Generally, technology of three-dimensional hologram (3DH) involve spatial displays which detaches the display technology from the user and integrate it into the real environment. This type of technology had been introduced with proven advantages for several decades especially in the field of digital art and medicine but yet to be explored in education field. This study takes a meta-analysis approach to review the studies and provide a comprehensive analysis of ten studies from the year 2005 to 2015. These previous papers were analysed qualitatively and summarized according to the uses of 3DH as a visualization tools for teaching in various fields of education. This study shows 3DH is an effective teaching tool in attracting students' attention and enhance their understanding. This was because 3DH can dismantle a complex topic to a simpler form which improves students' comprehension. This study will provide valuable insight for educators to integrate 3DH technology as a replacement for the traditional learning method currently in use.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130269493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, lack of reasoning skills could limit meaningful knowledge creation process during collaborative learning. In order to enhance reasoning skills, clear guidelines for scaffolding are necessary. Vygotsky (1978) suggested that learning must occur within a student-centered environment, where teaching is the result of the co-construction of knowledge. Scaffolding can be provided for students if they encounter difficulty, and if they need to be helped towards the correct path. Clear guidelines from a collaborative reasoning discussion can also provide an opportunity for students to construct knowledge themselves, through the implementation of clear guidelines for scaffolding moves. Waggoner, Chinn, Yi and Anderson (1995) propose that such moves include ‘prompting’, ‘modelling’, ‘asking for clarification’, ‘challenging’, ‘encouraging’ and ‘summing up’. All of these scaffolding moves can assist peers in helping other students to offer ‘data’, provide ‘rebuttals’ and make ‘backings’, and also to take part in collaborative reasoning discussions. Based on this framework, a computer-based learning environment is developed to provide scaffolding to students during collaboration while also putting an emphasis on task division where the system assigns role among students' group members. A pilot testing on the system found that the system assists students to collaborate more effectively and has the potential to encourage participation and improve reasoning skills.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"54 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123523995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has chosen as study case, the teaching of Python language due to versatility, structure and robustness that this language provides in the design and construction of hardware and software elements in devices such as Arduino or Raspberry PI. However, this methodology can be employed in the teaching of other type of programming languages such as C, Java, or Dart. It has selected as educational framework of the methodology some sections of the model known as Stage Self Direct Learning (SSDL) which provides a conceptual base that serves as reference model allowing to build a methodology in which the students will be participant of their own educational process. In order to enhance the learning process in the students, in the structure of course, it has designed an e-learning course taking as platform to ILIAS (Integriertes Lern-, Informations-und Arbeitskooperations-System). It is an open source platform with some features such as Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) resources, forums, surveys, taxonomy services, exercises and assessment. During the development of course, different kinds of resources were created and shared through this platform, these were subject to discussion providing a space for the exchange of ideas and experiences associated with the main topics of this course. The methodology established allowed to encourage the interest of the students in the learning and use of programming languages as likewise using them in the design of projects that require the use of open hardware resources.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126733562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile in education, the sustainability of a program is mainly influenced by the association of all stakeholders. The stakeholders are referred to as the institutions, industries, government and community. In order to achieve sustainability, changes and challenges related to those stakeholders cannot be avoided. This paper investigates how the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Teacher Education Program in Malaysia can be sustained in the 21st Century. A case study has been conducted to look into the changes and challenges faced by the stakeholders. The data collection process comprised four semi-structured interviews with the experts in TVET Teacher Education Program. The findings from the case study indicated that the challenges faced by the stakeholders are inclusive of teachers' attitude towards learning; the perception of the society on TVET as the second class education; lack of partnership between the institutions and the industries; and lack of pragmatic policies in improving the quality of TVET Teacher Education Program.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123146974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most studies have focused on making or strengthening the collaboration through research works between academicians and professionals that may have placed engineering students in less contributing position. This can lead to a significant amount of loss considering students' exposure to industry while in their academic years can provide them and future employers with greater benefits. In this paper, we discuss how engineering final year project (EFYP) undertaken by students can be employed to strengthen university-industry collaboration and at the same time, comprehensively prepare students prior to joining the industry. Data for this study were responses obtained through semi-structured interview from two respondents selected through purposive sampling technique.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124919847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
