There are many factors that may be responsible for this in which the curriculum used to teach the students is inclusive. This issue has not been adequately investigated. This study therefore analysed the effects of curriculum on the performance of Architecture students in Building structures in Southwestern Nigerian public Universities, with a view to improving on the performance of the students. The study employed descriptive survey. Five public universities approved by the National Universities Commission and Architects Registration Council of Nigeria namely: FUTA, LAUTECH, OAU, UNILAG and OOU were purposively sampled. The curricula of these selected universities were collected and reviewed with past examination questions and results on Building structures courses. The study revealed that curricula of all selected schools were in line with NUC and ARCON standards. The questions given to students’ during examinations were also standards and in line with the contents in the curricula in all selected universities. The study also revealed that the performance of the students in the courses was generally low across the selected universities. The study concluded that the curricula of schools selected are standard and good to train the students but should be re- evaluated to provide better alliance with the studio works (Architectural designs). The study recommended that topics not vital or relevant for students’ development in the contents should be removed to reduce overloading of works on students. There is need to reduce calculations or reduce calculations given to students’ during examinations to improve the performance of the students. Finally, periodical review and updating of curriculum are recommended to broaden the students’ knowledge in order to train high quality, talented students in Architecture and to meet the present and future trend development globally.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":" 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, there is a growing body of empirical research indicating the changes in second language learning motivation in different grades at the same or different schools (Chambers, 1999; Kim, 2011, 2012a, b; Lamb, 2007; Williams et al., 2002). The findings of previous studies have mostly shown that student second language learning motivation increases with increasing school grades. Do¨rnyei (2000) suggested that concentrating on the time dimension of second language motivation is crucial for comprehending the second language motivation of students. However, the temporal variations of second language motivation, particularly motivational changes at different Chinese high school grades, have not been sufficiently emphasized by second language motivation researchers, therefore, this quantitative research investigated the changes in Chinese high school students’ English learning motivation from Grade 10 to Grade 12. An English learning motivation questionnaire was used and administered to 3000 students from Grades 10 to 12 in public high schools across mainland China, and employed the reliability analysis and analysis of variance to analyze quantitative data. The statistical results revealed that Grade 12 students ranked highest in English learning motivation, followed by Grade 11 and Grade 10 students. Furthermore, the college entrance examination had a positive impact on Grade 12 students' motivation to learn English.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"8 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139275103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two research objectives, two research questions and one research hypothesis guided the study. The population of the study consisted of all the 2,722 lecturers in the seven tertiary institutions in Imo State, Nigeria. Random sampling technique was used to select 100 lecturers each from four out of the seven tertiary institutions. The instrument for data collection was a self –developed 10-item questionnaire entitled: Questionnaire for integration of ICT (QIICT). Test retest method was used to ensure the reliability of the instrument. A reliability coefficient of 0.8 was determined for the instrument using the Pearson's Product Moment Correlation. Mean was used to answer the research questions while ANOVA was used to test the hypothesis. The study found out that the extent of integration of ICT facilities for teaching and learning by lecturers in tertiary institutions in Imo State is still low even in this era of insecurity where it is necessary for lecturers interact with the students while they are at home. It also found out that the extent of application of ICT facilities did differ significantly among the institutions and that factors such as epileptic power supply and lack of ICT facilities are among the factors that militate against the application of ICT facilities by lecturers.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139271801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample size comprised sixty-three science secondary school teachers in Muhanga district that were selected purposively to participate in the study. A descriptive research design was used and data were collected using an online designed survey using google form. Teachers Scale Questionnaire for the use of Instructional materials and students’ exhibited attitudes questionnaire each contained seven affirmative statements were used as the research tools. Participants’ responses were based on the five point Likert scale to disclose their perceptions in relation to the topic being investigated. The findings from Pearson’s Product Moment Correlations (r) indicated that constructs used were strongly correlated, moderately correlated, and few were weakly correlated. Use of illustrations, use of photographs and visual aids to demonstrate concepts enhance students’ remembering and retention of instructions therefore the variables exhibit strong correlations (r = .923; .803). Use of laboratory equipment and reagents during experimentation, use of models and drawings to illustrate concepts exhibited a moderate correlation with students’ classroom participation (r = .449; r = .785). Creativity and innovation and integration of audio-visual aids into lessons were strongly correlated (r = .947). Strong correlations were found between use of tech-tools during classroom practices (r = .871), use of a variety of instructional materials (r = .901) and creativity and innovation. Interestingly, use of printed materials, visual aids, and audio-visual aids lead to improved students’ classroom interaction, and was strongly correlated with teachers’ integration of audio-visual teaching and learning aids into lessons (r = .889). The findings of this study constitute the basis to validate the relationship between teachers’ use of instructional materials and students’ attitudes in the learning process. We therefore recommend teachers to maximize the use of variety of instructional materials during classroom practices.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139272288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As educational institutions seek to prepare students for success in an increasingly competitive and complex world, they recognize the need to not only teach academic content, but also to develop students' socio-emotional skills, character and values such as ethics and integrity, honesty and truthfulness. In universities, there have been cases of students involved in exam malpractices, such as copying, doing exams for others, poor study practices, and weak adherence to ethical conduct and integrity. Besides, a notable proportion of the undergraduate students tends to deviate from positive behaviours upon entering campus life which affects their academic performance. This study, by using quantitative and qualitative research methods, descriptive design, and purposive sampling of 80 students and 40 teaching and non-teaching staff, examined the role of staff in shaping the behaviour of undergraduate students at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, main campus, Nairobi, for sustainable academic performance. Questionnaires were administered by the researchers to collect data from respondents. The results showed that the participants strongly agreed with the notion that efficient classroom management plays a crucial role in creating a conducive learning environment and enhancing student behaviour. It was also found that role modelling has an influence on the students’ behaviour for sustainable academic performance. Moreover, respondents strongly agreed that students' guidance and counselling played a significant role in shaping their behaviour. Besides, the results showed that the attitudes of students have a considerable influence on their behaviour, making it essential to address negative attitudes to encourage desirable conduct. The study recommends that the institution should implement regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback. The University should identify individuals with a track record of academic and personal success to serve as positive role models for the students. Staff training initiatives that prioritise the development of effective communication skills should be implemented. Involving students in developing and implementing initiatives related to behaviour change for sustainable academic performance is highly recommended.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125131380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three specific purposes posed based on the proxies of inflation related to the indirect costs of studying which are transportation, feeding and accommodation guided the study. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Population was made up of 1065 Business Education undergraduate students from year 1 through to year 4 in the four tertiary institutions in Rivers State offering the programme during the 2022/2023 academic session. Sample size consists of 50% of the entire population which was 534. Proportional stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample size. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaire and secondary data was obtained from the published National Bureau of Statistics monthly CPI transportation, housing utility and food for Rivers State. The instrument was validated by two experts, one expert of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, and the other of Business Education all from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE). Test retest method was used to determine reliability of the instrument and Pearson Product Moment Correlation was calculated to obtain r value of 0.86. Data collected were analysed using Simple Linear Regression Model (SLRM) to answer both the research questions and test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that inflation proxies such as CPI transportation and CPI housing utilities positively influenced Business Education undergraduate’s ability to incur indirect cost (transportation and accommodation costs) of studying in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The finding also revealed that CPI food has negative influence on Business education students’ ability to incur indirect cost (feeding cost) of studying in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The findings also revealed that none of the influences were significant. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that Business education students’ association in tertiary institutions in Rivers State should collaborate with their respective Students’ Union Government to request the three tiers of governments to provide respective students with not less than N6,000 lunch allowance as part of their palliatives for subsidy removal till the inflation abate.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114615793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
