By conducting semantic analysis, it was found out that positive and negative connotations, denotative and connotative meanings have a certain persuasive effect on the audience. Materials consist of 250 fashion advertisements in English and 250 in Italian derived from Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan online magazines issued September 2022-January 2023. The work relies on descriptive method to investigate the function of stylistic devices as manipulative means; the quantitative method to draw a parallel between the English and Italian and the comparative method to compare the results in English and Italian. The main conclusion of this research is that studied stylistic devices, positive and negative connotations, denotative and connotative meanings can be considered as techniques of verbal manipulation. The classification and functions of stylistic and semantic techniques in the process of verbal manipulation are presented as the final outcome of this research.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"81 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main focus of the analysis consists of some of the short stories contained in one of Joyces most famous works, Dubliners, with particular reference to Evelyne and at the same time examining some of the themes present and recurring in the Irish writers books. This work aims to demonstrate how in Joyce there is a strong interest in the realisation and psychological analysis of his complex characters present in the work as well as in Evelyne and who will be examined as expressions and fulfilments of his creativity. The study was conducted through the discipline of the Psychology of Art and Literature. Some of the themes and characteristics of the characters in the stories will be presented, in which the individual, with his inner conflicts, emotions, feelings and sensations will come to the fore, with particular attention to the central theme of the work, namely paralysis in which he sees the city and its inhabitants immersed. Paralysis and escape are the central elements of Dubliners. One will understand how the city and the characters are seen by Joyce as the centre of the historical, social and psychological paralysis that conditions the lives of its inhabitants and does not allow them to grow as human beings.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine the changes in children's ability to perceive and explore landscapes in a historical context. The main findings are obtained using studies of artwork content and literature systemic analysis. This research has indicated the most important sociocultural factors, such as social reforms, the establishment of compulsory education, and changes in the attitudes of parents that influenced children's perception of the landscape in different historical periods, and how, considering these aspects, children's relationship with the natural environment has changed. Today, children spend more and more time indoors and in virtual environments, and due to that their relationship with the natural environment is getting weaker compared to historical times. The results of this study underline that children have little options to engage with natural settings in today's cities, which are not safe enough. As a result, children go to virtual spaces that provide opportunities to have the experiences they want. This research has also highlighted the importance of understanding what places and environments were important to children when they were still able to experience them independently and applying this knowledge to create a city suitable for children to grow up in.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"206 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These interviews were collected between 2019 and 2020 and subsequently grouped into three main categories, related to poetry, prose and essays. The resulting material was published in a volume entitled Cartea cu delfini (The book with dolphins) in 2021. Ana Blandianas interviews take the form of an autobiography, which enables the poet to share her memories and thoughts on the world we live in. These dialogues of literary interest are of the utmost importance as they reveal the poets personality and disclose her emotions and views related to a writing career of more than 60 years. The theoretical and methodological perspectives included in this research are related to the literary interview, which uses the techniques of storytelling and reveals insights into the interlocutors life, work and experiences. In addition, the research also reviews the theories of the literary discourse, with a strong focus on the linguistic beauty and poetic language of Ana Blandiana. The novelty of this study lies in investigating the particularities of her literary interviews.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"259 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139318930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lets examine the ideas of Plato, Saint Augustine of Hippo, Saint Anselm, Thomas Aquinas, Rene Descartes, and Lucian Blaga on this topic. Platos philosophy centered around the idea of forms or ideal concepts. While he did not explicitly argue for the existence of a monotheistic God, he believed in a transcendent realm of perfect forms that served as the ultimate source of reality. According to Plato, through philosophical contemplation and reason, one could gain knowledge of these forms, including the form of the good, which could be equated with a divine or godlike entity. Saint Augustine of Hippo sought to reconcile faith and reason and believed that rational inquiry could lead to knowledge of Gods existence. He argued that Gods existence could be known through introspection and reflection on ones own existence. Augustine believed that Gods existence is self-evident and that every thought we have depends on the existence of a supreme, unchanging and eternal being. Saint Anselm proposed the ontological argument for the existence of God. He argued that we can conceive of a being greater than which nothing can be conceived. According to Anselm, if such a being exists in the understanding alone, it could also exist in reality, which is even greater. Therefore, God must exist in reality. Anselms argument relies on the idea that the concept of God contains the concept of necessary existence. Thomas