Abstract
As a promising renewable resource, wind power is highly expected to contribute a significant part of generation in power systems in the future, but this also brings new integration related power quality issues due to its unconventional characteristics. To solve frequency fluctuating problems of wind power integration, this paper proposes an idea that it is possible and reasonable to use HVDC lines with auxiliary frequency control(AFC) to stabilize the frequency fluctuation caused by wind power, which could increase the rate of wind power integration not only, but also reduce intra-region reserve capacity and wind power cost. Furthermore, an improved frequency control strategy of HVDC is proposed. The simulation results show that the substitution of wind power frequency control reserves with the HVDC connection is possible without additional equipment and without causing large disturbances in both sides.
