It aggregates many distributed energy resources (DERs) and loads together as an autonomous entity. As the penetration of DERs is increasing and their characteristics are very distinct, the control of DERs in microgrid is still a complex task. In this paper, a multi-agent system (MAS) approach, as a branch of distributed artificial intelligence methods, is introduced for DERs control in microgrid. The DER units and loads are classified and three types of agents, namely, the regional agent (RA), the local agent (LA) and the service agent (SA) are also defined. Two-layer control strategies are established to achieve local autonomy and global optimization respectively, operating in both grid-connected mode and island mode. Generation/load forecasting and schedule of loads shedding are also discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114987509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As load demands increase greatly and carbon emission cap policy is implemented, reserve market will suffer from both poor reserve resources and extreme price strike. In this paper, a novel philosophy is presented which is called demand side reserve (DSR) based on demand response (DR) considering carbon emission trading (CET) under smart grid. Firstly, DSRs will be classified into three types by their characteristics and clearing cost models of them are given respectively. CET approach is employed here to describe an opportunity cost of DSRs and encourage customers to participate into carbon emission reduction. Secondly, a DSR-scheduling framework is developed which could realize the carbon emission quotas circulation from demand side to generation side under the CET system. Finally, simulation on a test system is used to illustrate the benefits of the proposed view.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114593532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subsequently, the graphic characteristic of the main electrical connection in power plant or substation is extracted as three types: single branch, two branches in-parallel and multi-branches in-parallel, and an unified principle for the formulation of connected routes among arbitrary two nodes in wiring connection is also proposed as the cornerstone for the novel method. Thirdly, a novel method of substation configuration is established based on the set of connected routes among arbitrary two nodes, and by mean of taking the route state as variables, the value of connected routes set is used to directly determine the element in corresponding place of the adjacent matrix. Finally, the example results show that the new method is able to finish the original topology analysis and track the state status of switches more accurately and rapidly.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134407078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the algorithm of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and entropy are developed, and variation trends of spectral entropy characteristics are analyzed in the case of inrush currents and internal fault currents. EMD algorithm is used to conduct the accurate location of current breaks and the spectral entropy is calculated for all of the states. The advantages of the method are little computation, reliable and quick operation. The results of dynamic analog testing confirmed that the method is able to clear the internal fault reliably and quickly. Moreover, compared with the second harmonic restraint principle, the proposed algorithm has better performance.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133093245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, reclosing on to a permanent fault can adversely affect the system stability and damage generators and other equipment connected to the line. To solve this problem, a new algorithm for improving the single-phase adaptive autoreclosure is presented in this paper. Firstly, primary and secondary arc models are introduced, then a series of simulations are carried out based on the arc models. By analyzing the simulation results, a new method to discriminate between transient faults and permanent faults is proposed. Since fault arcs are associated with transient faults, and the frequent re-ignitions of the secondary arc cause distortions in the line voltage, a reliable single-phase autoreclosure can be achieved by measuring the distortion in the line voltage waveform. In order to improve the distortion detection, Multi-resolution Morphological Gradient (MMG) has been adopted. Finally, numerous simulation results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can be used as an effective tool for realizing the SPAR.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124127553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared with conventional power supply, wind power has strong stochastic volatility. Then the reliability evaluation indices for conventional supply are not suit for wind power. So it is more and more important to research and development the evaluation indices for the reliability of wind power. On the basis of the analysis to factors affecting the wind reliability, four indices are defined, which are wind farm capacity validity coefficient (CVC), wind farm generation intensity coefficient (GIC), wind farm operation security coefficient (OSC), wind farm relative benefit coefficient (RBC). They evaluate the reliability of wind power generation from point of abundance, continuity, security and economic. Addition, this paper proposes defined formula for each index. More importantly, the paper gives operator example which indicates the four indicators as an evaluation system is feasible. The results are qualitative evidence, which demonstrates that compared with conventional power, wind power reliability is low as a power supply. They can be quantitative characterization of difference between wind farm and wind farm, as well as the operation status of a single wind farm. All these indices can be used to indicate the economy and substantial value of wind power, and are helpful for the planning and operation of gird-connected wind farm.","PeriodicalId":206094,"journal":{"name":"2010 5th International Conference on Critical Infrastructure (CRIS)","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129783862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the challenge is how to balance the power supply and load while the power grid is blackout, and the power supply changes to PV power. In response to this question, the anti-islanding strategy is replaced by balancing the PV output and the load shedding in paper to achieve the available maximum power balance in distribution substation. It is achieved by collecting all feeders currents (power supply and feeder outputs), which is realized in the digital substation based on IEC61850. The system scheme and the dynamic emergency control strategy to inverters in PV controller are introduced in paper.
