Consistency checking on expert systems with rule-based knowledge representation is focused on through the application of a formal validation and verification methodology. The selection of the most adequate class of Petri nets for each particular problem, namely stochastic and relation nets, allowed the use of the same family of formal tools for the modeling, validating analysis, and simulation phases.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":193917,"journal":{"name":"[1991 Proceedings] 6th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129834742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two classes of CACE tools are distinguished. (1) The language-oriented CACE tools are universal in the sense of supported problems as well as in the sense of supported methodologies. (2) The non-language-oriented CACE tools which are based on simpler dialogues, e.g. menu and form-fill-in dialogues, support only some classes of problems and methodologies. Therefore, they are specialized to some extent. A personal view of the selection of CACE tools is given. It is based on three kinds of control problems, i.e. exotic, difficult, and ordinary ones, which play a crucial role in problem solving.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":193917,"journal":{"name":"[1991 Proceedings] 6th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"86 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113996333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
