The system employs the direct-sequence spread-spectrum technique. The transmitted wideband probe signal is an m-sequence with 511 chips phase-shift keying (PSK)-modulated onto a 1.75-GHz carrier. Due to the chip duration of 22.7 ns, the system is able to detect differences in path length approximately=7 m. The correlation is performed by a SAW-convolver with 16 mu s integration time, delivering measurements of excess delay up to 10 mu s in the present configuration.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":193917,"journal":{"name":"[1991 Proceedings] 6th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130085270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to erroneous path discarding suboptimum breadth-first algorithms like the M-algorithm fail at poor signal-to-noise ratio because all youngest path symbols are weakly valued by the slight amount of energy at the beginning of the channel impulse response. The method of metric forecast estimates the metric which a path will achieve, when the current youngest symbol arrives at a main energy section of the impulse response and thus reduces the problem in path selection. Simulation results show that a simple decision feedback forecast algorithm is sufficient.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":193917,"journal":{"name":"[1991 Proceedings] 6th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131259290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
