A free access website www.histologia.unb.br has been developed by our research group to assist histology classroom teaching at University of Brasilia. Over two semesters, students evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively the website as a tool in their learning process. Website has been received good acceptance by students which approach it during classrooms or in their study times to supplement microscopical classes and as a source of study for assessments. The suggestions collected from histologia.unb.br users were analyzed and mostly incorporated in the website improvement actions. It is noteworthy that the diversity of educational methodologies applied over two semesters was also very well accepted by the majority of students when impact of these methods were analyzed on their individual learning processes. This opinion only strengthens our conviction that it is important to diversify educational resources in cellular diversity teaching, independently if it is a virtual or a face-to-face resource.","PeriodicalId":191188,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Computers in Education","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126578066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this pretension, a Distance Higher Education’s panorama is initially presented, related to the implementation of public politics from this educational field. Stands out the relevance of analyzing the possibilities of effectiveness of this education and learning process and the use of the TelEduc’s tools by the teachers. Such analysis had as a theoretical reference the concept of symbolic mediation by Vygotsky. To that, there were made semi structured interviews with 10 professors from the course that, later, where qualitatively analyzed, having the Content Analysis by Bardin as a basis. The analysis show us that the experience and conception from the teachers reveal an education modality in consolidation, with some difficulties, but also with some expectations and results.","PeriodicalId":191188,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Computers in Education","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127605437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Learning Management System (LMS) is essential to dispatch distance learning courses to students. A LMS typically stores large volumes of data, recording in detail the activities performed by students. These data can be used to discover relevant information that can help teachers in the management of the teaching-learning process. In this study, by using data mining techniques, we investigate how to obtain inferences about the performance of students in distance learning courses based on data obtained from a Learning Management System. Some experiments conducted in this research indicate the viability of this proposal, achieving accuracy rates between 73% and 80% in estimates students’ academic performance.","PeriodicalId":191188,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Computers in Education","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134321742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used one sample of n = 758 students, obtained by a cluster sampling plan (clusters being the three courses), which used methodology CAL and other sample of n = 449 students, from the three courses which used traditional methodology pencil-and-paper. We concluded: (1) that the negative ATM (liking or disliking Math), influenced their performance in the discipline of Quantitative Methods; (2) the same not happened with their performance in the Statistics and Data Analysis at University, using CAL; (3) finally, we compared performances after using the two methodologies, with and without CAL, and we conclude that mean of students performance when use methodology CAL is higher than mean of students’ performance from methodology pencil-andpaper.","PeriodicalId":191188,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Computers in Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132303064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has implied on more complex systems and on the need to better integrate them on Web environments. This is the case of Interactive Learning Modules (iLM), a family of educational systems that can be integrated to Learning Management Systems. However, the lack of quality on development process can disturb potential benefits of using these learning tools, such as when the system behaves unexpectedly or when it takes a long time to fix this flaw. In order to reduce these problems, this work proposes a Software Product Line (SPL) for iLM, as a systematic development method. We present the design process of SPL and the creation of two iLM used to evaluate the influence of the SPL on this process. The evaluation showed better perception of productivity, code quality and programmers' satisfaction. Another contribution is an application framework, available as free software to improve the creation of new iLM.","PeriodicalId":191188,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Computers in Education","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126466803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
