This study therefore examined cognitive disposition, self-determination, and attitude to keyboarding as determinants of students’ achievement in word processing in colleges of education in South-West, Nigeria.This study adopted a descriptive survey research design type. A sample of 1,346 students was selected through stratified random sampling technique from a population of 6,035 college of education students in South-West, Nigeria. Five research instruments were used for data collection. They are: Demographic Data Inventory, Cognitive Disposition Inventory (=0.89), Self-Determination Scale (=0.86), Attitude to Keyboarding Scale (=0.76) and Word Processing Achievement Test (=0.89). The null hypotheses were tested using Multiple Regression Analysis at 0.05 level of significance.The finding revealed that cognitive disposition, self-determination, and attitude to keyboarding significantly predict students’ academic achievement in Word Processing (F(3, 1342) = 31.807, p <.05). In the same vein, cognitive disposition (= .317, t=21.605, p < .05), self-determination (=.226, t=12.449, p < .05), and attitude to keyboarding (=.208, t=10.194, p < .05) have relative contributions to the prediction of academic achievement in Word Processing among the students.It was therefore recommended, among others, that Business Education Lecturers in Colleges of Education should identify those strong cognitive disposition patterns in their classes and utilize fitting approaches to accommodate individual cognitive disposition preferences in their pedagogy. Educators should continually promote self-determination via both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation by helping learners to focus not only on the extrinsic rewards they gain after they accomplish tasks but to also inculcate the intrinsic value in their learning of Word Processing.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120957463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need for the study came as a result of increasing rate of divorce among married teachers in the study area to which the researchers sought to find solutions. It was guided by two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design of the study was quasi-experimental non-randomized control group, pretest-posttest design. The population of the study consisted of all 24 divorcees in public secondary schools in the study area identify by school counsellors. The entire population of 24 divorcees were used as sample. In this case, there was no sample. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire titled “Emotional Adjustment Divorcees Questionnaire (EADQ)” developed by the researchers and validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The internal consistency reliability of the instrument was obtained using cronbach alpha statistics which yielded the estimate of 0.84 for EADQ. This instrument was used to collect data from subjects as pretest before treatment programme which lasted for six weeks and were reshuffled by changing the serial numbers of the items and re-administered on the subjects on posttest after treatment. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to test the null hypotheses. The result of the study indicated that cognitive restructuring intervention had significant effect on emotional adjustment of divorcees. There was no significant difference in the mean rating on emotional adjustment of divorcees as moderated by gender. In the other words, male and female divorces exposed to treatment benefitted equally on the emotional adjustment. Based on the findings; it was recommended among others that guidance counsellors should employ cognitive restructuring intervention to help divorcees on emotional adjustment.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124647800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, thousands of the secondary school students in Nigeria attend shadow education , because they believed that shadow education is the only way to improve their academic performance and to support their mainstream education and similarly, their parents have optimistic on shadow education, because they always eager finding nearness centres or employ tutors for their children within their apartments. Therefore, we have two types of shadow education formal and informal. Informal which takes place at home, while formal takes place within the school premises. Thus, students are lured to attend shadow education upon the level of socio- economic background of their parents neither upper class, middle class or lower class even a situation hardship economy of the country is not really barriers for them to attend shadow education because they believed that there is more advantageous in which they can benefits from shadow education rather than mainstream education.Yet, shadow education creates room for proper interaction between the teachers and students and make it easily for the students to express their views freely without fear or panic. Similarly, it also allow the tutors to have additional incomes apart from main salary from the mainstream education, However, shadow education has different names in Nigeria such as prep, lesson, continuous education and coaching . Therefore, many parents like to send their children to standard formal education while informal education the tutors employ to teach their children at their apartments.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115609985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates students’ learning styles by the Learning Styles Questionnaire (LSQ) as it conveys the opportunity to build resiliency among students. The nature of resiliency has also been explored using multiple measurements. The paper’s investigation includes a short scale of measuring resiliency used by post-compulsory researchers. Students learning styles were examined in terms of ethnicity and gender and their relationship with course types and resilience. A research study in London asked thirty students (15 males and 15 females) to complete the LSQ and measurement of resilience items. The results showed that students’ learning style was not related to ethnicity, gender, qualification type, or resilience. These findings support some research. The research implies that triangulation of measurements is necessary with a larger number of participants across types of courses and locations. Furthermore, students’ resilience needs to be defined in terms of wellbeing, gender, and ethnicity across the U.K.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124228126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a socio-cultural and economic barrier to many foster children in the Tamale Metropolis. The paper investigates the educational attainments of foster children, consequences, and challenges that are associated with the practice in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region of Ghana. A cross-sectional design was used as well as probability and non-probability sampling techniques. Qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection were also used. In addition, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were used for the primary data while the secondary data were sourced from the internet, publish articles, and relevant textbooks. The results showed that foster children were enrolled in school against few who were not enrolled and also there were regular school attendances by foster children in the metropolis. Absenteeism was low therefore most foster children even though punctual to school many were always late to school. They were good in terms of class attendance but were not performing well in class as compared with non-foster children and the reasons were that they were overburdened with household chores, inadequate educational learning materials at home late payment of fees, discrimination against them in terms of wich child should be sent to school, abuse and also inadequate freedom to recreate and also socialize with their peers at home.Should this practice therefore be stop in the metropolis? Fostering remains inimical to educational attainments of children in terms of their performance in school in the Tamale Metropolis despite signs of good school enrollment and attendance, there is the need for effective policy implementation and sensitization against the engagement of foster children in many household chores that significantly affects their studies both in schools and at home.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121347024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students are the young generation who are required to communicate with polite language and tone. A number of strategies have been implemented at schools to internalize politeness values in students' daily life. However, limited studies have been conducted regarding politeness value integration through language teaching. This study studied the politeness value integration at a senior high school in Indonesia. This study use a qualitative approach in the data was gathered through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and written materials analysis. This study found that Arabic language teaching can be used to integrate politeness values through the use of Islamic teaching material. The school also provides support in creating social attitudes, especially politeness values n the school environment. This has been manifested in various Islamic teaching materials which both teachers and students used and discussed during Arabic teaching and learning. However, the school programs, especially the value of politeness internalization, have not yet been maximized and implemented because this study found the absence of planning (syllabus and lesson plans) for politeness values made by Arabic language teachers. It seems yet to become a priority activity.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132788646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three hundred and fifteen (315) participants were surveyed using questionnaires and six (6) expert interviews. Descriptive variables were examined using cross-tabulation, univariate, and bivariate statistical methods. The logistic regression model and Pearson's chi-square test were used to examine the relationship between the dependent variable (engineering student performance) and the predictive variables respectively. The study's findings revealed that several factors influence students’ performance in engineering mathematics, including age, terrible strain, and level of interest. It was revealed by an expert’s interview that students from senior high school like engineering mathematics whiles those from technical senior high school do not like engineering mathematics because of their poor background in mathematics. To reinvigorate students’ performance in this course area, pre-calculus classes for older students should be arranged to assist them to refresh their memory, according to the study, students should be encouraged to devote a significant amount of time to engineering mathematics coupled with tutorials.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127398097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
