An analysis of the foreign policy relations between the two countries during this period affirms that their dialogue was mainly conflicting due to different visions of the geopolitical situation and forming a security system in the Central and Eastern Europe region. Fearing the restoration of Russian dominance in the former socialist camp, Poland sought to join Euro-Atlantic and European Union's structures. At the same time, Russia assessed the process of NATO enlargement, which Warsaw actively support, as a threat to its national interests. These two positions led to a permanent worsening of bilateral relations. The Kremlin also aimed to resolve all controversial issues through relations with the United States and Western countries, not perceiving Poland as an equal partner. It has been found out that the Polish authorities were considering the possibility of establishing relations with Russia through the development of trade and economic relations and solving problems in the field of historical memory. Significant changes for warming in relations appeared when Russian President Vladimir Putin proclaimed the course of Europeanization of the Russian Federation and its rapprochement with Euro-Atlantic structures in the first years of the 21st century. However, a new factor in the worsening of relations was the political struggle between Warsaw and Moscow to influence Ukraine and Belarus. In particular, the Orange Revolution events showed the significant involvement of both countries in Ukraine's processes and the desire to gain a dominant influence in resolving the political crisis. At the same time, the victory of the Polish-backed forces meant a geopolitical defeat for the Kremlin and thus created a serious conflict in bilateral communication.\u0000\u0000Keywords: Republic of Poland, Russian Federation, NATO, foreign policy, geopolitics.

A set of theoretical issues related to the study of the concept of verbal predicate and the knowledge of the role of the object in the structure of expression at the present stage of linguistics development is generalised. It is shown that the relevance of the paper is determined by its connection with the fundamental problem of interaction of paradigmatics and syntagmatics of language units, and is due to the lack of comprehensive semantic-functional studies of relations of verbal predicates with their objects based on the Ukrainian, Polish, and English languages separately, as well as in the contrastive aspect. The verbal predicates of Ukrainian, Polish, and English are characterised according to reference-taxonomic classes of the names of objects, each of which represents one or another physical property of the substance. It was determined that the most represented group was fl uidity (29,5 % in the Ukrainian language, 24,1 % in the Polish, 23 % in the English of the total number of units), the least verbal predicates form the gaseousness group (2,6 %, 5,5 %, 4,6 %). It is observed that the functional correlation of referentially specialised verbs with the names of their objects is quite broad; it can be both general and maximally determined, so within the studied predicates, the following groups of verbs were distinguished: 1) verbs of non-specifi c specialisation, generally refl ecting a particular physical characteristic of the substance; 2) verbs of absolute specialisation, refl ecting the only possible type of the substance; 3) verbs of doublet specialisation, the semantics of which is a characteristic of the substance. It is shown that certain functional-onomasiological groups of verbs, refl ectively disposed to the materiality of the object in all its manifestations, do not constitute a rigid organisation.

His interest in that region was not accidental, because he had Kholm and Pidlashshia roots. The influence of Prof. M. Hrushevskyi on the formation of I. Krypiakevich as a historian, his first papers on religious and cultural life in the Kholm region in the XIX century in Memoirs of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and scientific work in society are emphasized.\u0000\u0000An extremely serious study of the Kholm region was conducted during World War I, especially after the successful Austro-German occupation of the Kholm region, parts of Volhynia, Pidlashshia, and Polissia in the summer of 1915. It is noted that in the reports "On Ukrainian Affairs in the Kholm Region", "On Church Relations in Northwestern Ukrainian Lands", "On Church Affairs in the Kholm Region", "On the Need for Ukrainian Schooling in the Occupied Ukrainian Lands", the historian stated the importance of the Kholm Region for Ukraine.\u0000\u0000The need to carry out Ukrainization of the region was emphasized, for which it was recommended: to gain real power locally; to form the Ukrainian Church - to restore the GCC, to de-Russify the Orthodox Church; to create a Ukrainian school by training personnel from the local population; establish examplar educational institutions in larger cities and villages as soon as possible; publish school textbooks; to restore the activities of educational and economic organizations.\u0000\u0000Much attention is given to the historian's work in the Bureau of Cultural Assistance for ensuring the development of national and cultural life, primarily, schooling, in the Ukrainian lands occupied by the Central Powers. The resistance to the aspirations of the Ukrainians by some part of the Poles and the Austrian military and governance factors have been revealed. The destruction of Ukrainian lands in 1915 by the retreating Russian troops and the displacement of almost the entire Ukrainian population of the Kholm region deep into Russia are shown.\u0000\u0000It is pointed out that the scholar recreated the fate of public, scientific, and religious figures of the Kholm region, who put up a persistent resistance to Russification and Polonization of the region, first of all, Greek Catholic bishops Metodii Terletskyi, Yakiv Susha, and Maksymilian Ryll.\u0000\u0000The professional assistance of I. Krypiakevich and other figures of Halychyna to the Ukrainian delegation at the Brest Peace Conference, regarding Ukraine's western borders, was emphasized, which gave a positive result for Ukrainians in the negotiations between the People's Republic of Ukraine and the Quadruple Alliance. Being based on the rich historical data the conclusion has been made that on the territory of the WUPR during the first four months of its existence two general and a number of local partial mobilizations of male population were taken. It made possible for the Military Forces to be provided with human resources to a greater or lesser degree. The mobilization process as a complex of all necessary actions both in the center and periphery was not always well-organized, effective and well-planned, had certain differences in different districts, indicating a number of problems with readiness of men to defend the republic with arms as well as with their trining, equipment and use of recruits that was connected with state discipline violation, acute deficit of authority staff, improper work of the expected organs, their miscalculations and loss of control over the part of the Ukrainian territory, and the last but not the least the complexities of the state and military construction in the WUPR.\u0000With time and experience mobilizing structures that lacked professional training and responsibility fulfilled their tasks at the more or less satisfactory level resulting in the number of Military Forces of not less than 11-12 thousand members. At the same time negative phenomena connected with the work of state structures as to organization and conducting of the forced mobilization of men to the troops at the level: center – military region – military district – community. Lack of the patriotic learning of the adults also produced its negative effect.
