To securely meet these challenges a reliable observability of the power system is needed. Novel digital measurement equipment such as phasor measurement units (PMU) in transmission and distribution networks and smart meters in low voltage grids deliver the system parameters needed to perform a system state estimation analysis. This paper discusses the use of PMUs to support the operation of virtual power plants (VPP). It focuses on the control strategies for the VSC HVDC transmission necessary to reach a full integration of large offshore wind farms into the power system operation while minimizing the critical situations for the power system operation and guaranteeing the required stability level. The main goal of this investigation is to assess the fault ride through (FRT) capabilities of such complex systems. For this purpose different emergency control strategies for VSC HVDC, such as the reduction of power generation by wind turbines using a voltage based information carrier, will be analyzed. At the lab, using the transformer DC magnetic bias monitoring device, vibration signals of transformer with no-load were tested under DC bias. The vibration signals in different magnetic bias level were analyzed using WPT and the energy eigenvectors were acquired. Based on best practices and available data, several different metrics have been defined. Depending on the methodology involved, three main types of metrics can be identified; namely “topological”; “system theory based” and “simulation based” metrics. The selected methodologies have been applied to the Roma Area electric and communication system. Results from all the different approaches are discussed. All metrics provide quantitative measures of the inter-dependence between both the two systems and their components. In addition to the established metrics, a novel “spectral” metric has been introduced specific for cascade effects. To solve frequency fluctuating problems of wind power integration, this paper proposes an idea that it is possible and reasonable to use HVDC lines with auxiliary frequency control(AFC) to stabilize the frequency fluctuation caused by wind power, which could increase the rate of wind power integration not only, but also reduce intra-region reserve capacity and wind power cost. Furthermore, an improved frequency control strategy of HVDC is proposed. So how to achieve the synthetic grading evaluation of power quality becomes a concerned problem. In this paper, the idea of classified evaluation of power quality is emphasized, and the major differences between the continuous and event-based power quality problems both in the characteristics and time scales are analyzed. In addition, least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) theory is applied to the comprehensive evaluation of continuous power quality. Meanwhile, power supply reliability index is introduced to evaluate the overall quality level of the event-based power quality. On this basis, subjective weighting method is used to achieve the comprehensive evaluation of two types of power quality problems. Due to the complex structure of power transformer, the running state of transform is difficult to be assessed accurately. The parameters of Support Vector Machine (SVM) have significant implications on the classification results. In order to obtain the best classification model, an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is introduced to optimize the parameters of the support vector machine (SVM). The model is based on transformer dissolved gas analysis (DGA) technique as evaluation method, the running states of transformer are divided into excellent, good, normal, attention and fault five levels, where the fault level is divided into low-temperature failure of overheating, medium-temperature failure of overheating, high-temperature failure of overheating, low energy discharge, high energy discharge and partial discharge six categories. One is based on negative sequence voltage compensation, and the other is based on oscillating active power elimination.
