The study is a relevant topic, since the concept of business media discourse as a separate type of discourse has not yet been singled out. The material of the study comprised the public speeches of businessmen, commercial staff and economists for the period of 2021-2023. The authors resort to the method of functional discourse analysis, which substantiates the selection of speech means by a communicative purpose. At the same time, it is assumed that the goals can be main / secondary, open / hidden. The dynamics of the study of speech influence means in linguistics is described. As a result of the study, it was possible to identify speech tactics to enhance the manipulative impact and tactics to counteract speech manipulation: distracting questions; unwillingness to answer questions; pause before answering; question to question; refusal to explain; indignation over a minor issue; sudden change in behavior. The author comes to the conclusion that the study of the functional and pragmatic properties of business speech and the peculiarities of its implementation in media conditions can enrich the communicative competence of specialists.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then he became one of the most specific and original artists of his generation. The present essay deals with his very successful collection of poetry called The Diary of Mr. Pinke (1991, English translation published in 2022). Between the world wars, the most Eastern part of Czechoslovakia was so-called Subcarpathian Ruthenia (or Karpatenukraine in German). This rural and somewhat secluded region neighbouring Austrian Galicia (or Galizien in German) in the very West of Ukraine and the South- East of Poland used to be a centre of Jewish culture using mainly Yiddish and inspired by local folklore. The poems of Ewald Murrer are deeply rooted in the imagery of Jewish and Rusyn fairy tales and folk songs. While Marc Chagall, the famous French painter (coming from todays Byelorussia), discovered these old sources of Jewish art for European Modernism, Ewald Murrer uses the same sources but his approach to literary creation can be seen as much more post-modern: he uses but at the same time also re-evaluates old myths and archetypes of this region with both a lovely kind of humour and more serious visions of Kafkaesque absurdity that are probably unavoidable in Central Europe. The fictional and highly poetic diary of Mr. Pinke is highly significant as a sophisticated revival of the almost forgotten culture of a Central European region that almost definitely stopped existing after the tragic times of the Holocaust and Stalinism.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is considered of vital importance to conduct (1) semiotic analysis to find out the amount of monosemiotic and polysemiotic slogans, with denotative or/and connotative meanings; (2) pragmatic analysis to identify illocutionary acts, according to which the slogans can be classified as promising, having emotional and evaluative influences, informing and stimulating; (3) the analysis of cultural and national specifics, that reveal the expression of Confucian values in advertising slogans, selfidentity, references to history, national symbols. According to the carried research, the analysed slogans are defined as mostly polysemiotic, the information in which is expressed connotatively, through images, comparisons, metaphors and reference to the cultural specifics of the nation. The Chinese advertisements on Covid 19 Vaccination use a variety of different types of illocutionary acts to persuade recipients: the largest share occupy slogans promising the recipients life, health, a better future, etc. In addition, Chinese advertising slogans are characteristic of strong appeal to cultural, historical and national identity and properties.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Igor Hajek (19311995), a Czech literary critic, who went to exile in 1969, played a significant role in presenting Czech literature abroad. Kvetoslav Chvatik (19302012) was a Czech philosopher, aesthetician, art historian, and literary theorist. Hajek taught at universities in the English-speaking world, while Chvatik worked in a German-speaking environment. Two periods are covered and compared in the paper: the first period, the period of pluralistic democracy and the resulting cultural structure when the literary criticism contributed to the fact that Czech literature reached the European level, and the period after February 1948 when the ruling ideology started to interfere in the development of literature. Two completely contradictory conceptions are described showing the radical changes that took place in literary criticism after 1948. The text looks at the role of literary criticism in an era when plurality of opinion is possible, and at the impact of the suppression of freedom of speech on the work of literary critics. It also shows how the process of the shift of literary criticism towards its true function in the spirit of democratising tendencies had gradually won its way.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability of children to read and listen with understanding in several languages is reflected in a positive sense in the development of their personality and language characteristics. In our research, we monitored the enlargement of a vocabulary range in different languages, the use of symbolic elements of speech compared to their age, and the use of other language devices on a research sample of six children. We also focused on whether a bilingual environment helps to develop overall communication competence and how this is reflected in the formation of personality traits and characteristics. The purpose of the research was also to determine the success of the storytelling method and the selection of images depending on the cultural background and age of the children. The results were significantly influenced by the cultural knowledge of images in one language and the possibility to use creativity when not recognizing them.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employing a mixed-methods approach and conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses, the research investigates the frequency and patterns of emoji use in conflict and non-conflict threads, as well as their impact on conversation tone and outcomes. Findings reveal that positive emotion emojis, gesture emojis, and sarcasm/humor/irony emojis are most commonly used to manage challenging interactions and prevent misunderstandings. The study demonstrates that emoji use is more frequent in conflict threads compared to non-conflict threads, indicating the vital role emojis play in managing difficult interactions. Moreover, the results show that the use of emojis is associated with a higher likelihood of de-escalation, clarification of misunderstandings, and better conversation outcomes. In addition to supporting existing theoretical frameworks, such as Social Information Processing Theory and Media Richness Theory, the study provides practical insights into effective communication strategies and the design of digital spaces that facilitate healthier interpersonal communication. The findings have implications for online communication, suggesting that the strategic use of emojis can help humanize interactions, promote empathy, mitigate speech aggression and ultimately lead to mutual understanding and conflict resolution.