This evaluation acts as rudder modulator to regulate the gap between field/industry anticipations and the available education. This article introduces statistical analysis for the evaluation and assessment of graduate engineers in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering areas for the quality of education conducted in Shaqra University. A cross sectional study for around 63% of engineering college graduates that practicing engineering work is carried out. A comprehensive and concise questionnaire has been designed to measure the objectives of the study. The study is aimed basically to determine the gap between the theory and application. The quality of conducted education was assessed by the investigation of the effectiveness of elective courses, laboratory courses, graduation projects, industrial training, and English language courses. Yet, the results show that around 70% of the graduates find a significant compatibility between the conducted education and the field, and only 21% of them claim that a reasonable compatibility between their education and industry exist.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127817816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the process is unclear and lecturers are not aware of the process itself. Therefore, studies about the awareness of mentoring in universities such as in University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is deemed important. This paper looks into the awareness level of lecturers in UNITEN about mentoring program. Specifically, the results of an awareness survey to all UNITEN lecturers are presented and analyzed. The survey results demonstrate various levels of knowledge of mentoring, sources of the knowledge about mentoring, respondent's attitude towards mentoring, and all common perspectives concerning mentoring. In particular, they show that mentoring program is becoming familiar to lecturers but proper documentation and peer monitoring are needed to facilitate the progress.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131451259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This situation is further aggravated by the increased application of modern technologies that replace jobs with automated systems. People with migration background in Austria tend to have a lower qualification and corresponding jobs that are in higher danger of being automated. This paper presents the concept of the project ROBIN that employs educational robotics for inspiring young people towards engineering and technology. In this context, a focus is specifically put on supporting young people with a migration background. Also the results of an interim project evaluation are presented and a few lessons learned are discussed.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132908960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The forest is an irreplaceable sanctuary, although currently it is exposed to illegal logging by greedy human beings, and this has significantly affected the forest. As a result of this illegal activity, unhealthy phenomenon has surfaced. Hence, the methodology of this research is concerned about developing a remote monitoring device that could capture critical real-time data, such as temperature, humidity, gaseous content, and fire and rain detection, which could indicate the current and the preserved natural state and habitat in the forest. The prototype was implemented at selected locations in the Royal Belum Forest to monitor and gather data at two phases. The outcomes from this research will be used in the development of a series of games as teaching aids that can make aware our future generation about the depletion of the rainforest and its impact upon the environment.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131996654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, as of now, such collaboration is still rare and needs therefore further investigation. This qualitative case study takes up two main purposes. Firstly, it explores Information Technology (IT) needs and challenges in Mozambique for governmental institutions and universities. Secondly, it examines obstacles, which prevent industry-university collaboration within the context of education in computer science. The focus of this research is to solve industry's problems through increased collaborations with universities, thus strengthening the overall development of the country. Methods of data collection, interviews, observations, and a document analysis were used to gain an insight to the research field. The presented results in this research paper indicate that a lack of Internet and computational resources, project management and limited available funds have been challenging for both sides, governments and universities. Furthermore, current low-tech paper-based systems and insufficient IT skills are obstacles to overcome as well. It is suggested that increased industry-university collaborations, with the support of a university based academic-industrial board, could significantly contribute towards mitigating these challenges in Mozambique.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133415680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project is the result of the implementation of a methodology previously proposed by the Mechatronics Engineering Program of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, IREP. This methodology involved the design and implementation of a robotic system solution by integrating goals planning, teamwork management and technical documentation in order to shape the students for real-life situations. Peru, as a developing country, has been mainly focusing in developing solutions for local problems, most of them aimed to industry. In fact, most of the final undergraduate projects have had an industrial approach. With the goal of encouraging students to test their abilities and develop solutions for worldwide problems, a final project with a humanitarian approach was proposed. First, we present the educational goals that are evaluated through these courses and the solution design goals proposed by the students. Then, the solution is presented with all its design domains. Finally, the achieved results are shown with the conclusions.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128098388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
