Moreover, this review discusses some of the most widely games used to enhance students' vocabulary acquisition and introduces them to EFL instructors so they can be widely used in their classroom teaching practices. The present review also explores the essential classroom procedures needed for incorporating games in the classroom teaching. It is found that games make lessons' enjoyable to students, minimize students' anxiety, help students recall vocabulary easily and naturally, and bring context to the classroom. The review also revealed that games such as The Sims, and Semantic Boggle are amongst the most widely used games for vocabulary retention. Teachers are advised to use the suitable vocabulary games for teaching vocabulary and link the games with the course content. The focus has been on interactive communicative and task-based teaching methodologies. With the class moving online, there is a need to develop new activities and creative tasks to engage learners in foreign language environment. The present paper highlights the need for language teachers to take the role of facilitator and engage leaners in online-based activities and tasks. The paper also lists some online-based tasks and activities which can generate noticeably greater desire to learn the language and eventually, higher comprehensible language output. Employing a wide range of collaborative project-based tasks gives learners opportunity to develop their vocabulary to express varied concepts, handle authentic language input and gradually the language creeps into learner’s daily life without an intentional effort. The English language proficiency of the second language learners has always been a matter of great concern. Of the four language skills, listening the fundamental skill, remains as one of the most neglected skills in classroom activities. The existing language teaching system in Kerala pays little attention to develop it. When listening comprehension (LC) of the learner is not given the right opportunity to develop it that will lead to poor language proficiency. The focus of this paper is to analyse the listening comprehension needs of English as a second language (ESL) learners in Kerala and to suggest how ICT resources can be used to address them. The paper concludes with the finding that if integrated judiciously and used appropriately, ICT resources can play a great role in developing the language proficiency and Listening comprehension of second language learners. There are many soft skills but to name just a few important ones are like: interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and team management, problem solving skills, analytical thinking, positive body language, creativity, capacity to think logically, strong professional or work ethics and communication skills. Though English is a second language for many people, it can be acquired and mastered through consistent practice and dedication. Speaking English in acceptable pronunciation, possessing vocabulary, clarity of thought, speech and expression are key requirements to master English and to become effective communicator as well. Acquiring soft skills is difficult but one can acquire them through conscious efforts and consistent practice. They help graduates get jobs and feel comfortable and confident in the professional scenario. They are essential qualities for students, teachers, professionals and everyone who wishes to succeed in his or her professional career. For freshers, soft skills help to start a smooth journey from campus to corporate. Nowadays, recruiting firms emphasize more on soft skills than core skills. As the modern workplace is interpersonal, customers also demand soft skills from professionals. It can be said that the future workplace will fully rely on effective communication skills and soft skills. The research paper is an attempt to prepare the list of need-based communication skills and soft skills and provide guidelines on how to acquire them. The effectiveness of language labs in learning a new language has been established in several studies mentioned in this paper. The scope of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness on a cohort of Indian students pursuing Bachelor of Technology in a State Private College, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. The students attend classes once a week for two hours on language learning components based on listening and speaking. For the same cohort of 89 students, there are five evaluations, conducted every alternate week. The evaluations included three spoken or oral evaluation at the beginning of the course, middle and then end. A transcription test based on International Phonetic Alphabet and listening test based on IELTS level 5 were also a part of the evaluation basket. The same set of students taught English via lectures in classroom during the same period for which there were four evaluations. Two sets of data thus obtained, for the same sample. Appropriate statistical test was conducted to analyze the progress students made in a span of six months while taking both courses.