Aquinas developed the cosmological argument, which asserts that everything in the universe has a cause, and ultimately there must be an uncaused cause (God) that initiates the chain of causes. Aquinas believed that reason could lead us to knowledge of Gods existence through observation of the natural world and logical deduction. He believed that Gods existence is self-evident and can be understood through natural theology. Rene Descartes known for his phrase I think, therefore I am, sought to establish a foundation of knowledge through rational inquiry. While his philosophical project primarily focused on skepticism and the existence of the self, Descartes also argued for the existence of God. He posited that the idea of God, as a perfect and infinite being, could not have originated from himself, a finite and imperfect being. Therefore, he concluded that the idea of God must have been implanted by a higher power, namely God himself. Lucian Blaga, a Romanian philosopher, addressed the problem of Gods existence from a phenomenological perspective. He argued that Gods existence is not a factual truth that can be proven or disproven by rational thought alone. Instead, Blaga emphasized the importance of subjective experience and existential intuition in recognizing the presence of God. For Blaga, the experience of the sacred and the encounter with the numinous in human existence provides a profound sense of m","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Job interviews simulations have been successfully used for the past few years as an end-course examination of our ESP students. One of the main objectives of this activity is to enhance their professional communication skills, which encompasses a complex skill set, focussing on increasing their self-confidence and self-esteem at the same time. In addition to improving grammar, this activity aligns with the learning objectives and leads to building career-related vocabulary. The present paper, which is part of a broader project aimed at investigating the language of job interviews from various perspectives, focuses on exploring the lexical features of professional communication in such instances. Like any other specialized language, the language of job interviews is a living organism, which incorporates new words denoting new realities or new meanings acquired by existing words. A closer examination of the lexical features of professional communication, will equip ESP students with the lexical competence they need in order to face the demands of a fast-changing work environment.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139318897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike other disciplines related to the visual arts, the fact that the discipline of interior architecture has not developed a separate and distinct intellectual whole with its own rules has affected the place of criticism in both the profession and education. Therefore, in order to be a step towards the elimination of these deficiencies, different approaches that could be a source for the development of interior architecture criticism have been studied. These approaches have been re-evaluated, taking into account the requirements of interior design itself, and an exemplary model of interior architecture criticism has been created. Criticism in interior architecture education, which is another important issue addressed by the study, has an important potential to train qualified designers who examine the basic dynamics of the profession and have a critical perspective. Therefore, the existence of a critique course, which can analyze design studies in a contextual framework, is not seen as a common educational necessity. In this context, a proposal for a critique course consisting of 4 modules has been prepared for the 4th year of undergraduate interior architecture education, using this model critique. Due to the course proposal developed, it is expected that the students will have a better command of the design process as a result of examining the meaning and requirements of interior spaces with different methods. Through the applications made in the course, it is intended to provide students with the ability to consider space from all aspects. As a result, it aims to contribute to the formation and development of the critical culture necessary to define the boundaries of the discipline, the development of the profession and the field of application.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"182 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mass media form a culture of relationships, influence behavior and intelligence of any society. They also shape public opinion by manipulating consciousness of the audience with a whole arsenal of linguistic means, one of which is verbal aggression. The paper considers the reasons for the appearance of this phenomenon in the language media, its interpretations, and forms of expression, including the method, intensity, purposefulness. The use of the discredit strategy is analyzed, which is formed explicitly or implicitly, starting with title and subheading by different language means. We identified communication tactics within the strategy of discredit represented by tactics of direct and indirect accusation, opposition, solidarity, rejection action and others. Most attention is paid to a header complex and its function in realization of discredit strategy.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139318995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By addressing this research gap, the study seeks to answer the question of how gender influences the use of manipulative strategies in advertising. To investigate this question, the study employs a comparative research design, complemented by a qualitative analysis of the findings. The research material includes business speeches, presentations, interviews, and articles featuring narratives produced by female respondents working in Canadian and British advertising agencies. The findings suggest that women use emotional and persuasive language to appeal to clients and create a positive attitude towards advertised products. Study results outline specific linguistic differences between Canadian and British female advertising professionals in terms of their use of manipulative language strategies.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