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"204 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although Slovak is recognized as the official language, there are many other languages spoken in the country. Due to historical reasons, the largest minority communities are Hungarian, Roma, Czech and Rusyn, but the number of bilingual and multilingual speakers varies according to the region, with the highest concentration in Western and Eastern Slovakia. In contemporary Slovakia, bilingualism and multilingualism also results from international migration, globalization or mixed marriages. In this environment children are often exposed to more than one language and experiencing or acquiring another language(s) becomes natural part of their socialization. This paper provides an overview of the linguistic situation and sociolinguistic context of bilingualism and multilingualism as a common phenomenon in the territory of Slovakia and presents the most recent studies in bilingual and multilingual competence in children. Our research focuses mainly on the questions of language differentiation, code-switching, code-mixing, and natural interpreting skills. A few examples of short dialogues are provided to illustrate the features of bilingual communication. The findings are based on the error analysis of spontaneous and elicited production of language and the outcomes of experimental tests carried out in form of a number of individual case studies of children in Slovakia.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And yet, all of these three novels operate, in various degrees, with what seems to have always been a common life principle for many, regardless of the temporal or geographic co(n)text at hand. Dickens Hard Times portrays characters who prioritize facts, figures, and material gain over the emotional and moral aspects of life. The utilitarian approach of valuing measurable outcomes and productivity above all else is presented as dehumanizing and detrimental to individuals and society. Although it does not directly pursue a utilitarian philosophy, The Prime of Miss Brodie does shed light on the complexities of personal influence and the potential consequences of actions: as a character, Miss Brodie raises questions about the ethical implications of pursuing personal ambitions at the expense of others and the limitations of an individualistic approach to achieving happiness and fulfilment. And true as it may be that Muriel Sparks novel does not directly address utilitarianism as a philosophical concept, it is possible to analyse Miss Brodie, her actions, her beliefs as well as her impact on her students from a utilitarian perspective since the latter emphasizes the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people. Finally, Ishiguros speculative Never Let Me Go presents a dystopian society where clones are created for the sole purpose of providing organ donations to others thus raising further questions about the ethics of sacrificing a few for the well-being of many, as well as the nature of humanity and the value of individual lives. Every single one of these three novels explores utilitarian philosophies of life by looking into the aftermath entailed by the prioritizing of individuals happiness and pleasure (on a small scale), or of societal well-being (on a large scale). Therein, readers are challenged to reflect upon the complexities and ethical dilemmas inherent in pursuing the greatest good for the greatest number. The end justifies the means can be seen operating in various degrees and in different ways in all three texts, reflecting back the unique contexts and themes of their respective stories. Seen like this, these novels become lenses mediating ethical dilemmas, obliquely criticising societal norms or raising awareness to the consequences of sacrificing individual rights and moral considerations for the sake of societal or personal goals.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"81 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the effective implementation of circular design requires a comprehensive understanding of its complex dynamics and interactions within a broader systems context. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for circular design underpinned by systemic design principles. This framework aims to guide designers and stakeholders in creating holistic and regenerative solutions by integrating principles from systems thinking, design thinking, and sustainability. The framework emphasizes the importance of considering the entire lifecycle of a product or service, from material sourcing to reuse, repairing, re-manufacturing and recycling, while also accounting for the socioeconomic and environmental dimensions. It encourages the adoption of strategies such as changing value chains, shared ownership, product attachment and trust and material recovery to maximize resource sufficiency and minimize waste generation. Furthermore, the framework highlights the significance of collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including designers, manufacturers, consumers, and policymakers, to foster systemic change. It provides a structured approach to identify leverage points, assess trade-offs, and inform decision-making processes throughout the design journey. The application of this framework has the potential to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy by facilitating the creation of innovative and sustainable solutions. Future research should focus on empirically testing and refining this framework to enhance its practicality and effectiveness in real-world contexts.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While most scholars have approached the concept and employed the term within the GILT paradigm [2] [3] [10], we believe this new perspective of localisation does not conflict with or diminish its current status. On the contrary, a potential semantic broadening may even help to distinguish it from other terms such as adaptation or translation [2] [8]. Thus, we view localisation as a practical stage in the process of translation with Nords [7] tripartite model applied to musicology texts, whereby the translation of musicology texts is seen as a complex process that begins with the translation brief (cf. [5] [6]) and ends with the production of (potentially multiple) target texts that fit both a locale and a skopos [11] [12]. By analogy with Mazurs [2] view, localisation may be performed not only at the level of cultural norms and conventions, but also at the linguistic and even the technical levels. If the translator disregards this stage, the resulting target text will very likely not fulfil its purpose [11] [12], which is why we view it as an obligatory step in the process of translating musicology texts.","PeriodicalId":187162,"journal":{"name":"SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH","volume":"76 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139319039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
