Little is known about the effects of hypnosis on well-being, quality of life and personal resources of these patient populations. This narrative review aimed to summarize and discuss existing studies, which investigated improvements in well-being in patients with neurodegenerative disorders following hypnosis treatment. Methods: A narrative review was performed in English databases with specific keywords “neurological disease or illness and hypnosis”, “hypnosis and positive psychology” and “hypnosis and well-being”. Eleven studies (with a total of 178 patients) were found which applied hypnosis for neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.). Results: Hypnosis demonstrated beneficial effects, improving patients’ physical well-being and quality of life. Hypnosis was also found to promote existential well-being and resilience. Conclusions: The majority of studies produced improvement in patients’ well-being. This points to the possibility of applying hypnosis aimed at increasing well-being as a complementary therapy for patients with neurodegenerative disorders. More controlled investigations are needed.","PeriodicalId":19661,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82838027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plastic has recently been shown to be a vector for heavy metal contamination and to cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB). Global concern regarding the health implications is mounting, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) having conducted a risk assessment review of plastics. Whilst knowledge gaps exist, we remain to eat, drink and inhale plastic without knowing what harm it is potentially causing. This paper discusses the scale of global microplastic contamination, the sources and routes of microplastic contamination including inhaling and ingesting plastics, and the potential health implications of plastic bioaccumulation. Research into biotransformation is new and evolving. This paper looks at how plastic is bio transformed and the potential pharmacognostical approaches that have the potential to maxi- mize plastic biotransformation. This paper discusses what is known about how plastic is bio transformed by Phase I cytochrome P450 enzyme group modification and Phase II glutathione, sulphation, glucuronidation and glycine conjugation pathways, and the importance of supporting endogenous antioxidants to assist plastic biotransformation. The paper specifically discusses what is known about how ingested plastics including phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), and inhaled plastics, including dioxins and furans are bio transformed by these processes and what herbal medicine and nutritional supplementation may maximise plastic biotransformation and address plastic bioaccumulation. Ancient and traditional verbal as well as documented sources are treasure of potential medicinal properties of plants. In the new era of science and technology there is increasing need to validate the claims of traditional knowledge database for safe, easily available, cheap, side-effect free healthcare provisions. Some species from the genus Fagonia are supposed to possess important medicinal properties. In this article the proximate analysis and antioxidant activity ( In vivo ) of Alaagoul ( Fagonia cretica L ) ethan- olic extract was evaluated. The proximate analysis for the ethanolic extract of Alaagoul ( Fagonia cretica L ) demonstrated: Moisture 3.0%, Ash 14.0%, protein 27.84%, Ether extracts 2.3%, Fiber 19.0%, Nitrogen free extract 33.86%, Energy 238.6.The administration of Fagonia cretica L ethanolic extract followed by gentamicin improved the activity of catalase and super oxide dismutase.","PeriodicalId":19661,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86536762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nanoscale drug delivery platforms have shown promising clinical results in several types of cancer and inflammatory disorders. Nanoparticles have special characteristics of high surface to volume ratio, size controllability, and can be easily functionalized during synthesis. Cytotoxic therapeutics adsorbed to nanoparticles are used during hormone therapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. which preferentially kill the rapidly dividing cancer cells while minimizing the damage to the normal tissue. The toxic core of inorganic nanoparticles is protected by providing a physical barrier (functional polymers) between the core and the external environment. After linking to poly (ethylene glycol) molecules, the polymer-coated toxic dots did not change their optical and colloidal properties over a broad range of external environment conditions. This spontaneous encapsulation process removes the problems of particle aggregation in physiological buffers.","PeriodicalId":19661,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"92 2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89886862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wide medical use of other related platinum drugs including carboplatin and oxaliplatin further spurred the intense interests of the scientists in the development of metallodrugs. However, it is aware that tumors can be evolved to be resistant to platinum drugs, prompting to develop non-platinumbased metallodrugs. Nowadays, a variety of metal-based complexes have been investigated as agents for various diseases ranging from cancers to neurodegenerative diseases [2]. However, it should be noted that no new non-radioactive metallodrug was approved for medical use after the platinum drugs [3].","PeriodicalId":19661,"journal":{"name":"Online Journal of Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"232 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83824186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
