However, there is one potential problem, which is the unwanted ambient light that causes detector to saturate. This is not a problem at night-time. However, at day time, the sun-light causes a D.C photo current and causes the photo detector to saturate and makes the laser signal undetectable. While optical filters are used to reduce the problem, additional techniques are needed to further reduce this problem. In this paper, we present a differential optical receiver to cancel ambient light and other atmospheric noise. In the proposed technique, two photo diodes are configured as a differential receiver to cancel ambient light. Experimental results are presented to validate the concept.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125728499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most hardware use phase modulated codes over frequency modulated codes because of ease of implementation. In this study, a technique that converts non-binary frequency modulated codes into binary frequency modulated codes is evaluated. To convert from a non-binary to a binary code, a second-order, one-bit sigma delta modulator is used. This sigma-delta modulated code is generated in MATLAB which is then stored in a double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory. A field programmable gate array, which has access to the memory device, transmits the binary waveform and is recorded using an oscilloscope. The recorded data is then filtered using the pulse-echo transducer model of a linear array with a center frequency of 8.4 MHz and a fractional bandwidth of 100% at -6 dB. Pulse compression was then performed using a matched filter, a mismatched filter, and a Wiener filter. Image quality metrics, such as modulation transfer function and sidelobe-to-mainlobe ratio, were used to assess compression performance. Overall, echoes compressed when the excitation is the sigma-delta modulated coded waveform resulted in no measurable difference in axial resolution.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131711839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research proposes a location-based service, which predicts a spatial trajectory based on the current and previous trajectories by using a novel matrix representation. Spatial trajectory prediction can be used in a variety of purposes such as travel recommendations and traffic control and planning, but at the same time, just like most location-based services, the user privacy concern is a major issue. Without rigorous privacy protection, users would be reluctant to use the service. The proposed method is simple but effective and user privacy is rigorously preserved at the same time because the trajectory prediction is performed at the user-side. Additionally, this research is not only useful but also pedagogical because it involves a variety of topics like (i) mobile computing, (ii) mobile security, and (iii) human behavior recognition.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124462220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two different microfiber TLs have been synthesized and tested. A 28.2 mm long microfiber TL was manufactured to demonstrate the wave propagating properties. Once these characteristics were determined, a microstrip TL was prepared by attaching 1oz conducting copper tape to a conformal surface and a similar microfiber TL with the same length and on the same substrate was manufactured. This prototype was then used to compare the propagation characteristics of the microfiber TL to the traditional and well established microstrip TL. Overall, it has been shown that the microfiber TL can support wave propagation in a manner similar to a microstrip TL; however, the attenuation constant appears to be rather large for frequencies above 500 MHz.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114880872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this method, high-pressure hydraulics is utilized to collect the energy of multiple wind turbines and transfer it to a central generation unit. The mathematical model of the gearless wind energy transfer system is described in the previous literature. This paper determines the stability of the mathematical model by careful assessment of the state-space representations of the model of the hydraulic system. The existence of limit cycle is investigated for the nonlinear model and the equilibrium point of the system is calculated. The results show that both linear and nonlinear models are stable.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125168026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using Barker code, the sensors were coded in Barker code number 5 and 13.
