With cell phones becoming ubiquitous computing devices, cell phone localization has become an important research problem, and numerous localization solutions have been proposed. Database Correlation Method (DCM) is a positioning technology that based on a premeasured database of a location dependent variable such as Received Signal Strength (RSS) or Link Quality Identifier. DCM has shown superior in terms of accuracy. Absolute RSS values received from base station change with time, but the relative RSS values which refer to the relations of the RSS values between different base stations are more stable. This study has proposed and implemented a robust technique for both positioning and traffic estimation using Relative Received Signal Strength (RRSS) of GSM. The study has been tested and analysed in Egypt roads using realistic data and Android smart phones. The performance evaluation showed good results. Mean positioning accuracy was about 29 m in urban areas and velocity estimation was about 1 km/h in rural areas.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122606962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional approaches to testing the software revolves around capabilities of a system using various types of testing (e.g., black-box) at various level of software development process. Testing the software for system-wide qualities such as portability is very rare. The research work in this area is very limited. In this work, we discuss the importance of portability testing and attempt to explore a testing approach to test the portability of Scientific Computing (SC) software using different platforms. The main incentive for testing of SC software is that this class of software is challenging because of the elements such as computing environment, computational mathematics, languages, optimization; these elements play significant roles in success or failure of these systems.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123814488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, smaller size slices comes with a small overhead and it some cases worsen its efficiency. To get around this issue, this paper introduces a new technique called resizable- cluster method. This technique allows a cluster, a sequence of slices, to grow by acquiring adjacent empty slices. By integrating this technique to a slice-based flash code, it is able utilize the advantage of small size slices while minimizing the effect of any overhead.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124030055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the fifth stage of the challenge, the robot must climb a wall mounted metal rung ladder. To accomplish this task, the robot must first recognize and localize the ladder prior to grasping and climbing. This paper presents the localization of the rungs using point cloud data from a simulated Microsoft Kinect sensor. It also presents grasping and climbing manuveur using PR2 Robot. The basic approach is to first segment out the background planes. We apply a voxel grid filter to make the computation faster. Then using the RANSAC algorithm, lines that represent the legs and the interior rung midline are extracted. Vertical lines are thrown away and only the lines that represent the rungs are retained. The center of the computed line is our estimated location for the rung centroid. We then can use the centroid information for the PR2 grasping.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117178029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) is one of the techniques used to grow these materials. To study the effect of temperature growth on the properties of the materials, thin films were PLD-deposited on n-type Silicon substrate in Argon (Ar) atmosphere. Substrate temperatures changed from 25 °C to 450 °C. The surface morphology of the films was studied using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and their crystal properties were studied using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. The effect of the growth temperature on the material properties was investigated. AFM scans show how temperature affects the surface morphology. XRD results show that all the films are polycrystalline, and at higher temperatures both films have specific preferred orientations, namely along the (006) and (00 15) planes. Both Bi<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> and Sb<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> were found to have hexagonal crystal lattice structure with lattice constants a = 4.396 Å and c = 30.486 Å for Bi<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> and a = 5.075 Å and c = 30.451 Å for Sb<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub>. The grain sizes of all the films were calculated using Scherrer formula and plotted as a function of temperature for both the materials.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128182557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The substrate temperature (T) was varied from 25°C to 450°C. Impedance spectroscopy and four point probe techniques were used to characterize the electrical properties of the films. Nyquist plots were obtained from these measurements for all the films, and an equivalent circuit model was developed to fit the experimental data. It was found that the values of series resistance obtained from the impedance spectroscopy are consistent with the values of the sheet resistance obtained from the four point probe instrument. The extracted values of the circuit elements explain the role of the grain boundary in determining the film impedance.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125625651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found that the short circuit current density of a tandem cell (Jsc tan) is normally limited by the smaller one of short circuit current densities (Jsc) of the two constituent sub-cells, if this sub-cell has a good performance. But if one of the sub-cells is seriously shunted, the Jsc tan will be limited by another one of the sub-cells, no matter its Jsc is the smaller or larger one. The modeling photovoltaic parameters used in this manuscript are taken from typical amorphous silicon based solar cells, but the basic simulation results should be also applied to other type of multi-junction solar cells.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"80 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121014066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many physics and mathematical models already created and described, some of them are developed many years ago; however, solving the models remains a challenge till date. Due to research advances in computer science field, the challenge can be faced using modern software tools, called multiphysics simulators. In this paper, three systems using finite element method are presented. Structure, concept of solving problems, capacity, performance, and weak and strong sides of these systems are described and discussed. Goal of the analysis is to find bottlenecks in the systems. These bottlenecks are caused by limitations of hardware used, which can be overcome using other technologies. We propose Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) and Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) as the solutions significantly increasing performance of multiphysics simulators.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128197775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Long propagation delay combined with scarcity of energy at the planetary wireless nodes and relays, introduces new dimensions to the congestion control challenge. In this paper, we take advantage of long propagation delay between nodes and propose a novel approach for congestion control. The long delayed channel can be utilized as a memory resource. Instead of dropping the packets due to lack of storage at the intermediate nodes such as satellite or a robotic spacecraft, they are transmitted back to the source. This significantly reduces packet loss, and lowers the per packet energy consumption. In addition, this method provides feedback on the congestion status of the relay node. Consequently, the source is able to dynamically control traffic flow in the source-relay channel until congestion is abated. Two proposed protocols, i.e., (i) reverse channel (without rate control) and (ii) reverse channel with rate control are investigated, and compared with a conventional protocol where no reverse channel is utilized. Extensive simulations are conducted which validate that the performance with reverse channel, especially reverse channel with rate control, far outweigh the conventional approach, in terms of energy consumption, and retransmission per successful packet.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126729098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inherent advantages of permanent magnet AC (PMAC) machines have made it one of the most preferable means of electromechanical energy conversion in a wide range of applications with the transportation industry (ground, sea and air) being a crucial area. Fault detection capabilities in transportation applications are crucial in guaranteeing safe and reliable operation. Increasing regulations require more safety features to be included in HEVs and EVs. Open phase fault diagnostic scheme presented in this paper reduces the burden on the Digital Signal Processor by eliminating RMS calculation of phase current with the means of an RMS generating analog circuit.","PeriodicalId":201202,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Electro-Information Technology , EIT 2013","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124842711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
