primarily schizophrenia spectrum disorders) were compared with 20 controls who were offered usual rehabilitative practices in adjacent counties (rehabilitation as usual, RAU) over 18 months.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>IPS was significantly superior to RAU on all job-related criteria with moderate to high effect sizes, with no differences in absenteeism, hospital days, or dropout rates. {"title":"[Cantonal Differences in The Implementation of Involuntary Admission in Switzerland].","authors":"Matthias Jäger, Florian Hotzy, Rafael Traber, Stéphane Morandi, Andres Ricardo Schneeberger, Manuela Spiess, Regula Ruflin, Anastasia Theodoridou","doi":"10.1055/a-2133-4084","DOIUrl":"10.1055/a-2133-4084","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To examine sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of persons hospitalized in five psychiatric hospitals from regions with different structural characteristics compared with persons hospitalized voluntarily.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Descriptive analyses of routine data on approximately 57000 cases of 33000 patients treated for a primary ICD-10 psychiatric diagnosis at one of the participating hospitals from 2016 to 2019.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Admission rates, length of stay, rates of further coercive measures, sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the affected persons differ between the different regions.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>There are considerable regional differences between regulations and implementation of the admission procedures and the sample.
