We model response to a spatially non uniform time dependent electric field that vanishes on every other QD. Current density induced by such electric field configurations serves as a characteristic of QD coupling in the arrays and, in particular, of the inter QD exciton transport. We observe rapid decay of the QD-QD coupling with the increase of inter QD separation and its complete diminishing at the QD-QD distance comparable with the size of the QD.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"348 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115894063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a methodology for developing sensor device applications that can be directly run on the bare hardware without any need for middleware. Such bare sensor device applications only depend on the underlying processor architecture, enabling them to run on a variety of devices. The methodology is used for developing, designing, and implementing a temperature sensor application that runs on an ARM processor. The same methodology can be used to build other bare machine sensor device applications for ARM processors, and is easily extended to different processor architectures.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125756933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple wireless protocols including the Bluetooth, cellular data network, Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication (NFC) are used to transmit sensor data. An Intelligent Personal Communication Node (iPCN) using an Android smartphone is introduced consisting of sensor data collection, processing, analysis and transmission by the smartphone. Various sensor data are tested including acceleration, temperature and electrocardiography (ECG) data to demonstrate system extensibility. Particularly for ECG sensor data, a QRS detection algorithm for heart beat rate (HBR) calculation is implemented to demonstrate Android system computation feasibility for real-time signal processing. A major advantage of the Android system is the ability to communicate with sensor nodes on-demand and to acquire realtime multiple sensor data simultaneously. The proposed smart sensing system is not restricted to BSN, but also can have applications for any critical environment that requires instantaneous and remotely accessible monitoring system.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"348 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121703564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, an accurate estimation or prediction of interference from secondary users to primary users is essential. In this paper, we tackle the problem of interference estimation in a channel in presence of one PU and multiple SUs. We solve this problem from a novel perspective while taking media access control (MAC) into account. We assume that carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) standard is employed among secondary users, with which the secondary users are prohibited from transmitting once an active user is in their sensing ranges. As a result, the maximum number of simultaneously interfering secondary users is finite, typically ranging from 1 to 4. This considerably simplifies the interference model in cognitive radio networks. We present several cases with possible simultaneously interfering secondary users. Extensive simulations are conducted and results validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach. We hope that this promising approach will shed light on the interference modeling in CRNs.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131046381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In one set of samples, the two materials were grown, on n-Si substrates, with growth temperatures ranging from 25 to 450°C. In the second set, the films were deposited on microscopic glass slides at 150 °C. The optical properties were studied using Ultra Violet-Visible (UV-Vis) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques. Absorbance spectra were obtained using UV-Vis spectroscopy, while transmittance spectra were obtained using FTIR spectroscopy. From the FTIR spectra and employing the Tauc plots, the optical band gaps for both materials were obtained. The values of the optical band gaps for Bi2 Te3 are between 0.22-0.26 eV and for Sb2Te3 are between 0.19-0.28 eV.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131352369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper demonstrates that using a central generation unit for a group of wind turbines and transferring the power of each turbine through hydraulic system increases the efficiency of overall system by 17% reaching maximum efficiency of 90.7%The efficiency enhancement depends on the rotational speed of the hydraulic pumps. Therefore, it is proven that the multiple-turbine hydraulic power transfer system reaches higher efficiencies at lower rotational speed as much as 11.83%. This suggests that the variable speed gearbox can be eliminated from the wind powertrains if multiple turbines are connected to the central generation unit. Computer simulations and experimental results are provided to quantify the efficiency enhancements obtained by adding the second wind turbine hydraulic pump to the system. Adding more wind turbines enhances the integrated hydraulic wind systems' power delivery profile and efficiency.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130358148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 15 transmitters and 15 receivers were spread on the rear, center and front of two vehicles, separated by a definite distance. This multiple antenna system was studied in two different environments. One was in the area of College of Engineering and Mines in the University of North Dakota and other was in the area around Wal-Mart in Grand Forks, ND. The simulation software, Wireless InSite® from Remcom Inc., was utilized. Initially, the response of each receiver with respect to each transmitter was analyzed depending on the received power. Furthermore, adopting the concept of Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO), different combination of transmitters and receivers were used to evaluate the channel capacity of a vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication system in respect to antenna position.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130823491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it provides a noninvasive imaging approach to access the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the biggest drawback of this technology is its incapability of localizing the capsule when an abnormality is found by the video source. Existing localization methods based on radio frequency (RF) and magnetic field suffer a great error due to the non-homogeneity of the human body and uncertain movement of the endoscopic capsule. In this paper, we developed a novel image classification technique to analyze the motion of the capsule. The proposed method segments the endoscopic images into sub-regions and classified them using Kernel Support Vector Machine (K-SVM). Our method performs better than the traditional pixel based classification methods since the quantized feature vector is able to better represent the image due to its natural resistant characteristic against the noises. Besides, the Kernel function is able to map the low dimensional feature vectors to higher dimensional space to form a non-linear decision hyper-plane. Experimental results show that the proposed method is able to reach a high accuracy of 92%.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122119372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
