In order to carry out this study objectively, four specific objectives, three research questions and four research hypotheses were postulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 2,585 teachers in all the 121 government approved private secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District. Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting a sample of 346 teachers. A questionnaire with 28 structured items designed by the researchers was used for data collection for this study. Cronbach’s Alpha Technique was used in determining the reliability of the instrument and a correlation coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. Means with standard deviation was used in answering the research questions. The t-test statistics was used in testing the null hypotheses 1,2 and 4 while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used in testing hypotheses 3 respectively at .05 level significance. The findings of the study reveal that there is no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female teachers on the extent to which job security, compensation, organizational policy and job prospect influences labour turnover in private secondary schools in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District. Based on the findings, it is concluded that provisions of teachers’ job satisfaction indicators in private secondary schools would positively increase teachers’ satisfaction, reduce labour turnover, increase students and teachers’ performance, increase students’ population, promote the image of the school, increase profitability earning capacity and competitive ability. The need for the study came as a result of increasing rate of poor academic achievement motivation of secondary school students in the study area to which the researchers sought to find solutions. It was guided by two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research design used for the study was correlation survey design. The population of the study comprised the entire five hundred and thirty secondary schools identify from cumulative record folder of SS II students who have performed poor and show lack of interest in schooling in the study area. The entire population of 530 students were used as sample. In this case, there was no sample. This is because the number can be managed. The instrument for data collection were two sets of questionnaire titled “Counsellors’ Attitudinal Skills Assessment (CASA)”; and “Academic Achievement Motivation Scale (AAMS)”. CASA and AAMS were properly validated by experts in test development and the internal consistency reliability indices of the items estimated at 0.82 and 0.84 respectively using cronbach alpha method. The data collected were analyzed using coefficient of determination (R2) for research questions, while Linear Regression was used in testing the hypotheses at p<0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between listening skill of counsellors and academic achievement motivation of secondary school students. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that counsellors should organize seminars on counsellors’ attitudinal skills on academic achievement motivation to help motivate secondary school students in schooling.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"124 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139786173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Embedded in the Complex Dynamic Systems Theory (CDST) paradigm, it aims to untangle existing ambiguities and explore implications for Greek society and education. Employing a Concurrent Mixed Methods Approach, the study attempts to unveil the intricate impacts of ESLA on First Language Development (FLD).Grounded in CDST's framework emphasizing linguistic system complexity, and interconnectedness, the research design employs a Descriptive Exploratory orientation through a Case Study Methodology. This facilitates comprehensive research into two cohorts of children aged four, representing monolingual Greek kindergartens (Cohort A) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL)-focused kindergartens (Cohort B).The research inquiries delve into multifaceted language development aspects amidst intricate linguistic dynamics. This involves nuanced analysis of potential performance disparities in the primary language pre- and post-interventions in early foreign language pedagogy, meticulous comparative assessment of both cohorts, and insightful exploration of EFL's implications on young children's nascent language development.Methodologically, data collection employs a language development assessment tool (Logometro®). The collection of both quantitative and qualitative data in this study is contingent upon the application of the Logometro® language assessment instrument. Thematic Analysis shapes the qualitative corpus, complemented by statistical analyses for quantitative data.Anticipated outcomes aim to enhance understanding among Greek educational authorities and the scientific community about intricate, adaptive ESLA impacts on FLD. Findings could influence enduring, impactful EFL policies shaped by Greek authorities. Overall, the research deepens comprehension of latent consequences tied to ESLA's effects on FLD, set within Greece’s intricate context. Nested within CDST's theoretical framework, the amalgamation of research methodology and insights provides a robust foundation for future inquiries and invaluable guidance for policymakers navigating English language education decisions among young learners.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":"112 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139786440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While initial reports by Johnson et al. (2021) suggested significant negative effects, subsequent research has indicated a nuanced perspective, with a diminishing impact over time. This study investigates evolving teacher roles during the pandemic in Guyana's schools and their influence on student performance in the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) Examinations held annually in May/June. A comprehensive literature review contextualizes the study by highlighting pandemic-induced changes in the learning process and associated factors. This research integrates qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis by employing an exploratory sequential mixed-method approach (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2018). Initial findings underscore a pedagogical shift among teachers due to the pandemic. Outcomes vary based on available resources, particularly in the context of Guyana's schools. Notably, this research holds value for the Ministry of Education in formulating teacher and student development strategies, addressing competence and professionalism. Moreover, implications extend to the Cyril Potter College of Education, allowing the design of programs enhancing prospective teachers' preparedness for the evolving educational landscape.","PeriodicalId":189190,"journal":{"name":"international journal of Education, Learning and Development","volume":" 44","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139622286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
